  • Development trend and current status were surveyed for pre-heat-treated high strength cold heading quality (CHQ) wire and it's forming technology. Spheroidizing, quenching, and tempering heat treatments are eliminated by adapting the pre-treated wire, which could reduce energy consumption rate and green house gas emission rate during produce parts requiring high strength. There are some challenging problems to expand application area such as enhancing forming tool life, and preventing delayed failure. Domestic research movement concerning the development and application of the new high strength wire was introduced.

  • A multi-step warm forging process for subminiature screws is investigated. Due to the low formability of Titanium alloys, bit forming of Titanium screws is difficult by cold forging. In order to overcome this low formability of Titanium alloys, two candidate processes, i.e., multi-step forging and warm forging are introduced. First, a multi-step (two-step) forging process is investigated. The punch shape and stroke of forging during the first step is designed via various analyses. Finally, the bit formability is investigated at different forging temperatures. Analyses are carried out for two-step forging at various temperatures and the formability under these thermal conditions is compared.

  • This study examined the cause of the wrinkle defect which is frequently encountered in wire rod rolling of low carbon steel$(C0.08\~0.13wt.\%)$. Even a small defect on the surface of rolled bars can easily develop into fatal cracks during cold heading process of low carbon steel, and it is therefore necessary to minimize inherent defects on the surface of hot rolled bars. Hot rolling process of low carbon steel was analyzed to identify the cause of the wrinkle defect in conjunction with FE analysis. The integrated analysis revealed that the wrinkle defect initiated in the first stage of rolling, and it was at the billet edge where severe deformation and drastic temperature drop were present. To elucidate the micro-mechanical mechanism of the wrinkle defect, hot compression tests were carried out at various temperatures and strain rates using Gleeble-3800. The surface profile of the each other compressed specimens was compared, and rough surface lines were observed at relatively low temperatures. Those surface defects can develop into wrinkles during multi-pass rolling. To control the wrinkle defect in rolling, it is necessary to design an adequate caliber which can minimize the loss of ductility, and thereby prevent flow localization. To use the result of this study fur other steels, the quantitative measure of the wrinkle defect and flow localization parameter should be proposed.

  • To abtain basic information in process developing cold tolerance rice variety, used 8 varieties which are the close crossing and the remote crossing in order to clarify how is being the differences of low temperature injury in same variety and the varietal difference at each growth stage under the low temperature treatment, 18$^{\circ}C$-12$^{\circ}C$ (day-night), and to establish the effective testing method for low temperature injury in rice plant. In this experiment, the varietal ifferences of low temperature injury were significant in rice plant, and found out that low temperature injury at the each growth stage from sowing to heading in same variety was not horizontal.
