  • Smart Dynamic Pricing has been introduced to address the under-utilised network resources problem in mobile telecommunications systems. In this paper, we investigate the applicability of Smart Dynamic Pricing and its signalling models into Cognitive Radio Systems. Cognitive Radio System is defined as one in which cognitive radios are employed to access shared spectrum and/or dynamically allocated spectrum. Network elements, protocols, traffic and control channels, and system architecture are proposed for the implementation of Smart Dynamic Pricing in Cognitive Radio System. It is found that Smart Dynamic Pricing and its signalling models can be applied to Cognitive Radio Systems.

  • In this paper, we propose a solution on interference problem of MB-OFDM UWB system using cognitive radio. We use interference temperature model of cognitive radio that has proposed by FCC for estimating interference signal. Calculating channel capacity of MB-OFDM UWB system with interference temperature, we suggest how to solve interference problem. We have used genetic algorithm in cognitive engine's calculation process. The proposed MB-OFDM UWB System with cognitive radio shows very efficient in solving interference problem.

  • In this paper, we address the OFDM based on DFT or DCT in Cognitive Radio system. An adaptive OFDM based on DFT or DCT in Cognitive Radio system has the capacity to nullify individual carriers to avoid interference to the licensed users. Therefore, there could be a considerably large number of zero-valued inputs/outputs for the IDFT/DFT or IDCT/DCT on the OFDM transceiver. Hence, the standard methods of DFT and DCT are no longer efficient due to the wasted operations on zero. Based on this observation, we present a transform decomposition on two dimensional(2-D) systolic array for IDFT/DFT and IDCT/DCT, this algorithm can achieve an efficient computation for OFDM in Cognitive Radio system

  • This paper presents a comprehensive survey of various artificial intelligence (AI) techniques implemented in cognitive radio engine to improve cognition capability in cognitive radio networks (CRNs). AI enables systems to solve problems by emulating human biological processes such as learning, reasoning, decision making, self-adaptation, self-organization, and self-stability. The use of AI techniques is studied in applications related to the major tasks of cognitive radio including spectrum sensing, spectrum sharing, spectrum mobility, and decision making regarding dynamic spectrum access, resource allocation, parameter adaptation, and optimization problem. The aim is to provide a single source as a survey paper to help researchers better understand the various implementations of AI approaches to different cognitive radio designs, as well as to refer interested readers to the recent AI research works done in CRNs.

  • This paper considers a wideband cognitive radio network which can simultaneously sense multiple narrowband channels and thus aggregate the detected available channels for transmission and proposes a novel cognitive radio system that exhibits improved sensing throughput and can save power consumption of secondary user (SU) compared to the conventional cognitive radio system studied so far. More specifically, under the proposed cognitive radio system, we study the problem of designing the optimal sensing time and power allocation strategy, in order to maximize the ergodic throughput of the proposed cognitive radio system under two different schemes, namely the wideband sensing-based spectrum sharing scheme and the wideband opportunistic spectrum access scheme. In our analysis, besides the average interference power constraint at primary user, the average transmit power constraint of SU is also considered for the two schemes and then a subgradient algorithm is developed to obtain the optimal sensing time and the corresponding power allocation strategy. Finally, numerical simulations are presented to verify the performance of the two proposed schemes.

  • In this paper, we propose a TH-Multiband-UWB system through pulse shaping to fit in domestic UWB spectrum regulation. We propose the transmission pulse of Multi-Carrier type for pulse shaping and use Cognitive Radio to detect interfering frequency. We use Genetic Algorithm in Cognitive Radio's calculation propose and propose solution of interference problem between TH-UWB using Cognitive Radio and typical MB-OFDM UWB system or other communication systems. In this paper, we explain how Cognitive Engine detects the interfering frequency. The technique of TH-Multiband-UWB system using Cognitive Radio shows a good performance in interference condition.

  • Analytic modeling and computational simulation for the protection of DTV from cognitive radio interference are performed. Protection is achieved by using the protection ratio, which is derived through system modeling and its analysis. On the frequency coordination between digital TV and cognitive radio, an analysis in a co-channel environment, in a rural area in Korea, is performed.

  • In recent literature on traffic scheduling, the combination of the two-dimensional discrete-time Markov chain (DTMC) and the Markov modulated Poisson process (MMPP) is used to analyze the capacity of VoIP traffic in the cognitive radio system. The performance of the cognitive radio system solely depends on the accuracy of spectrum sensing techniques, the minimization of false alarms, and the scheduling of traffic channels. In this paper, we only emphasize the scheduling of traffic channels (i.e., traffic handling techniques for the primary user [PU] and the secondary user [SU]). We consider the following three different traffic models: the cross-layer analytical model, M/G/1(m) traffic, and the IEEE 802.16e/m scheduling approach to evaluate the performance of the VoIP services of the cognitive radio system from the context of blocking probability and throughput.

  • This paper proposes a novel scheme for cooperative spectrum sensing on distributed cognitive radio networks. A fuzzy logic rule - based inference system is proposed to estimate the presence possibility of the licensed user's signal based on the observed energy at each cognitive radio terminal. The estimated results are aggregated to make the final sensing decision at the fusion center. Simulation results show that significant improvement of the spectrum sensing accuracy is achieved by our schemes.
