Purpose: The aim of this study was to identify factors affecting the perception of sex life and sexual desire coping behavior among the spouseless elderly. Methods: The participants were 149 elders who resided in six administrative regions of B city. Data were collected from December 1, 2012 to March 3, 2013 using a questionnaire. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Scheff$\acute{e}$ test, Pearson's correlation coefficient, and Stepwise multiple regression in a PASW 18.0 program. Results: Stepwise multiple regression analysis of data indicated that the most likely predictor is gender. Gender, sexual relation, subjective health status and parent-child relationship explained 34% of the variance of perception of sex life. Gender, dating status and age explained 44% of the variance of sexual desire coping behavior. Conclusion: Based on the study findings, gender and current dating status should be considered to conduct comprehensive sex health care education for healthy sex life of the elderly with no spouse.
Stability analysis and support system estimation of the Beheshtabad water transmission tunnel is investigated in this research. A combination approach based on the rock mass rating (RMR) and rock mass quality index (Q) is used for this purpose. In the first step, 40 datasets related to the petrological, structural, hydrological, physical, and mechanical properties of tunnel host rocks are measured in the field and laboratory. Then, RMR, Q, and height of influenced zone above the tunnel roof are computed and sorted into five general groups to analyze the tunnel stability and determine its support system. Accordingly, tunnel stand-up time, rock load, and required support system are estimated for five sorted rock groups. In addition, various empirical relations between RMR and Q i.e., linear, exponential, logarithmic, and power functions are developed using the analysis of variance (ANOVA). Based on the significance level (sig.), determination coefficient (R2) and Fisher-test (F) indices, power and logarithmic equations are proposed as the optimum relations between RMR and Q. To validate the proposed relations, their results are compared with the results of previous similar equations by using the variance account for (VAF), root mean square error (RMSE), mean absolute percentage error (MAPE) and mean absolute error (MAE) indices. Comparison results showed that the accuracy of proposed RMR-Q relations is better than the previous similar relations and their outputs are more consistent with actual data. Therefore, they can be practically utilized in designing the tunneling projects with an acceptable level of accuracy and reliability.
Purpose: This study aimed to explore the factors influencing attitudes toward withdrawal of life-sustaining treatment (WLST) in adolescents. Methods: This study used a descriptive research design. A structured questionnaire was administered to 185 adolescents. Data were analyzed based on t-tests, analysis of variance, Pearson's correlation coefficient, and multiple regression using the IBM SPSS 20.0. Statistical package. Results: There was a negative correlation between attitudes toward WLST and respect for life (r=-.188, p=.010). Knowing about life-sustaining treatment (β=-0.30, p<.001), experience of WLST education (β=0.21, p=.003), experience of respect for life education (β=-0.16, p=.021), and experience of death (family or acquaintance) (β=-0.13, p=.039) explained 16.7% (F=8.39, p<.001) of the variance in attitudes toward WLST. The respect for life did not affect attitudes toward WLST (β=-0.07, p=.347). Conclusion: The study findings suggest that WLST in adolescents is different from that of adults. Further research is needed to develop strategies for sound and positive attitudes toward WLST in adolescents.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the variance of sleep quality and factors affecting sleep disturbance among patients with percutaneous coronary angiography in a general hospital. Methods: The subjects of this study was comprised of 101 patients with percutaneous coronary angiography in a general hospital located in B city. Data were collected by a structured questionnaire from November to December 2013. The data were analyzed with descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficient and stepwise multiple regression. Results: The levels of the participants' sleep quality and sleep disturbance were 4.35 and 5.91 in order of each out of the total score, 10. There was no significant difference in the quality of sleep between intensive care unit and internal medicine unit. Factors influencing sleep quality were 'uncomfortable bed, gown and pillow'(${\beta}=-.279$, p=.003), 'living alone'(${\beta}=-.273$, p=.003), and 'toilet problem' (${\beta}=-.222$, p=.016), which explained 21.5% of the variance (F=10.03, p<.001). Conclusion: The results of this study will provide a basis for improving the sleep quality of patients with percutaneous coronary angiography.
This paper suggests the improvement of the Sumjinkang for the estimation of areal averages of heavy rainfall events based on the optimal network and three existing networks. The problem consists of minimizing an objective function which includes both the accuracy of the areal mean estimation as expressed by the Kriging variance and the economic cost of the data collection. The wellknown geostatistical variance-reduction method is used in combination with SATS which is an algorithm of minimization. At the first stage, two kinds of optimal solutions are obtained by two trade-off coefficients. One of them is a optimal solution, the other is an alternative. At the second stage, a quasi optimal network and a quasi alternative are suggested so that the existing raingages near to the selected optimal raingages are included in the two solutions instead of gages of new gages.
The purpose of this study was to test the construct validity and reliability of the Health Self-Determinism Index for Children (HSDI-C), an instrument designed to measure intrinsic motivation in health behavior. An convenience sample of 558,7 to 13 years old children completed the Korean version of HSDI-C. The findings were as follows : 1. Construct validity was supported through factorial isolation of four theory-consistent subscales ; Internal-external cue responsive ness, Self-determinism in health judgement, Competency in health matters, and Self-determinism in health behavior /goal. The total percent of variance explained by 4 factors was 2 percent. 2. The correlations between the four factors were ranged from -.06 to .29 indicating that factors are not redundant and each factor contributes uniquely to the total construct. 3. Cronbach alpha coefficient for internal consistency was .96 for the total, and .72, .56, .69, and .75 on the respective subscales. Test-retest reliability for the total scale was .85 at 2 weeks. 4. The Analysis of variance for the HSDI-C total scale and subscales according to grades revealed that there were significant differences in means for the total and factor one and two, indicating younger children were more extrinsically motivated.
Purpose: This study aimed to investigate the factors affecting general hospital nurses' intention to stay in their jobs. Methods: A descriptive research design was used with a convenience sample of 286 nurses. Data were collected from March 15 to April 14, 2017using self-reported questionnaires and analyzed by descriptive statistics, t-test, analysis of variance, Pearson's correlation coefficient, and multiple regression analysis using the SPSS/WIN 21.0 program. Results: The mean scores for intention to stay, resilience, and emotional labor were 5.28 out of 8, 57.40 out of 100, and 3.23 out of 5, respectively. Intention to stay was positively correlated with overall career (r=.30), workplace (r=.18), shift work (r=-.20), position (r=.28), salary (r=.13), job satisfaction (r=.51), hospital satisfaction (r=.46), and resilience (r=.41). Factors influencing the intention to stay were job satisfaction and resilience, which explained 28% of the variance. Conclusion: Overall career, job satisfaction, and resilience are critical factors affecting general hospital nurses' intention to stay. Based on the findings of this study, efforts to improve nurses' job satisfaction and resilience should be implemented to mitigate the loss of this expert group among healthcare professionals.
Purpose: This study aimed to investigate influencing factors on life stress among nursing college students. Methods: A descriptive research design was used with a convenience sample of 392 nursing students. Data were collected from May 23 to June 3, 2016 using self-reported questionnaires and analyzed by descriptive statistics, t-test, analysis of variance, the Pearson correlation coefficient, and multiple regression analysis using the SPSS/WIN 21.0 program. Results: The mean scores of life stress, depression, self-esteem, and self-control were 1.72 out of 4, 1.58 out of 4, 3.60 out of 5, and 3.36 out of 5. Life stress was negatively correlated with self-esteem (r=-.56), self-control (r=-.30) and economic status (r=-.22) and was positively correlated with depression (r=.53). Factors influencing on life stress were economic status, depression and self-esteem, which explained 38% of the variance. Conclusion: Based on the finding of this study, it is necessary to develop education and intervention programs in order to decrease the life stress for nursing students.
Purpose: This study was conducted to develop and test a measurement of the suicidal protection(MSP) for high school students in Korea. Methods: Thirty-four preliminary items were initially developed based on literature review and focus group interviews. Those items were evaluated by experts for content validity with 31 items yielded. For testing validity and reliability of the measurement, data were collected from 330 high school students in Korea. Results: The item analysis selected 26 items. One item was deleted additionally through the primary exploratory factor analysis. The final exploratory factor analysis yielded 26 items in six factors such as fear of suicide, self-esteem, emotion regulation, support from others, support from family, and school life, explaining 66.6% of the total variance of the suicidal protection for high school students in Korea. Convergent validity and discriminant validity were supported by construct reliability, average variance extracted estimate, and standardized regression weight. MSP scores were positively associated with economic status, academic record and suicidal ideation. Also, criterion validity was supported through a significant correlation with the Reason for Living Inventory for Adolescent. The Cronbach's ${\alpha}$ reliability coefficient was .93 for the overall measurement and .72~.86 for the six factors. Conclusion: The results show that MSP may be valid and reliable for assessing suicidal protection of high school students.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify motivational factors that may influence health behaviors of patients with coronary artery disease. Methods: Structured questionnaires were used with a convenience sample of 164 subjects who were discharged from the hospital. The subjects were recruited for an interview at outpatient clinic in hospitals. The tools for the study were the motivational factors and health behaviors measure for the Elderly with cardiovascular disease. The data were analyzed using frequency, t-test, ANOVA, sheffe, Pearson correlation coefficient and stepwise multiple regressions. Results: There were significant correlations between motivational factors and health behaviors, ranging from r=.192 to .692. Stepwise multiple regression analyses indicated that 51% of variance in health behaviors was explained by self-efficacy and perceived benefits among four motivational factors(F=34.988, p<.01). Self-efficacy contributed the greatest amount of variance in health behaviors(${\beta}=.467$), followed by perceived benefits(${\beta}=.235$). Conclusions: The results of the study indicate that motivation, especially self-efficacy, was very important in predicting health behaviors of patients with coronary artery disease. Thus it would be necessary to include motivational factors in designing rehabilitation program for people with coronary artery disease.
