  • In this paper, it is analyzed that the error performance of a Multi-Carrier DS-CDMA system in a single cell with multipath Rician fading and multiple access interference (MAI) and the error performance of the system is compared with that of a Sing1e-Carrier DS-CDMA system. Moreover, the convolutional coding techniques with code rate of 1/2, 1/3, and 1/4 are adopted in order to improve the error performance degraded by the multipath fading and MAI and performance improvement through the coding techniques is analyzed. As a result, it is shown that the number of users in each system can be determined by the number of branches of the rake receiver in a Single-Carrier DS-CDMA system and the number of carriers in a Multi-Carrier DS-CDMA system. Furthermore, the convolutional coding should be chosen with considering the trade-off between coding gain and a power limitation in a Multi-Carrier DS-CDMA system. In case of increasing the number of carriers, the processing gain is decreased but the error performance is improved through the effect of frequency diversity and the system can be possibility implemented due to the low chip rate.

  • Sequences of the complete protein-coding portions of the mitochondrial (mt) genome were analysed for 6 species of cestodes (including hydatid tapeworms and the pork tapeworm) and 5 species of trematodes (blood flukes and liver- and lung-flukes). A near-complete sequence was also available for an additional trematode (the blood fluke Schistosoma malayensis). All of these parasites belong to a large flatworm taxon named the Neodermata. Considerable variation was found in the base composition of the protein-coding genes among these neodermatans. This variation was reflected in statistically-significant differences in numbers of each inferred amino acid between many pairs of species. Both convergence and divergence in nucleotide, and hence amino acid, composition was noted among groups within the Neodermata. Considerable variation in skew (unequal representation of complementary bases on the same strand) was found among the species studied. A pattern is thus emerging of diversity in the mt genome in neodermatans that may cast light on evolution of mt genomes generally.

  • In this paper, we propose and analyze the AMC (Adaptive Modulation and Coding) system with efficient turbo coded V-BLAST (Vertical-Bell-lab Layered Space-Time) technique. The proposed algorithm adopts extrinsic information from a MAP (Maximum A Posteriori) decoder with iterative decoding as a priori probability in two decoding procedures of V-BLAST scheme; the ordering and the slicing. Also, we consider the AMC system using the conventional turbo coded V-BLAST technique that simply combines the V-BLAST scheme with the turbo coding scheme. And we compare the proposed decoding algorithm to a conventional V-BLAST decoding algorithm and a ML (Maximum Likelihood) decoding algorithm. In addition, we apply a STD (Selection Transmit Diversity) scheme to the systems for better performance improvement. Results indicate that the proposed systems achieve better throughput performance than the conventional systems over the entire SNR range. In terms of transmission rate performance, the suggested system is close in proximity to the conventional system using the ML decoding algorithm.

  • In recent days, cooperative diversity and communication security become important research issues for wireless communications. In this paper, to achieve low probability of interception (LPI) and high throughput in the cooperative single-carrier frequency division multiple access (SC-FDMA) system, a new physical layer transmission scheme is proposed, where a new encryption algorithm is applied and adaptive modulation is further considered based on channel state information (CSI). By doing so, neither relay node nor eavesdropper can intercept the information signals transmitted from user terminal (UT). Simulation results show above new physical layer transmission scheme brings in high transmission safety and secrecy rate. Furthermore, by applying adaptive modulation and coding (AMC) technique according to CSI, transmission throughput can be increased significantly. Additionally, low peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR) characteristic can still be remained due to the uniform distribution of random coefficients used for encryption algorithm.

  • In this paper, new space-time block codes achieving full rate and full diversity for QAM and quasi-static Rayleigh fading channels when using 3 transmit antennas are proposed. These codes are constructed by serially concatenating the constellation rotating precoders with the Alamouti scheme like the conventional A-ST-CR code Computer simulations show that all of the proposed codes achieve the coding gains greater than the existing ST-CR code, in which the best has approximately 1.5dB and 3dB larger coding gains than the ST-CR code for QPSK and 16-QAM, respectively, at average SER= 10$^{-5}$.

  • In this paper, we propose an efficient space-time block coding (STBC) scheme in a cooperative satellite-terrestrial system. The proposed STBC scheme has code rate 1 for a 3 transmit antenna scheme. Because the channel matrix of the proposed scheme is orthogonal, we can use a simple linear decoding algorithm and also can expect improved performance over the conventional scheme. The simulation results demonstrate that the proposed scheme has improved performance for bit error rates (BER) than several conventional STBC schemes. In addition, we investigate performance simulation results by power imbalance between the terrestrial repeaters and satellite.

  • In this paper, a new trellis-coded differential unitary space-time modulation (TC-DUSTM) scheme based on amplitude/phase-shift-keying (APSK) signals is proposed. In particular, the design criterion of the trellis coding is proposed to combine the trellis coding and DUSTM scheme based on APSK constellation. From the computer simulations, we verify the superiority of the proposed TC-DUSTM based on APSK signals at the higher transmission rate. In addition, the proposed scheme can suppress the irreducible error of the differential scheme.

  • In this paper, we have analyzed the packet error probability of DS/CDMA-Trellis Coded QPSK modulation signal with MRC(Maximum Ratio Combining) diversity reception in Rician fading, multi-user interferences and multipath channel. And then we have evaluated the performance and capacity of DS/CDMA-Trellis Coded QPSK system using the MRC diversity reception as a function of direct power to indirect power ratio ($K_R$), the number of diversity branch(M), the number of multi-user(U), PN chip rate(PN), the number of multipath channel($L_P$), and packet length(PL). From the results, we know that the coding gain of DS/CDMA-Trellis Coded QPSK system with 2 branch MRC diversity is about 6 dB against uncoded DS/CDMA BPSK system with 2 branch MRC diversity in Rician fading ($K_R=6dB), 5 multi-user interferences, and 3 multipath channel. And, we know that coded QPSK signal designed for the AWGN channel also perform well on a Rician fading channel with MRC diversity reception. Consequently, we expected that proposed system structure is reliable to the wireless data communication system in Rician fading, multi-user interferences, and multipath channel.

  • In this paper, our goal is to find a power-effective protocol that improves the accuracy of transmission in sensor networks. Therefore we propose a cooperative communication protocol based on MRC(Maximal Ratio Combining) and cyclic code. In our proposal, one sensor node assists two others to communicate with a clusterhead that can get diversity effect and MRC can improve diversity effect also. The proposed protocol with cyclic code can correct error up to 3-bit and reduce decoding complexity compared with convolutional code. Simulation results reveal proposed protocol can save the network energy up to 6dB over single-hop protocol at BER(Bit Error Rate) of $10^{-2}$.

  • In this paper, we design non-linear transmitter and receiver using a uniform channel decomposition (UCD) to take account of inter-cell interference in multi-cell downlink systems. The designed UCD scheme brings forth the same SINR for all sub-channels in each cell. It provides great convenience to modulation/coding process and achieves the maximum diversity gain. The simulation results confirm that it exhibits a lower BER than the conventional method.
