  • The experimental and finite element studies of a coaxial cylindrical shell filled with liquid in the annular gap were performed to understand its vibration characteristics. Finite element analysis was achieved by using ANSYS code. Form the investigation of the changing trend of natural frequencies for the change of annular gap we know that the natural frequency of the coaxial cylindrical shell varies according to the mode shape. that is, in case of in-phase mode the natural frequency decrease as annular gap increase, but in case of out-of-phase mode the natural frequency increase. Finite element analysis results show the excellent agreement with the experimental results both in air and in water case, so that analysis on other cases with be possible without experiment.

  • Investigated in this study are the natural vibration characteristics of the coaxial cylindrical shells coupled with a fluid. Theoretical method is developed to find the natural frequencies of the shell using the finite Fourier series expansion, and their results are compared with those of finite element method to verify the validation of the method developed. The effect of the fluid-filled annulus and the boundary conditions on the modal characteristics of the coaxial shells is investigated using a finite element modeling.

  • Using the extensional vibration mode of PZT ring, a piezopump is successfully made. The PZT ring is polarized with thickness direction. The traveling extensional wave along the circumference of the ring is obtained by dividing two standing waves which are temporally and spatially phase shifted by 90 degrees from each other. The proposed piezopump is consisted of coaxial cylindrical shells that are bonded piezoelectric ceramic ring. The pump takes an unobtrusive operation into the simple displacing mechanism using peristaltic traveling waves without the physical moving parts. The finite elements analysis on the proposed pump model is carried out to verify its operation principle and design by the commercial FEM software. Components of piezopump were made, assembled, and tested to validate the concepts of the proposed pump and confirm the simulation results. The performance of the proposed piezopump is about 580 ${\mu}l/min$ in flow rate with the highest pressure level of 0.85 kPa, when the driving voltage is 150 $V_p$, 57 kHz.

  • In this study, an effective method to estimate the fundamental frequencies of co-axial cylinders immersed in fluid is proposed. The proposed method makes use of the equivalent mass or density that is derived from the added mass matrix caused by the fluid-structure interaction (FSI) phenomenon. The equivalent mass is defined from the added mass matrix based on a 2-D potential flow theory. The theory on two co-axial cylinders extended to the case of three cylinders. To prove the validity of the proposed method, the eigenvalue analyses upon coaxial cylinders coupled with fluid gaps are peformed using the equivalent mass. The analyses results upon various fluid gap is conditions reveal that the present method could provide accurate frequencies and be suitable for expecting the fundamental frequencies of fluid coupled cylinders in beam mode vibration.
