Protective Effect of Ag Coated on Textured YBCO Surface

  • Ag coating on the textured YBCO was prepared by means of a Ag$_2$O brushed coating method. The contact between Ag coating and textured YBCO was examined by sharp knife cut and by the observation of SEM. The critical current densities of different textured YBCO samples, which included YBCO with and without Ag coating, and YBCO with Ag coating after hot moist text, were compared. The Ag coating does not influence the oxygen absorption of textured YBCO, but Ag coating can protect YBCO well from moisture and $CO_2$

  • Yttrium(Y) coating was incorporated by ion-plating method either directly on the TiAl substrate or after pack aluminizing on TiAl to improve the oxidation resistance of TiAl alloy. After Y-coating, heat treatment at low oxygen partial pressure was carried out. Performance of various coating was evaluated by isothermal and cyclic oxidation tests. A simple Y-coating without pack aluminizing can give a detrimental effect on the. oxidation resistance of TiAl alloy, because it enhances formation of $TiO_2$. On the other hand, a composite coating of aluminide-yttrium has shown excellent oxidation resistance. A continuous protective $Al_2O_3$ scale is formed on the aluminized TiAl, and Y-coating improves $Al_2O_3$ scale adherence and substantially prevents depletion of Al in the aluminide-coating layer.

Physical Aging Mechanism of Epoxy Coating by Hygrothermal Cycling Test

  • The anticorrosive performance of epoxy coating was examined by using the hygrothermal cyclic test and the degradation mechanism of the coating was investigated by using the AC impedance method. The relationship between the results obtained from different tests was studied. It was revealed that the hygrothermal cyclic test can be used as an effective acceleration test for the degradation of organic coating. It was also found in hygrothermal cyclic test that the epoxy coatings have the resistance to stresses at some extent. The degradation of organic coating seems to be caused by the decrease of resistance of coating and the increase of both capacitance and free volume in the organic coating.

  • Effect of tension coating on reducing iron losses of thin grain-oriented 3% Si-Fe steel sheets was investigated. Conventional grain-oriented electrical steel sheets have a forsterite coating layer and a tension coating layer in order to apply tensile stress to the rolling direction of the sheets. However the proposed coating method in this paper is to form only a tension coating layer on the both surfaces of the sheets. Iron losses with the tension coating were reduced by 8% under the condition of 1.7 T and 60 Hz. Consequently the proposed tension coating is applicable to $80{\mu}m$-thick 3% Si-Fe steel sheets.

다구찌 기법에 의한 코발트기 자융성합금 용사코팅의 최적공정 설계 (Process Optimization for Co-based Self-flux Alloy Coating by Taguchi Method)

  • This paper describes process optimization for thermal-sprayed Co-based self-flux alloy coating by Taguchi method. Co-based self-flux alloy coatings were fabricated according to $L_9(3^4)$ orthogonal array using flame spray process. Hardness test and wear test were performed, the results were analyzed by analysis of variance(ANOVA) considering a multi response signal to noise ratio(MRSN). From the results of ANOVA, the optimal combination of the flame spray parameters on Co-based self-flux alloy coating could be predicted. The calculated hardness and wear rate of the coatings by ANOVA were found to be close to that of confirmation experimental result.

  • Films and coatings are used for an enormous and diverse set of applications including mechanical, electronic and optical devices, protection at high temperature, cutting tools enhancement and automotive use. Many of these applications require the various properties associated with inorganic and metallic / non-metallic materials; i.e., with ceramics. Therefore, a large number of coatings have been developed and used for a long time in the various fields, especially in mechanical one. As one of the mutual surface actions, the problems of contact stresses are complex. The relationship between load and stress are nonlinear. Besides, the material is often apt to deform plastically under low load. However, analytical solutions exist only for some simple problems. If a material has a complicated shape or inhomogeneous properties, numerical method must be used. In this paper, the analysis of the contact stress of the coating layer was solved, using the finite element method.

Under different coating conditions, cutting resistances have been obtained and analyzed with a tool dynamometer to provide optimized coating conditions. The optimized coating conditions Lhave been computed with the most effective factors found by S/N ratio of Taguchi method. To evaluate the influence of the factors on cutting efficiency through the minimum of number of experiment times, the way of neural network design using Taguchi method has been employed.

  • Sintered alumina ceramic substrate has been used for the insulating substrate for thick Hybrid IC owing to its cheapness and good insulating properties. Some of thick HIC's are important to eliminate the heat emitted from the parts that are mounted on the ceramic substrate. Sintered ceramic substrate can not transfer and emit the heat efficiently. It's been tried to do plasma spray coating of alumina ceramic on the metal substrates that have a good heat emission property. The most important properties to commercialize this ceramic coated metal substrate are surface roughness and deposition efficiency. In this study, plasma spray coating parameters are optimized to minimize the surface roughness and to maximize the deposition efficiency using Taguchi experimental method. By this optimization, the deposition efficiency was greatly improved from 35% at the frist time to 75% finally.

  • The purpose of this study is to develop a numerical method for analyzing the transient heat transfer and evaluating the residual stress. The analysis of heat transfer and thermal stress are carried out by three-dimensional finite element method. Thermal spraying is one of the most common surface coating techniques to be used for many applications. In order to improve the mechanical properties of flame-sprayed ceramic coating layer, the accurate and effective analysis of heat transfer and thermal stress is essentially required.
