The electrolytic reduction of spent oxide fuel involves the liberation of oxygen in a molten LiCl electrolyte, which results in a chemically aggressive environment that is too corrosive for typical structural materials. So, it is essential to choose the optimum material for the process equipment handling molten salt. In this study, corrosion behavior of Inconel 713LC, Inconel MA 754, Nimonic 80A and Nimonic 90 in the molten salt $LiCl-Li_2O$ under an oxidizing atmosphere was investigated at $650^{\circ}C$ for 72~216 hrs. Inconel 713LC alloy showed the highest corrosion resistance among the examined alloys. Corrosion products of Inconel 713LC were $Cr_2O_3$, $NiCr_2O_4$ and NiO, and those of Inconel MA 754 were $Cr_2O_3$ and $Li_2Ni_8O_{10}$ while $Cr_2O_3$, $LiFeO_2$, $(Cr,Ti)_2O_3$ and $Li_2Ni_8O_{10}$ were produced from Nimonic 80A. Also, corrosion products of Nimonic 90 were found to be $Cr_2O_3$, $(Cr,Ti)_2O_3$, $LiAlO_2$ and $CoCr_2O_4$. Inconel 713LC showed local corrosion behavior and Inconel MA 754, Nimonic 80A, Nimonic 90 showed uniform corrosion behavior.

Carbon material shows relatively high strength at high temperature in vacuum atmosphere and can be easily removed as CO or $CO_2$ gas in oxidation atmosphere. Using these characteristics, we have investigated the applicability of carbon mold for precision casting of high melting point metal such as nickel. Disc shape carbon mold with cylindrical pores was prepared and Ni-base super alloy (CM247LC) was used as casting material. The effects of electroless Nickel plating on wettability and cast parameters such as temperature and pressure on castability were investigated. Furthermore, the proper condition for removal of carbon mold by evaporation in oxidation atmosphere was also examined. The SEM observation of the interface between carbon mold and casting materials (CM247LC), which was infiltrated at temperature up to $1600^{\circ}C$, revealed that there was no particular product at the interface. Carbon mold was effectively eliminated by exposure in oxygen rich atmosphere at $705^{\circ}C$ for 3 hours and oxidation of casting materials was restrained during raising and lowering the temperature by using inert gas. It means that the carbon can be applicable to precision casting as mold material.
Titanium and its alloys can be usually joined with brazing method. And the alloys should be brazed at low temperature to keep their original microstructure. In this study, the mechanical strength and microstructure of the CP-Ti joint-brazed with $Zr_{54}Ti_{22}Ni_{16}Cu_8$ filler metal having melting temperature of $774{\sim}783^{\circ}C$ were investigated. The tensile strengths of the joint-brazed at $800^{\circ}C$ with $100^{\circ}C/min$ of cooling rate showed more than 400 MPa which was as high as base metal. The $Widmanst{\ddot{a}}tten$ structure consisting of Ti and $Ti_2Ni$ phase was observed in the joint area. However, the tensile strengths of the joint-brazed at $800^{\circ}C$ with $15^{\circ}C/min$ of cooling rate were decreased and the Ti, $(Ti,Zr)_2Ni$ and $Ti_2Ni$ phases were observed at the joint area. It is believed that the $(Ti,Zr)_2Ni$ laves phases could decrease the mechanical strength of the joint and the cooling rate should be controled to get high strength of the titanium joint.

PURPOSE. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the bond strength of composite resin on the fracture surface of metal-ceramic depending on the repair systems and surface roughening methods. MATERIALS AND METHODS. A total of 30 disk specimens were fabricated, 15 of each were made from feldspathic porcelain and nickel-chromium base metal alloy. Each substrate was divided into three groups according to the repair method: a) application of repair system I (Intraoral Repair Kit) with diamond bur roughening (Group DP and DM), b) application of repair system I with airborne-particle abrasion (Group SP and SM), and c) application of repair system II (CoJet Intraoral Repair System, Group CP and CM). All specimens were thermocycled, and the shear bond strength was measured. The data were analyzed using the Kruskal-Wallis analysis and the Mann-Whitney test with a significance level of 0.05. RESULTS. For the porcelain specimens, group SP showed the highest shear bond strength ($25.85{\pm}3.51MPa$) and group DP and CP were not significantly different. In metal specimens, group CM showed superior values of bond strength ($13.81{\pm}3.45MPa$) compared to groups DM or SM. CONCLUSION. Airborne-particle abrasion and application of repair system I can be recommended in the case of a fracture localized to the porcelain. If the fracture extends to metal surface, the repair system II is worthy of consideration.

The use of the scroll compressor in the air conditioning of medium-sized vehicles has increased because of its low torque fluctuation, high energy efficiency and low noise. In addition, the main components of the compressor have been changed from steel to aluminum to reduce its weight, following studies on the constituent materials. The processing precision of the fixed scroll and orbiting involute scroll wrap of the scroll compressor must be below $10{\mu}m$. To ensure this, the surface roughness and contour tolerance are measured. To improve the hardness of the orbiting scrolls using aluminum subjected to anodizing treatment and as the base material, we used a sealing treatment and measured the resulting characteristics. The aluminum materials were made of an Al-Mg-Cu based alloy including small amounts of Ni, Fe, and Zn. The surface roughness was less than $3{\mu}m$ and the processing accuracy was within $10{\mu}m$. Also, the hardness of the nanodiamonds with CNTs used in the sealing treatment was more than 450. This was found to improve the hardness of the material by 50% or more compared to the water sealing treatment and there was little difference between the use of carbon nanotubes and nanodiamonds as sealing materials.
Two major goals for chemical cleaning on the secondary side of nuclear steam generators are to remove sludge effectively and to minimize corrosion of base metals. In this work, electrochemical and sludge dissolution behaviors have been investigated in order to find out which parameters are critical and important during a copper removal process for chemical cleaning and to evaluate safety aspects and effectiveness of two major copper removal processes developed commercially in foreign countries. Hydrogen peroxide is vert effective for the process to use EDTA, NH$_4$OH and EDA at 38$^{\circ}C$ to control the potential of copper in a potential range sood for copper sludge removal. Corrosion rates for carbon steel SA 285 Gr.C and Alloy 600 are very small during this process if it is controlled properly. However, the corrosion rate of SA 285 Gr.C will be increased greatly if its corrosion potential is maintained below -450mV. The process to use EDA and ammonium carbonate is effective at 6$0^{\circ}C$ to dissolve copper sludge if the corrosion potential of copper can be controlled above -200mV. However, it is very difficult to raise the corrosion potential of copper to this range by air blowing and stirring.
Recently, as the range of mobile communication services is extended, the interference between adjacent base-stations is increased. Nowdays, one of the important factors causing interference is IMD (Inter-Modulation Distortion) problems. Not only active IMD but also passive IMD effects must be considered to design a CDMA system. In this study, we design and implement 7/16" DIN connectors which have a various intensity of surface illumination, thickness and quality of plating material to analyze the effects of PIMD. And propose the methods for improving the PIMD characteristics: First, it is more profitable to use the metal which has good intensity of surface illumination where most of all electric currents passes through it. Secondly, we should plate metals more than $5{\mu}m$ for RF energy enough to propagate in a medium. Thirdly, it is necessary to select a metal having high conductivity and specific heat to protect the aging phenomenon of plate material. And it is required to develop a new plating material to replace the current materials, such as the alloy of three components for cost reduction. We have to know that the plate which has intensity of surface illumination 6 S and the thickness of plating material $5{\mu}m$ satisfy the domestic PIMD specification (KTF) -150 dBc, regardless of the plate material in case of 7/16" DIN connector.

This study examined the mechanical strength and corrosion resistance of a dissimilar joint with an aluminum alloy and steel by resistance element spot welding. SPFC980 steels and Al5052 alloys were applied as the base materials. S20C steels were assembled on Al5052 for the riveting element before the electric resistance welding process. The SPFC980-S20C riveted Al5052 was welded at a 6.5 kA current and 250 kgf/㎠. As a result, the engraved S20C elements formed unstable nuggets after the spot welding processes. In contrast, in the embossed S20C elements, exceptional mechanical properties, such as robust corrosion resistance and fatigue resistance, were obtained by structurally sound joints. The correlation between the microstructure and mechanical properties were examined by microstructural investigations and FEM simulations. The corrosion reliability of element spot-welded SPFC980-Al5052 dissimilar joints was investigated systematically.
