  • In this paper we review recent work in our laboratory on nanocomposite CoSm-based films including CoSm with Cr underlayer (CoSm//Cr), exchange-coupled magnetic films consisting of CoSm and FeCo layers (CoSm/FeCo), and CoSm multilayers with nonmagnetic spacing layers of SmO (CoSm/SmO). The emphasis is on detailed investigations of microstructure and magnetic properties for CoSm//Cr films, exchange-spring effects for CoSm/FeCo films, and interlayer effects for (CoSm/ SmO) multilayers.

  • In genome-wide association studies, pathway-based analysis has been widely performed to enhance interpretation of single-nucleotide polymorphism association results. We proposed a novel method of hierarchical structural component model (HisCoM) for pathway analysis of common variants (HisCoM for pathway analysis of common variants [HisCoM-PCA]) which was used to identify pathways associated with traits. HisCoM-PCA is based on principal component analysis (PCA) for dimensional reduction of single nucleotide polymorphisms in each gene, and the HisCoM for pathway analysis. In this study, we developed a HisCoM-PCA software for the hierarchical pathway analysis of common variants. HisCoM-PCA software has several features. Various principle component scores selection criteria in PCA step can be specified by users who want to summarize common variants at each gene-level by different threshold values. In addition, multiple public pathway databases and customized pathway information can be used to perform pathway analysis. We expect that HisCoM-PCA software will be useful for users to perform powerful pathway analysis.

  • The analysis for furan compound has provided a complementary technique to dissolved gas analysis(DGA) for monitoring transformers when total concentration of CO and $CO_2$ dissolved in oil only has been evaluated the aging of insulating paper. But, the analysis of furanic compounds by high performance liquid chromatography(HPLC) has been important more than DGA recently. Because it has been known that furanic components in transformer oil have come only from the decomposition of insulating paper. Therefore we have manufactured accelerating aging cell which was aged during 60 hours at 100, 150, 180 and $200^{\circ}C$, respectively, for investigating the characteristics of cellulose paper by thermal using analysis for CO, $CO_2$ and furan compound.

  • In order to reveal the co-research relationship with key research institutes in the computer field in Korea, which have high competitiveness in the ICT field, this paper analyzes the co-author network of research institutes based on the papers of Korean journals. For this study, 15 computer journals published in Korea were selected and collected for the past 5 years. In addition, authors, affiliated institutions, and country information were extracted from the papers, and experimental data were produced using institutional identification data and SNA analysis techniques. Through this, statistical analysis was performed on researchers, research institutes, and countries, and the centrality of research institutes was measured through co-authored network analysis and visualized as a map. The results of the research that analyzed the co-author relationship based on the papers in computer science journals published in Korea are as follows. First, the status of co-author relations among researchers was statistically analyzed in detail. The number of authors, the number of co-authors, and statistics by co-authoring countries, as well as the ratio of co-authored research by institution and the ratio of co-authored by country were revealed. The co-authoring status of papers in English journals was analyzed separately to compare and analyze characteristics. Second, the centrality of each individual was measured through the co-authored network analysis of the identified researchers, institutions and countries affiliated with the institution, and the frequency of connection between data by level was identified. In addition, the co-authorization network between research institutes was visualized and presented as a map so that the overall view of the co-authoring network was presented, and the connection frequency between the institutes was checked. It is possible to recommend a research partner based on the co-authoring behavior of Korean computer researchers and the co-authoring relationship between major research institutes. For this, additional research is needed to analyze the subject areas of each institution.

  • The novel coronavirus pandemic that has originated from China and spread throughout the world in three months. Genome of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) predecessor, severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus (SARS-CoV) and Middle East respiratory syndrome coronavirus (MERS-CoV) play an important role in understanding the concept of genetic variation. In this paper, the genomic data accessed from National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) through Molecular Evolutionary Genetic Analysis (MEGA) for statistical analysis. Firstly, the Bayesian information criterion (BIC) and Akaike information criterion (AICc) are used to evaluate the best substitution pattern. Secondly, the maximum likelihood method used to estimate of transition/transversions (R) through Kimura-2, Tamura-3, Hasegawa-Kishino-Yano, and Tamura-Nei nucleotide substitutions model. Thirdly and finally nucleotide frequencies computed based on genomic data of NCBI. The results indicate that general times reversible model has the lowest BIC and AICc score 347,394 and 347,287, respectively. The transition/transversions bias for nucleotide substitutions models varies from 0.56 to 0.59 in MEGA output. The average nitrogenous bases frequency of U, C, A, and G are 31.74, 19.48, 28.04, and 20.74, respectively in percentages. Overall the genomic data analysis of SARS-CoV-2, SARS-CoV, and MERS-CoV highlights the close genetic relationship.

  • CO adsorbates on the surface of Pt supported on carbon catalysts (Pt/C) were investigated by CO stripping voltammetry. Three types of CO adsorbed samples were prepared: by methanol dehydrogenation only (COm), by CO gas bubbling only (COg), and by methanol dehydrogenation followed by CO gas bubbling (COm+g). Our coverage data show that CO gas can be adsorbed on Pt/C catalyst already saturated with CO adsorbates by methanol dehydrogenation. The COm+g sample showed the properties of both COm as well as COg samples in terms of the potential although the CO adsorbed by dehydrogenation was completely exchanged with CO in the electrolyte solution. Therefore, the oxidation pathways of CO on Pt/C were observed to depend on the initial adsorption conditions of CO more strongly than on the CO coverage. Our results imply that an initial CO poisoning condition in fuel cell operation is an important factor to determine the difficulty in removing the adsorbed CO and confirm that the properties of the adsorbed CO do not change even with chemical replacement with CO in different conditions. In addition, our results indicate a low CO surface mobility on the Pt in an electrolyte solution.

  • Comparison studies of the Quantitative Structure Activity Relationship (QSAR) methods with new imidazo-quinolinedione derivatives were conducted using Comparative Molecular Field Analysis (CoMFA), Comparative Molecular Similarity Indices Analysis (CoMSIA), and the Hologram Quantitative Structure Activity Relationship (HQSAR). When the CoMFA crossvalidation value, q2, was 0.625, the Pearson correlation coefficient, r2, was 0.973. In CoMSIA, q2 was 0.52 and r2 was 0.979. In the HQSAR, q2 was 0.501 and r2 was 0.924. The best result was obtained using the CoMSIA method according to a comparison of the calculated values with the real in vitro cytotoxic activities against human ovarian cancer cell lines.
