Design Optimization of Tractor Clutch Mechanism Systems by Using Feasible Direction Method (유용방향법 최적화 알고리즘을 이용한 트랙터 클러치 최적설계)

  • In order to optimize an agricultural tractor clutch mechanism system, its structural static and kinematic mechanism were analyzed. The operating force of the mechanical tractor clutch system is currently not appropriate to drive comfortably. So it is needed to reduce the clutch operating force by applying advanced engineering design techniques. In the present study, an optimization technology is applied to the design of tractor clutch systems to reduce the operating force. As a result of the optimization using 2 link-angles and 1 link-length which are the main design variables of the clutch linkage system, the maximum pushing force of the maximum clutch pedal was found 182.8N, 14% decreased compared to the existing clutch system. The effectiveness of the optimum design is certified by menas of an experiment.

  • ER clutch is a device using ER fluid, so called "intelligent material" and is a power transmission system controlled with electric field strength. This device responses very rapidly when controlled by rapid and continuous electrical signal and can form a servosystem. Wear, noise and vibration during operation is very low level. This study was undertaken to investigate substitutive possibilities of this ER clutch for existing power transmission mechanism. An analytic relationships using rheological model (so called, 'Bingham plastic model') of ER fluid were developed, and operation constraints and optimum design concepts were constructed. With this relationships, typical responses of ER clutch and effects of changing geometric, kinetic parameters of ER clutch and ER fluid properties were described. In conclusion, compared with existing mechanisms, an excellent performance of ER clutch was confirmed.confirmed.

  • This paper reports on the development of a roller-cam clutch mechanism. This mechanism can transfer bidirectional torque with high backdrivability, as well as increase actuation energy efficiency, in electrical exoskeleton robots. The developed mechanism was installed at the robot knee joint and unclutched during the swing phase which uses less metabolic energy, thereby functioning as a passive joint. The roller-cam clutch aimed to increase actuation energy efficiency while also producing high backdrivability by generating zero impedance for users during the swing phase. To develop the mechanism, mathematical modeling of the roller-cam clutch was conducted, with the design having more than three safety factors following optimization. Titanium (Ti-6AL-4V) material was used. Finally, modeling verification was done using ANSYS software.

  • It is desirable that the guard robot should be small-sized and light-weighted to increase its portability. In addition, it should be able to overcome a relatively high obstacle to cope with different situations. The jumping robot can reach a higher place more rapidly than other locomotion methods. This research proposes the jumping mechanism based on the conical spring for a small robot. Both the clutch mechanism and conical spring are incorporated into the jumping mechanism. In the clutch mechanism, the spring can be immediately compressed and released by one actuator with the planetary gear train and one-way clutch. The robot equipped with the jumping mechanism can overcome the obstacles which are higher than its height. In this paper, the characteristic of the conical spring for the jumping robot is determined and the small-sized, lightweight jumping mechanism is developed. The validity of the jumping mechanism was verified by various experiments. It is shown that the robot using this mechanism can provide good mobility in the rough terrain.

Friction Characteristics of an Hydraulic Cylinder for an Automotive Manual Clutch (자동차 수동 클러치 유압 실린더의 마찰 특성)

  • A clutch hydraulic system for automotive manual transmissions transfers hydraulic pressure generated by driver's pedal manipulation to the clutch mechanism. The foot effort when the clutch pedal is pushed is different than that when the clutch is returned. The effort or load difference, called hysteresis, is caused by the friction produced between rubber seal and inner wall inside the hydraulic cylinder. This clutch pedal travel foot effort hysteresis is essential for a clutch hydraulic system design and analysis. The dynamic model for a clutch hydraulic system is developed and a simulation analysis is performed to estimate the fiction coefficient as a function of the cylinder pressure. The simulation result is then compared to the measurements obtained from a clutch hydraulic system tester to ensure the reliability of the dynamic model and the coefficients estimated. Also the estimated friction coefficients at various pressure values are compared to those reported by an independent study.

  • This paper proposes a driver supportive device with haptic cue function which can be applicable for vehicles adopting manual transmission system to transmit gear-shifting information to a driver by kinesthetic forces. This haptic cue function is implemented on accelerator pedal by utilizing magnetorheological(MR) fluid and clutch mechanism. In order to achieve this goal, an MR clutch mechanism is devised to be capable of rotary motion of accelerator pedal. The proposed MR clutch is then optimally designed and manufactured under consideration of spatial limitation of vehicles. After transmission torque is experimentally evaluated according to field intensity. The manufactured MR clutch is integrated with accelerator pedal and electric motor to establish the haptic cue device. Control performances are experimentally evaluated via a simple feed-forward control algorithm.

  • ER clutch is a device using ER fluid, so called "intelligent material" and is a controlled system with electric field strength. Currently, the temperature of ER fluid increases and affects the performance of ER clutch when ER clutch is operating. This study was undertaken to estimate this performance variation due to temperature rise of ER fluid. An analytic heat transfer model of concentric cylinder type ER clutch was developed and with this model, effects of changing geometric, kinetic parameters of ER clutch and ER fluid properties were described. In conclusion, compared with neglecting thermal effects, a performance of ER clutch was very differential and for uniform performance of ER clutch, we have to improve thermal stability of ER fluid.   • Due to the increase of oil price, the needs of the reduction of the fuel cost is rising. Therefore, necessity of hybrid vehicle that runs with engine and the electric motor is on the rise. In order to improve the performance of hybrid vehicle, many researches is carried out. Hybrid vehicles have been developed with the various layout such as serial type, parallel type, power split type, and multi-mode type. The multi-mode hybrid vehicles are designed to show the efficient driving characteristics at low speed and high speed. But the multi-mode system have the problem such as frequent clutch engagement. Frequent clutch engagement causes the shock of vehicles, and the shock inhibits the ride comfort. In this study, automation mechanism of clutch operation is proposed to mitigate the shock at engaging clutch. For this purpose, the dynamic characteristics of motor control is numerically analyzed by using Matlab/Simulink.

  • In the motorized retractor of the smart seat belt system, anti-overload clutch is a very important element to prevent the excessive belt tensional force. Anti-overload clutch is the essential device to protect drivers from chest damage by the excessive belt tension. It generates slipping motion under excessive webbing moment and the belt tensional force is limited below critical value. In this study, slipping mechanism in the antioverload clutch is investigated by analysis and experiment. On the prototype model, finite element analysis is performed to identify the slipping condition and to determine the critical load. Analysis result is compared with the experimental result and the validity of the analysis model is verified. The purpose of the study is to provide the analytical background for the systematic design of the anti-overload clutch mechanism.
