  • We probe 12CO J=2-1 and 13CO J=1-0 properties of a Virgo disk galaxy, NGC 4402 which is located near the cluster center. Our goal is to study the impact of intra cluster medium (ICM) on the molecular gas of a galaxy in the cluster environment. It has been believed that cluster galaxies are deficient in atomic hydrogen gas (HI gas) compared to their field counterparts and now there is much evidence that low density ISM can be easily removed by ram pressure caused by ICM wind. Meanwhile, no significant molecular gas deficiency of the cluster galaxy population has been found yet they show overall lower star formation rate than galaxies in the field, and it is still controversy whether dense ISM can be also stripped by the ICM wind or not. NGC 4402 with truncated HI disk($D_{HI}/D_{opt}$ ~ 0.75 and only 36%of HI gas compare to field galaxies of a similar size) and a disturbed gas morphology, appears to have strong ongoing ram pressure. Using high resolution 12 and 13CO data of NGC 4402 from a Sub Millimeter Array (SMA), we probe the molecular gas properties under strong ICM pressure. We discuss how its star formation activity and hence the global color of NGC4402 would be changed in the future.

  • Since sensor nodes have restriction of using resources in Zigbee network, number of study on improving efficiency is currently ongoing[1]. Clustering mechanism based on hierarchy structure provides a prevention of duplicated information and a facility of a network expansion[2]. however overheads can occurs when the cluster header is elected and the election of a incorrect cluster header causes to use resources inefficiently. In this paper, we propose that the cluster header election mechanism using distances between nodes and density of nodes in accordance with the operation of the central processing system in which the sync nodes are having information of location and energy with respect to general nodes based on hierachy clustering mechanism.

  • We provide R scripts to detect outliers in multivariate data and visualization. Detecting outliers is provided using three approaches 1) Robust Mahalanobis distance, 2) High Dimensional data, 3) density-based approach methods. We use the following techniques to visualize detected potential outliers 1) multidimensional scaling (MDS) and minimal spanning tree (MST) with k-means clustering, 2) MDS with fviz cluster, 3) principal component analysis (PCA) with fviz cluster. For real data sets, we use MLB pitching data including Ryu, Hyun-jin in 2013 and 2014. The developed R scripts can be downloaded at "http://www.knou.ac.kr/~sskim/ddpoutlier.html" (R scripts and also R package can be downloaded here).

  • Galaxy cluster is the most important laboratoriy to study the effect of environment on galaxies, one of key questions in astronomy. In the local universe, it is well known that red, passive galaxies are concentrated in the cluster core. However, it is still controversial whether the star formation-density relation at the low redshift is retained in the distant universe. Many surveys have tried to find galaxy clusters at various epochs. However the optical dataset has limitations in finding galaxy clusters at z > 1, since the bulk of stellar emission of z > 1 galaxies is redshifted into the near-IR regime. We used the multi-wavelength data from the UKIDSS DXS (J and K bands), the SWIRE (4 IRAC bands), and the PAN-STARRS (g, r, i, z, y bands) and IMS (J band; Im et al. 2015, in preparation) in the European Large Area ISO Survey North1 (ELAIS-N1) field to search for high redshift galaxy clusters and study the properties of member galaxies. Using the multi-wavelength data, we investigated overdensities of galaxies at 0.2 < z < 1.6 based on the photometric redshift information. We found several superclusters where cluster candidates are concentrated within scales of few tens of Mpc at z ~ 0.9. Interestingly, some of the supercluster candidates consist of galaxy clusters which are dominated by blue galaxies. We will present high redshift galaxy cluster and supercluster candidates in ELAIS-N1 field and galaxy properties in different environments including dense clusters and fields.

  • The objective of this study was to identify the texture-related components of woven fabrics and to develop a multidimensional perceptual structure map to represent the tactile textures. Eighty subjects in clothing and tektite industries were selected for multivariate data on each fabric of 30 using the questionnaire with 9 pointed semantic differential scales of 20 texture-related adjectives. Data were analyzed by factor analysis, hierarchical cluster analysis, and multidimensional scaling(MDS) using SPSS statistical package. The results showed that the five factors were selected and composed of density/warmth-coolness, stiffness, extensibility, drapeability, and surface/slipperiness. As a result of hierarchical cluster analysis, 30 fabrics were grouped by four clusters; each cluster was named with density/warmth-coolness, surface/slipperiness, stiffness, and extensibility, respectively. By MDS, three dimensions of tactile texture were obtained and a 3-dimensional perceptual structure map was suggested. The three dimensions were named as surface/slipperiness, extensibility, and stiffness. We proposed a positioning perceptual map of fabrics related to texture naming system(TNS). To classify the textural features of the woven fabrics, hierarchical cluster analysis containing all the data variations, even though it includes the errors, may be more desirable than texture-related multidimensional data analysis based on factor loading values in respect of the effective variables reduction without losing the critical variations.

  • Purpose and Method: Crowed Events can lead to sudden accidents caused by unpredictable variables. Therefore, focusing on the '10.29 Itaewon accident' among the representative cases, we examined the accident as the process of occurrence. In addition, improvement measures were suggested through analysis of related legal systems. Result: In the Itaewon accident, a "colony wave phenomenon" occurred due to "ultra-high-density cluster stay". In addition, cluster destruction occurred from a weak location in the cluster due to clusters and pressures in different directions to avoid this. Looking at the laws related to the safety management of Crowed Events, the laws and regulations differ depending on the location and type. Due to the complementary nature of the approach to the legal blind spot, the legal system that uses similar terms of the same concept and is not systematic is causing uncertainty in the application and interpretation of the law. Conclusion: Crowd control and on-site management should be carried out for events when the cluster density is expected to reach 8 people/m2 or reached. Consistency should be maintained through the unified application of legislation to related legislation.

  • We use the IllustrisTNG cosmological hydrodynamical simulation to study the evolution of star formation rate (SFR)-density relation over cosmic time. We construct several samples of galaxies at different redshifts from z=2.0 to z=0.0, which have the same comoving number density. The SFR of galaxies decreases with local density at z=0.0, but its dependence on local density becomes weaker with redshift. At z≳1.0, the SFR of galaxies increases with local density (reversal of the SFR-density relation), and its dependence becomes stronger with redshift. This change of SFR-density relation with redshift still remains even when fixing the stellar masses of galaxies. The dependence of SFR on the distance to a galaxy cluster also shows a change with redshift in a way similar to the case based on local density, but the reversal happens at a higher redshift, z~1.5, in clusters. On the other hand, the molecular gas fraction always decreases with local density regardless of redshift at z=0.0-2.0 even though the dependence becomes weaker when we fix the stellar mass. Our study demonstrates that the observed reversal of the SFR-density relation at z≳1.0 can be successfully reproduced in cosmological simulations. Our results are consistent with the idea that massive, star-forming galaxies are strongly clustered at high redshifts, forming larger structures. These galaxies then consume their gas faster than those in low-density regions through frequent interactions with other galaxies, ending up being quiescent in the local universe.

  • This study investigated the relationships among middle school students' understanding about the nature of scientific knowledge, conceptual understanding, and learning strategies. Grade 7 students (N=162) in Incheon completed the nature of scientific knowledge scales (NSKS) and a learning strategy questionnaire. After learning density by way of a CAl program, a conception test was administered. Results indicated that students' conceptual understanding and both deep and surface learning strategies were significantly correlated to their understanding about the nature of scientific knowledge. A cluster analysis was used to classify students on the basis of their deep and surface learning strategies. Three clusters of students with distinctive learning strategy patterns were found; high deep-low surface strategy (cluster 1), low deep-high surface strategy (cluster 2), and high deep-high surface strategy (cluster 3). One-way ANOVA results revealed that the scores of cluster 3 were significantly higher than those of the others in the NSKS and the conception test. Additionally, cluster 1 also performed better than cluster 2 in the conception test. Lastly, educational implications were discussed.

  • The purpose of this study is to identify areas in need of urban renewal by utilizing spatial data and analyzing their types and characteristics. For this, this research employed a kernel density function and K-means cluster analysis with spatial data, through which it sought ways to identify high-demand areas for urban renewal projects. The key findings and implications of the research are summarized as follows. Firstly, this research classified 587 target sites in Seoul based on development density (ratios) and an indicator for aged buildings. Approximately half of these areas were consistent with leading pilot project sites and Accelerated Integration Sites. Secondly, it was observed that residential environments in the designated leading pilot project sites, as decided by public sectors, were relatively poor compared to other areas. Lastly, the target areas for urban renewal were not clearly categorized through statistical analysis. Instead, it was found that categorization should be made depending on the requirements of each project.

  • The first large-format CCD color-magnitude diagram (CMD) in the B and V passbands is presented for the Galactic globular cluster M53 (NGC 5024). We have discovered 117 new blue straggler (BS) candidates in the field of M53. The analysis of bright BS stars (V <19.0) clearly shows a bimodal radial distribution, with a high frequency in the inner and outer regions. The distribution is similar to that found in M3, a globular cluster with similar central density and concentration.
