Data were collected from 510 consumers in their 20s to 50s with purchasing experiences through multi-channel distribution system and living in Seoul and Kyunggi province; 491 were analyzed after deleting incomplete questionnaires. Factor analysis, multiple regression analysis and one-way ANOVA were used for statistical analysis by using SPSS 18.0. The results were as follows: 5 factors were extracted for channel assessment: utility, accuracy, risk, price benefit and sharing information. Price benefits, utility and sharing information for online channel tended to influence positively on the usage of online channel and online+offline channels. Accuracy and low perceived risk of offline influenced positively on offline and on+offline channel usages. The usage levels of on-line and off-line channels for cosmetics were significantly lower than the usage levels for clothes and accessories on information search, evaluation of alternatives, and purchase stages. Significant differences were also found in the usage levels of multi-channels (on+off-line) on information search and evaluation of alternatives stages. The usage levels of the multi-channels for clothes were the highest followed by those of accessories and cosmetics in order.

  • This study tests the effect of recommended product presentation on consumers' usage intentions of a website, mediated by mental simulation. Mental simulation refers to perceptual experience, a more automatic form of mental imagery, initiated by exposure to the representations of objects. This study expects that when compliments of clothes (coordination items) are vertically presented online, consumers are likely to feel as if they wear the outfits due to the activation of mental simulation. The survey was conducted on 147 women in an age group between 20 and 40 years in a panel of an online survey firm. Data are analyzed using exploratory factor analysis and bootstrapping analysis by SPSS 20.0. The results show that when compliments (vs. substitutes) of clothes are presented, participants perceive a greater mental simulation. When compliments of clothes are vertically presented (vs. horizontally presented), mental simulation is also highly driven. In addition, mental simulation mediates the effects of online product presentation on consumers' usage intentions of a website. The findings of this study contribute to marketing strategies of online retailers in terms of how product recommendation can be offered to consumers with more psychological benefits.

  • This survey was carried out on 256 smallholder farmers of the Jeonbuk Province to analyze their current behavior in pesticide usage and the use of protective clothing during spray work. The interviewees were at the age of about 50's in both males and females: they performed spray work mainly for their own farms. Many of them were not very well aware of the danger of pesticides and the adequate methods of pesticide handling. Water drinking and smoking during break time were the endangering factors of pesticide intoxication, reaching to 30-60% sprayers. Most of sprayers had experienced the exposures to pesticides during spray work and appealed some subjective clinical symptoms to the exposure, but they seldom sought medical treatments. More than 70% of respondents had not been wearing protective equipments during spray work. The results will be used as basic information in designing the improved protective clothing more acceptable by pesticide sprayers.
