The purpose of this study was 1) to identify gender differences in appearance management behavior and influencing variables(media involvement, body satisfaction and self-esteem), 2) the effects of influencing variables on appearance management behavior, and 3) to analyze the relationships among influencing variables. The data were collected ken 458 fifth and sixth grade girls and boys of five elementary schools ill Seoul, Korea via self-administered questionnaires, and were analyzed by factor analysis, t-test, and multiple regression analysis. The results of this study were as follows: Regarding the gender differences in research variables, preteen girls showed more interest in clothing/hair style management, weight management, TV involvement and celebrity imitation than preteen boys. Girls showed lower level of satisfaction than boys. Multiple regression analyses were conducted to identify the effects of media involvement, body satisfaction and self-esteem on appearance management behavior. For boy group, clothing/hair style interest was influenced by celebrity imitation, and weight management by TV involvement, body satisfaction and school self-esteem, and height management by celebrity management and school self-esteem. For girl group, clothing/hair style management was influenced by celebrity imitation and general self-esteem, and weight management by body satisfaction, general self-esteem, celebrity imitation and TV involvement, and height management by school self-esteem, TV involvement, time spent watching TV and general self-esteem. From the results of analyzing relationships among influencing variables, it was found that media involvement influenced self-esteem; TV involvement and celebrity imitation influenced school self-esteem; body satisfaction had the effect on all three sub dimensions of self-esteem in boy group. For female group, TV involvement had the effect on body satisfaction, and celebrity imitation on general self-esteem, the family self-esteem and school self-esteem, and body satisfaction on all three sub dimensions of self-esteem.
The degree of involvement was known to shape the types of decision- process behavior of consumers. The types of information search would be influenced according to the degree of involvement. The purpose of this study was to find out the fashion information sources used in clothing purchase, and to clarify the interrelationship of clothing involvement and information sources. The middle and high school girls in Seoul were the subjects of the study. The information sources were classified into three types; marketer-oriented, internal and personal sources. Fashion informations spreaded by mass media were the most diversely used by teens. Among fashion information sources, ‘my own thoughts and experiences’ was counted as the most important one. And ‘interior and display of the shop’ was more important than the other marketer-oriented informations. Clothing involvement in the aspect of pleasure/symbol showed meaningful correlation with the information of ‘street fashion’, but in the aspect of fashion consciousness, ‘fashion of movie stars and celebrities’was the most significant information source. It seemed that ‘fashion articles in the magazines’ was used to reduce perceived risk in clothing purchase.

This study focuses on clothing as one of the most seasonal products and investigates consumer behavior related to climate change adaptation. This study addressed four objectives: (1) to identify the clothing behavior of consumers for the adaptation to climate change; (2) to identify the effects of fashion involvement and climate sensitivity on clothing attitude for the adaptation to climate change; (3) to identify the effect of clothing purchase time on climate sensitivity and clothing attitude for the adaptation to climate change; and (4) to identify the effect of consumer demographics on climate sensitivity and clothing attitude for the adaptation to climate change. A survey questionnaire was developed and implemented to collect data for measuring clothing involvement, fashion involvement, and climate sensitivity. In addition, clothing involvement, clothing assortment needs, and clothing worn for the adaptation to climate change were measured. A total of 349 responses were analyzed by t-test, ANOVA and path analysis with SPSS18.0. The results of the analysis are as follows. Changes in temperature were considered more important than changes in weather for the functional needs of clothing, purchase needs, and assortment items needs. The assortment items wearing for the adaptation to climate change varied depending on the temperature and weather. Fashion involvement directly influenced clothing assortment needs and indirectly influenced the clothing worn for the adaptation to climate change. In terms of clothing purchase time, those purchasing clothing before the season begins, tended to have a high fashion involvement and clothing attitude for the adaptation to climate change. Those in their twenties and single, tended to be more sensitive to climate change. This study also discusses the implications for merchandising strategies.

In the tour activity group and social activity group, emotional involvement was found to be higher than the cognitive experience while in the hobby and sports activity group, both involvements were equally as high. 2) As a result of researching the difference between the leisure activities groups and clothing selection criteria, it was found that the intrinsic and extrinsic criteria were high in the hobby and sports activity group and that the intrinsic criteria was high in the tour activity group and social activity group. 3) In the difference between the leisure activity groups and fashion information sources, it was found that media source, observation source and experience/personal source were high in the hobby and sports activity group. This study took the conceptual framework of acculturation styles into the empirical investigation of international students in Korea. This research identifies the differences in acculturation styles, the characteristics of each segment, the effect of acculturation styles on clothing involvement (clothing involvement and risk probability), and the effect of cultural orientation values (individualism and collectivism) as covariates. The participants were international students attending a university located in Seoul. Data from 153 international students were used for statistical analysis. Respondents were grouped into four acculturation styles (integration, assimilation, separation, and marginalization). The assimilation group had the highest mean score of clothing interest. Cultural orientation values showed a significant covariate effect. With individualism as covariates, the main effect of acculturation styles on clothing interest was significant. In clothing product evaluation criteria, the integration group regarded design, fit and trend as most important. The marginalization group showed a mean score that was significantly lower in brand preference and satisfaction; however, the assimilation group had a mean score that was significantly higher.

The purposes of this article are segmenting consumers by brand attachment motives and discovering the differences among the segmented groups in relation to clothing involvement and clothing behavior (ready-to-wear satisfaction, brand loyalty, purchased items, and purchased places). The subjects of this study were male and female consumers, who were residents in Seoul, Korea. The data had been collected during May, 2007, and statistical analyses used for the study were factor analysis, cluster analysis, t-test, and chi-square test. The results showed that brand attachment motive is composed of two factors: brand personality/individuality expression and conformity/status improvement. Based on cluster analysis, there were two brand attachment motive groups: individuality expression and status improvement segments. T-test showed that brand attachment motive segments were significantly different in terms of clothing involvement and clothing behavior (ready-to-wear satisfaction, brand loyalty and purchased items). For example, the individuality expression group was more interested in clothing, was more satisfied with ready-to-wear clothing, had higher brand loyalty, and usually purchased casual wear. Meanwhile, the status improvement group had a higher perceived risk in clothing involvement, was less satisfied with ready-to-wear clothing, had a lower degree of brand loyalty, and preferred to purchase formal wear.
