터널배수재 필터의 폐색 및 수리적 특성에 관한 연구 (A Study on Clogging and Hydraulic Properties for Drain Filters of Tunnels)

  • Durability of tunnel drains is important, because the accumulation of groundwater around the tunnel due to clogging of filter or reduction of discharge capacity of drain causes reduction of the life time of tunnel linings. In this paper, clogging and discharge capacity of drain and filter of tunnels are evaluated using a gradient ratio test and filter design criteria. The results of the gradient ratio test showed that gradient ratio(GR) is high when fine content is high in the soil samples and equivalent opening size(EOS) of filter materials is small. Measured GR was less than allowable critical gradinet ratio : 3.0, which is the clogging criteria of U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

  • 연직배수재는 필터와 코어로 형성되며, 필터의 주요기능으로 첫째, 흙 입자의 유실을 방지할 수 있는 흙 보유성과 둘째, Clogging 또는 Blinding현상 발생 없이 간극수를 원활히 배출시키는 투수성을 갖추어야 한다. 상대적으로 투수성이 낮은 지반에서 미세입자로 인하여 필터의 투수성을 저하시키는 필터폐색(Clogging) 현상이 발생하는데 필터의 폐색현상(Clogging)이 점진적으로 증가하면, 간극수의 흐름을 저하시켜 결국 압밀지연을 초래한다. 지반-필터의 거동에 따른 설계(시방)기준은 토목섬유 필터의 간극크기와 흙의 입도의 상관관계에 의해 결정되어야 하나, 국내에서는 필터폐색(Clogging)현상과 지반-필터의 거동 분석 없이 필터재의 유효입경(AOS, Apparent Opening Size)만을 고려하여 필터의 설계(시방)기준을 일률적으로 적용하고 있다. 따라서, 본 연구에서는 3가지 종류의 연직배수재 필터를 대상으로 필터의 거동 및 필터폐색(Clogging)현상을 평가하고자 실내시험을 수행하였고, 이를 토대로 ${\bigcirc}{\bigcirc}$지역에서 연직배수재 필터의 설계(시방)기준을 선정하여 적용하였다.

Adhesion of clay to metal surface; Normal and tangential measurement

  • Adhesion in geotechnical engineering is the interaction between cohesive soil and a solid surface which can cause clogging in mechanized tunnelling through clayey formations. Normal piston pull out and modified direct shear tests were performed on clayey soil samples to determine which type of adhesion stress, normal or tangential, could be most effectively measured. Measured values for normal adhesion ranged from 0.9 to 18 kPa. The range of tangential adhesion was 2.4 to 10 kPa. The results indicate normal adhesion results were more accurate than those for the modified direct shear test that measure tangential adhesion. Direct shear test on identical samples did not show any correlation between measured cohesion and normal adhesion values. Normal adhesion values have shown significantly meaningful variation with consistency index and so are compatible with the base of field clogging assessment criteria. But tangential adhesion and cohesion were not compatible with these assessment criteria.

터널필터재의 폐색현상과 배수성능 평가 (Clogging Phenomenon and Drainage Capacity of Tunnel Filters)

  • 터널의 배수재로 이용되는 지오텍스타일 필터는, 터널 내로 유입되는 지하수를 충분히 배수시키어 터널 라이닝에 수압이 작용되지 않도록 해야 한다. 그러나, 지오텍스타일의 막힘현상으로 인하여 필터재의 통수 능력이 우선적으로 감소하게 되고 막힘현상은 이를 더욱 심각하게 만든다. 본 연구에서는 서울시의 신내동 과 포이동에서 채취한 시료에 대하여 터널 필터재의 평면흐름을 모사하여 폐색현상을 고찰하였다. 신내동 시료는 SW-SM으로 분류되는 사질토에 가까운 시료이며, 반면에 포이동 시료는 SC로 분류되고 점성이 강한 흙이다. 필터재의 이론적인 간극분포곡선과 $O_{95}$로부터 본 실험결과를 근거로 폐색방지기준을 설정하였다. 포이동 시료에 비하여 신내동 시료가 더 뚜렷한 폐색경향을 나타냄을 알 수 있었으며, 이는 포이동 시료에 비하여 점성이 없어 잔입자가 쉽게 이탈되고 필터재에 쌓이는 원인으로 판단되었다.

  • The mechanism of soil-geotextile system has been studied among researchers since the application of geotextile as a replacement of graded granular filters is rapidly growing. The interaction of soils with geotextile is rather complicated so that its design criteria are mostly based on empiricism. Hence, it is essential to study the characteristics of fine particles transport into geotextile induced by the groundwater flow In this study, the permeability reduction in the soil-filter system due to clogging phenomenon is evaluated. An extensive research program is performed using two typical weathered residual soils which are sampled at Shinnae-dong and Poi-dong area in Seoul. Two separate simulation tests with weathered residual soil are peformed: the one is the filtration test(cross-plane flow test): and the other is the drainage test(in-plane flow test). Needle punched non-woven geotextiles are selected since it is often used as a drainage material in the field. The compatibility of the soil-filter system is investigated with emphasis on the clogging phenomenon. The hydraulic behaviour of the soil-filter system is evaluated by changing several testing conditions.

해수가 슬러리 쉴드 TBM 공법 적용성에 미치는 영향 (Effect of seawater on the applicability of a slurry shield TBM)

  • 슬러리 쉴드 TBM (Slurry shield TBM) 공법에서 벤토나이트 슬러리의 침투와 필터 케이크의 형성 여부는 공법의 적용성에 영향을 미치는 중요한 요소이다. 그러나 벤토나이트 슬러리는 해수와 접촉하였을 때 팽윤성과 점도가 저하되어 공법에 대한 적용성을 확보하기 어렵다. 본 연구에서는 해수의 영향에 따른 슬러리 쉴드 TBM 공법의 적용성 변화를 평가하기 위해 슬러리의 해수 비율을 다르게 하여 주입 실험을 수행하였고 해수가 슬러리의 폐색 현상에 미치는 영향을 확인하였다. 그 결과, 해수의 비율이 0%에서 20%까지 증가할수록 폐색 효과에 의한 슬러리 쉴드 TBM 공법의 적용성을 나타내는 slurry clogging criteria (SCC)가 최대 67%까지도 감소하는 것을 확인하였다. 또한 슬러리의 물리적 성질이 동일함에도 지반 조건에 따라 SCC값이 공법 적용에 문제가 없는 수준에서 공법 적용을 위해 슬러리에 추가적인 처리를 요하는 수준으로 변화하는 것을 통해 슬러리 쉴드 TBM의 적용성을 평가할 때 슬러리의 특성뿐만 아니라 지반 조건에 대한 고려도 필요함을 입증하였다.

  • Various kinds of coals are supplied for coal fired power plants as the coal market situations are fluctuated with the high prices of oil and coals over the world. The quality of coal is decreasing as coal consumption increased and some specifications of coals are out of boiler design criteria. It could make combustion troubles such as coal clogging, spontaneous combustion, coal firing in the coal handling equipments, ash slag and clinker issues, etc. This paper covers combustion troubles, issues and countermeasures in the biggest coal fired power plant in Korea.

농촌지역의 효율적인 간이 상수처리에 관한 연구 (A Study on Efficient Simple Water Supply System in Rural Areas)

  • The purpose of this study was to establish acceptable criteria for the design of simple water treatment plant in rural areas. To develop efficient simple water treatment methods for rural areas, water quality in the study areas was investigated and rapid and slow filtrations in pilot-scale were tested under various conditions. The main results of this study are as follows. It was found that the water qualities of the study areas exceed the drinking water standards, which implies that some treatments are required in rural areas. Treatment efficiencies of both rapid sand and dual-media (sand and anthracite) filtration without pre-treatment such as flocculation and sedimentation are very low, which were turned out to be unadequate for the rural areas. Treatment efficiencies of both vertical and horizontal slow filtration without chlorination are very high for consumed $KMnO_4, NH_3-N, NO_3-N$, turbidity, and very low for coliform and bacteria. Treatment efficiencies of both vertical and horizontal slow filtration with chlorination are very high over the most pollutants. A slow filtration with chlorination is efficient for the rural areas. An adequate depth of sand layer is over 60 cm. A horizontal filtration is more economical than a vertical filtration. A horizontal filtration can be operated for a relatively long periods of time without sand washing or replacement because clogging is removed by simple back-washing.

연안재해 방지 및 비점오염원 유출저감을 위한 투수블록의 특성 연구 (Permeable Coastal Pavement Structure for Shore Protection and Removal of Non-point Source Pollutants)

  • Due to climate change, coastal areas are being flooded with torrential rain, typhoons, and tsunamis. In addition, non-point source pollutants (NPSs) that accumulated on the ground, streets, and buildings during the dry season are washed off by rain and stormwater runoff, which adds to the damage associated with environmental pollution, e.g., pollution that makes its way into the ocean. Recently, low impact development (LID) has been considered as a means of controlling water circulation and NPSs. In the coastal area, permeable blocks have been constructed mainly to reduce the flood damage caused by waves. Some important design factors that must be considered to ensure long-term performance are the permeability coefficient, clogging, and the efficiency of the removal of total suspended solids (TSS), but currently there are no standardized design criteria or testing techniques that are used worldwide. Herein, we analyzed the permeability coefficient and the TSS removal efficiency tendency according to the permeability area ratio with an easily-detachable, permeable block filled with calcinated yellow soils as the filter media. Our lab-scale tests indicated that, when the permeability area ratio was 25%, the reduction of the permeability coefficient after clogged was 11%, which was a significant decrease compared to other cases. Permeability persistence increased when the permeability area ratio increased from 50% to 75%. The TSS removal efficiency decreased as the permeability area ratio increased. Our pilot-scale test indicated that the TSS removal efficiency was more than 80% higher in all cases. We also found that the permeability persistence was excellent as the permeability area ratio increased, and, in actual construction, it is effective to set 5.3% of the total area as permeable area in terms of permeability and economic feasibility.

Development of Fishway Assessment Model based on the Fishway Structure, Hydrology and Biological Characteristics in Lotic Ecosystem

  • The main goal of this study is to develop a multi-metric fishway assessment model (Mm-FA) and evaluate the efficiency of fishway. The Mm-FA model has three major fishway components with nine metrics: structural characteristics, hydraulic/hydrologic features, and biological attributes. The model was developed for diagnosing and assessing fishway efficiency and tested to Juksan Weir at the Yeongsan River Watershed. Structural characteristics of fishway included slope of the fishway (M1), ratios of fishway width to stream width (M2), and the proportion of orifice clogging and orifice size (M3). Hydraulic/hydrologic characteristics included depth of fishway entrance head (M4), depth of exit tail (M5), and current velocity of inner fishway (M6). Biological characteristics included fish species ratio of inner fishway to upper-lower weir (M7), fish length distribution (M8), and the proportion of migratory fish species to the total number of species (M9). Overall, the assessment of fishway efficiency showed the total score of the Mm-FA model was 25 in the Juksan Weir, indicating "good condition" by the criteria of the five-level classification system. The Mm-FA model may be used as a key tool for the assessment of fishway efficiency, especially on the 16 weirs constructed for the "Four Rivers Restoration Project" after a partial calibration of Mm-FA model.
