  • The current GPS constellation consists of 32 Block IIA/IIR/IIR-M satellites including 12 Block IIA satellites on service over 15 years. The satellites in poor space conditions may suffer from anomalies, especially influenced by aging atomic clocks which are of importance positioning and timing. Recently, the IGS Ultra-rapid predicted products have not shown acceptably high quality prediction performance because the Block IIA cesium clocks may be easily affected by various factors such as temperature and environment. The anomalies of aging clocks involve lower performance of positioning in the GPS applications. We, thus, describe satellite clock behaviors and anomalies induced by aging clocks and their detection technologies to avoid such anomalies.

  • In this paper, we propose a simple technique for the detection of a frequency jump in the GPS clock behavior. GPS satellite atomic clocks have characteristics of a second order polynomial in the long term and a non-periodic frequency drift in the short term, showing a sudden frequency jump occasionally. As satellite clock anomalies influence on GPS measurements, it requires to develop a real time technique for the detection of the clock anomaly on the real-time GPS precise point positioning. The proposed technique is based on Teager energy which is mainly used in the field of various signal processing for the detection of a specific signal or symptom. Therefore, we employed the Teager energy for the detection of the jump phenomenon of GPS satellite atomic clocks, and it showed that the proposed clock anomaly detection strategy outperforms a conventional detection methodology.

  • The satellite clock anomalies, one of the abnormal signal factors of the GPS satellites, can have a significant impact on the GPS measurements. However, it can be difficult to detect the anomalies of the satellites clock before the range of the satellites clock error becomes bigger than the range of the other factors, due to the measurement including error of the orbit, ionosphere delay, troposphere delay, multipath and receiver clock. In order to perform quick and accurate detection by minimization of critical range in anomalies of the satellites clock, this paper suggested a solution to detect precise anomalies of the satellites clock after application of carrier smoothing filter from measurement by dual-frequency and adjustment of errors which can be occurred by other factor and the receiver clock errors. The performance of the proposed method was confirmed by comparing to the satellite clock biases which are provided by IGS.

  • In order to detect and identify the GPS clock anomaly in the Differential GPS real environment, this paper addresses a method for minimizing the measurement noise of reference receivers. It estimates the real measurement noise that removed the uncommon error source from pseudorange measurement to minimize the measurement noise. Based on the output of two reference receivers, it first removes the uncommon errors, then optimizes the measurement noise by applying the correction data. Finally, it detects and identifies the satellite clock anomaly using the minimized measurement noise. The method will increase the availability of current DGPS reference system.

  • In this study, a real-time architecture for the detection of clock jumps in the GPS clock behavior is proposed. GPS satellite atomic clocks have characteristics of a second order polynomial in the long term showing sudden jumps occasionally. As satellite clock anomalies influence on GPS measurements which could deliver wrong position information to users as a result, it is required to develop a real time technique for the detection of the clock anomalies especially on the real-time GPS applications such as aviation. The proposed strategy is based on Teager Energy operator, which can be immediately detect any changes in the satellite clock bias estimated from GPS carrier phase measurements. The verification results under numerous cases in the presence of clock jumps are demonstrated.

  • In this paper, GPS signal anomaly generation software is proposed which can be used for the analysis of GPS signal anomaly effect and the design, verification, and operation test of anomalous signal monitoring technique. For the implementation of anomalous signal generation technique, anomalous signals are generated using a commercial signal generation simulator, and their effects and characteristics are analyzed. An error model equation is proposed from the result of analysis, and the anomalous signal generation software is constructed based on this equation. The proposed anomalous signal generation software has high scalability so that users can easily utilize and apply, and is economical as the additional cost for purchasing equipment is not necessary. Also, it is capable of anomalous signal generation based on real-time signal by comparing with the commercial signal generation simulator.

  • Current differential GPS (DGPS) system consists of reference station (RS), integrity monitor (IM), and control station (CS). The RS computes the pseudorange corrections (PRC) and generates the RTCM messages for broadcasting. The IM receives the corrections from the RS broadcasting and verifies that the information is within tolerance. The CS performs realtime system status monitoring and control of the functional and performance parameters. The primary function of a DGPS integrity monitor is to verify the correction information and transmit feedback messages to the reference station. However, the current algorithms for integrity monitoring have the limitations of integrity monitor functions for satellite outage or anomalies. Therefore, this paper focuses on the detection and identification methods of satellite anomalies for maritime DGPS RSIM. Based on the function analysis of current DGPS RSIM, it first addresses the limitation of integrity monitoring functions for DGPS RSIM, and then proposes the detection and identification method of satellite anomalies. In addition, it simulates an actual GPS clock anomaly case using a GPS simulator to analyze the limitations of the integrity monitoring function. It presents the brief test results using the proposed methods for detection and identification of satellite anomalies.

  • Chronic duodenal obstruction related to a congenital web is a rare anomaly, and is sometimes difficult to diagnose preoperatively. A case of partial duodenal obstruction by a foreign body in a 10-year-old girl with a congenital duodenal web is presented. She had a year history of intermittent epigastric discomfort without nausea, vomiting or growth retardation. Upper gastrointestinal series and gastroduodenoscopy disclosed a perforated web in the 2nd portion of the duodenum and a dark go stone just proximal to the web. The web was partly excised through a longitudinal duodenotomy crossing over the web. The Ampulla of Vater was located at 7 o'clock on the posterior surface of the duodenal web and was preserved. The duodenum was closed in transverse fashion. In cases of a longstanding duodenal foreign body, a congenital web should be considered.
