Background: Clinical manifestations of diabetic peripheral neuropathy (DPN) vary along the course of nerve damage. Nerve conduction studies (NCS) have been suggested as a way to confirm diagnoses of DPN, but the results have limited utility for evaluating clinical phenotypes. The current perception threshold (CPT) is a complementary method for diagnosing DPN and assessing DPN symptoms. We compared NCS variables according to clinical phenotypes determined by CPT measurements. Methods: We retrospectively enrolled patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus who underwent both NCS and CPT tests using a neurometer. CPT grades were used to determine the clinical phenotypes of DPN: normoesthesia (0 to 1.66), hyperesthesia (1.67 to 6.62), and hypoesthesia/anesthesia (6.63 to 12.0). The Michigan Neuropathy Screening Instrument (MNSI) was used to determine a subjective symptom score. DPN was diagnosed based on both patient symptoms (MNSI score ${\geq}3$) and abnormal NCS results. Results: A total of 202 patients (117 men and 85 women) were included in the final analysis. The average age was 62.6 years, and 71 patients (35.1%) were diagnosed with DPN. The CPT variables correlated with MNSI scores and NCS variables in patients with diabetes. Linear regression analyses indicated that hypoesthesia was associated with significantly lower summed velocities and sural amplitudes and velocities, and higher summed latencies, than normoesthesia. Sural amplitude was significantly lower in patients with hyperesthesia than in patients with normoesthesia. Conclusion: NCS variables differed among patients with diabetes according to clinical phenotypes based on CPT and decreased sural nerve velocities was associated with hyperesthesia.

Purpose: This study was done in order to identify nursing students' professional self-concept, self-leadership and clinical competence and to analyze the correlation among the variables and the factors influencing clinical competence. Methods: The research participants were 294 senior nursing students in the nursing departments of 3 universities located in Jeollabuk-do. The students had completed 3 semesters of clinical practice. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficient, and Multiple Regression. Results: Participants' scores for professional self-concept, self-leadership, clinical competence were $2.78{\pm}0.36$, $3.63{\pm}0.47$, $3.80{\pm}0.40$ respectively. Professional self-concept, self-leadership and clinical competence had positive correlations. Factors influencing nursing students' clinical competence included professional self-concepts in professional practice, self-expectations in self-leadership, constructive thinking, self-compensation and self-criticism in that order, and these variables explained 48%of the variance in clinical competence. Conclusion: Based on these results, it is important to develop and apply educational programs to increase professional self-concept and self-leadership in order to improve nursing students' clinical competence.

There was a report that the prevalence of gallbladder polyps (GBPs) and some clinical variables were different between the urban and rural area, which was performed in a mainland. Thus the previous report could have some confounding factors. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to compare the prevalence of GBPs and clinical variables on the isolated island to exclude extrinsic confounding factors. We compared the prevalence of GBPs and clinical variables among 21,734 residents who visited a single medical check-up center in Jeju National University Hospital from January 2010 to December 2019 according to their residences on Jeju Island. The prevalence of GBPs were 10.1% in the urban area 8.7%, respectively (P = 0.006). Among clinical variables, the rate of central obesity, the mean levels of fasting blood glucose, low density lipoprotein-cholesterol, alkaline phosphate and gamma-glutamyltransferase and the mean age among residents in the rural area was statically higher in the urban area; however, the mean total cholesterol level among residents in the urban area significantly higher than in the rural area. This study showed that the prevalence of GBPs and some clinical variables among residents were statistically different between the urban area on Jeju Island.
Clinical research ultimately aimed to promptly diagnose and prevent diseases through precise biomarker development. Finding the optimal cut-off point of a regularly measured biomarker can help its interpretation and ultimately help in disease investigation and diagnosis, more specifically in determining the presence of diseases. Therefore, this study aimed to use the characteristics of outcome variables in clinical research to explain how to determine the optimal cutoff point. The outcome variables can be divided into dichotomous, ordinal, and survival types. The optimal cut-off point can be determined by finding points that maximize the Youden index, extended Youden index, and log-rank statistics. This study will enable clinical researchers to accurately determine the optimal cut-off points for regularly measured biomarkers, thereby enabling prompt disease diagnosis for effective treatment.
Purpose: This study was performed to provide basic educational data for improvement of satisfaction in clinical practice by investigating the relationship of clinical practice satisfaction with self-efficacy, fatigue and communication skill in dental hygiene students. Methods: A survey using a self-administered questionnaire was conducted among 205 second- and third-year students enrolled in an dental hygiene program at three colleges located in A and B province from March 10 to April 10, 2018. Results: Satisfaction level of clinical practice was significantly higher in the group more satisfied with their majors, with more healthy subjective health status, more satisfied with their interpersonal relationships, with a higher self-efficacy, with a lower fatigue, and with better communication skill. Clinical practice satisfaction had a significantly positive correlation with self-efficacy and communication skill and a significantly negative correlation with fatigue. Factors affecting clinical practice satisfaction in the subjects were communication skill, self-efficacy and fatigue. The total variance explained by all three variables was 20%. Conclusion: Further studies and development of education programs including a broad range of strategies for clinical training are warranted by reflecting those related variables to improve clinical practice satisfaction in dental hygiene students.
The purpose of this study were to examine clinical dietetic performance level and to determine factors affecting clinical dietetic performance level. The survery was carried out for the 33 general hospitals over 400 beds in Seoul We established 13 factors which amy affect clinical dietetic performance level and investigated the relationship between these factors and clinical dietetic performance level. The average score of performance and perception of importance levels of clinical dietetic practices were 46.0${\pm}$6.9 and 73.2${\pm}$4.8 respectively. None of the demographic variables were significantly correlated to clinical dietetic performance level. Clinical dietetic performance level depended upon whether dietetic department had a division or not for clinical dietetic activities.

The purpose of this study was to identify the relationship between self-esteem, self- efficacy and clinical practice performance, academic achievement, decision making of major field in clinical practice . The study subjects consisted with 244 students from G. junior nursing college that will adapt a new majoring program of clinical nursing practice funded by Ministry of human and resources development. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, and t-test, Pearson correlation, and multiple regression. The results of this study were summarized as follows: 1. The students were relatively performed well in clinical practice setting (total M :3.78). The item of student's personal relationship between patients, patient's family, and professional staff showed high score (M=3.96). However students did not feel comfortable to communicate with patients, patient's family and professional staffs in clinical setting(mean=3.56). 2. Students who had experiences of temporal absence from school showed significant difference in the variable of academic achievement and decision making of major field in clinical practice Students who entered to nursing school with self-motive revealed statistically significant difference in the variable of clinical practice performance, academic achievement, self-esteem, self-efficacy, and decision making of major field in clinical practice. 3. There was a significant correlation between self-esteem and clinical practice performance, (r=.512, p<.000). And the relation between self-esteem and decision making of major field in clinical practice was significantly correlated(r=.377, p<.000). Self-efficacy and clinical practice performance(r=.567, p<.000), and decision making of major field in clinical practice (r=.441, p<.000) showed significant correlations. Also relation between academic achievement and self-esteem reveled a significant correlation(r=.129, p<.05) but correlation between self-efficacy and academic achievement was not significant. 4. Correlation between clinical practice performance and decision making of major field in clinical practice also identified a significant relation(r=.498, p<.000). 5. Self-esteem and self-efficacy variables predicted clinical practice performance and explained 37.7% of clinical practice performance. 6. Aptitude and personal interests(m=4.07) reveled important factor affecting to select majoring area in clinical practice, and advice from parents reflected low percentage on selecting places(m=2.42). In conclusion, the variables of self-esteem and self-efficacy showed significant correlations with the variables of student's clinical practice performance, academic achievement, and decision making of major field in clinical practice. Thus it is recommended that student's affective domain of self-esteem and self-efficacy should be developed by nursing intervention before clinical nursing education.

Purpose: To investigate the influence of clinical and demographical variables on depression, instrumental activities of daily living (IADL), and cognitive function in patients with Parkinson's disease. Method: Using a structured questionnaire data were collected from 100 participants registered in the neurology department of C university hospital. Duration and stage of disease, fall history, vision impairment, duration and quality of sleep, orthostatic hypotension, ambulation impairment, and use of walking aid were included in clinical variables. Depression, IADL, and cognitive function were assessed using Kee's GDSSF-K, Cho's scale, and K-MMSE. Collected data were analyzed using the SAS program. Results: The depression score for the participants was 7.78, higher than cut-off score(5). Participants who were male, living with spouse, above high school education, high economic status, with no vision impairment, and no ambulation impairment revealed high cognitive scores. Average IADL score were significantly higher for participants who were male, who had high economic status, low stage of disease, and no ambulation impairment. Depression IADL & cognitive function scores were significantly different according to ambulation impairment. Scores for ADL and cognitive function were positively correlated. Conclusion: It is recommended that make programs for patients with Parkinson's disease, clinical and demographic variables should be considered according to their individual needs.

The level of satisfaction was measured by 5 Point rating scale(Likert-type). and level of significance were(t-test. F-test & X$^2$-test). -Results are as follow; 1. Level of satisfation according to the four variables ( class health. academic achievement, motives) revealed no significant difference. (P>.05). Hypothesis 1,2,3,4, are rejected. 2. Level of satisfaction according to the two variables (clinical instructor interpersonal relationship) revealed significant difference. (p<.01, p<.05), Hypothesis 5,6 are accepted. 3. Level of satisfaction of contents (mean score=3.02) revealed to be high.. 4. Level of satisfaction on guidance (mean Score=2.37), environment (mean score=2.59), hours (mean score=2.72) and evaluation (mean score=2.50) revealed to be low. 5. Level of satisfaction revealed to be low. (total mean satisfaction score =2.64).
Benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV) is one of the most common clinical entities encountered in a dizziness clinic. Treatment of this disease, canalith repositioning procedures, have been reported to be successful in 44-90%. Treatment requires only one treatment visit in most patients. However, there are significant numbers of patients who require multiple treatment visits for relief. The goal of this study is to identify variables that may be associated with these difficult to treat cases. Retrospective review was performed for the patients diagnosed as BPPV at St. Carollo dizziness center. Variables for statistical analysis included age, sex, involved canal, presence of bilateral disease, presence of recent head trauma, presence of chronic otitis media, history of middle ear surgery, history of otologic surgery, unilateral vestibular loss, underlying disease such as hypertension or diabetes, change of involved canal during treatment course and number of treatment visits. Two hundred patients with BPPV who received treatment were identified from JAN. 2006 to JUN. 2007. 87% required one treatment visit, 5% required second treatment visit, and 95% were successfully treated after three treatment visits. Variables such as bilateral disease, post-traumatic BPPV, duration of symptom before treatment and change of involved canal during treatment were significantly related with number of treatments. Patient's with bilateral BPPV or with recent head trauma or longer duration of symptom are more likely to require multiple visits for canalith repositioning.
