Herniated lumbar intervertebral disc(H.I.V.D) is the most common reason causing low back pain and leg radiating pain. Objective : The purpose of this report is to observe the effects of oriental medical conservative treatment in the different herniated type. Methods : We investigated 30 patients suffering from low back pain with sciatica which were admitted to Taejon Cheonan O. M. hospital from Nov 1, 2000 to Apr 30, 2001. 30 patients had a diagnosis of herniated lumbar interver tebral disc by Lumbar-C.T and Lumbar-M.R.I. we treated 30 patients by oriental medical conservative treatment (Ex: acupuncture, herb-med, physical theraphy, bed-rest, etc.) Results : 1. The mean hospitalization of patients was 21.1 days. that in the bulging type was l4days, protruded type 21days, mixed type 27days, extruded type 30days. that shows the less herniation of lumbar intervertebral disc, the mean hospitalization was more short. 2. In the distribution of the clinical symptoms admitted at that time, low back pain, leg radiating pain were showed in the all types(29patients, 96.6%). and sensory disorder, muscle powerlessness were showed least in the bulg ing type(0%, 37.5%), but that were showed most in the extruded type(50%,75%). 3. In the result of treatment due to clinical syptoms, bulging type was more execellent than any other other types. 4. The less herniation of lumbar intervertebral disc, angle of straight leg raising test was higher. In the result of treatment due to angle of straight leg raising test, bulging type was more execellent than any other other types. 5. In the distribution of physical. test, positive case in the Peyton sign, Ankle Dorsiflexion were showed least in the bulging type(25%, 12.5%), but that were showed most in the extruded type(100%, 75%). 6. In the result of treatment due to physical.test, bulging type was more exec ellent than any other other types. 7. The efficacy of total treatment was 90%(when we set a standard things more than fair), that in the bulging type was 100%, protruded 92%, mixedtype 80%, extruded type 75%. Bulging type had a more remakable effectsthan any other types. Conclusions : The less herniation of lumbar intervertebral disc, clinical syptoms were slighter, physical. test were better, and efficacy of oriental medical conservative treatme nt was remakable high.

Objective : This case report show the effect of Dahuanghuanglianxiexin-tang on VulvoVaginal Candidiasis. Methods : According to disease pattern identification diagnostic system based on shanghanlun provisions, The author diagnosed Taeyang-byung kyeolhyung. The symptoms of VulvoVaginal Candidiasis were worsen when the patient had long sitting position and digestive problems. Therefore the patient treated with Dahuanghuanglianxiexin-tang for 3 months. The severity of Candida Vaginitis was evaluated by patient's subjective statements(Vaginal pruritus, Vaginal secretion, Burning sensation). Results : After the treatment, Level of syptoms decreased from Severe to Trace and Eliminated. Conclusions : Dahuanghuanglianxiexin-tang improved the symptoms of VulvoVaginal Candidiasis on this study. Although Dahuanghuanglianxiexin-tang is not an usual treatment for VulvoVaginal Candidiasis, the author could prescribe the medicine due to shanghanlun six meridian patterns diagnostic system.

The purpose of this study was to examine the anatomic changes in the upper airway with a dental orthosis. the effectiveness and side effects of orthosis in the treatment of snoring and obstructive sleep apnea. To meet this puppose a dental orthosis, designed to increase the size of the upper airway by advancing the mandible, was used in 42 patients (30 M, 12 F), aged 29 - 69 years, to treat snoring and varying decrees of obstructive sleep apnea. Cephalometric study of anatomic featured was made with and without a dental orthosis, and the evaluation of the effectiveness and side effects of orthosis was done by questionnaires. The obtained results were as follows : 1. All subjects were habitual snorers and 32 patients comp1ained the loudness of snoring as severe as be heard outside of the patient's room. 2. According to the degree of respiratory distirbance index(RDI) and aprea index(Al) from the polysomnograph in 34 patient, mild obstructive sleep apnea patients were 5, moderate 6 and severe 16. 3. Various anatomic changes in the upper airway with denta1 orthosis were as follows : (1) More superioly positioned hyoid bone ( p<0.001) (2) Enlarged oropharyngeal (superior p<0.01, middle p<0.01. inferior p<0.01) and hypopharyngeal (P<0.05) airway space. 4. According to the results of the changes of clinical syptoms after the usage of the dental orthosis acquired from questionnaires, there was significant improvement in the frequently, the loudness and the severity of snoring, cessation of breathing and awakening from the difficulty of breathing during sleep. 5. The effectiveness and side effects of dental orthosis by questionnaires were as follows ; (1) Dental orthosis satisfied almost all the patients (68±20%). (2) Snoring was improved in all the patients (73±19%). (3) Obstructive sleep aphea was improved in all the patients (61 ± 37%) (4) Sleepiness in the daytime was significantly improved (61 ±37%). (5) The sleep quality was significantly improved (61±37%). (6) The discomfort of the dental orthosis was minor (33±18%) and no serious complications were observed. 6. The dental orthosis is an effective treatment for the symptom of snoring, and it can also effectively treat varying degrees of obstructive sleep apnea.
