  • This paper suggests 6 cases of TFA parameters algorithm(Mean, VA, RS, SKEW, UN, EN) to search for the detection of recognition rates regarding breast disease using CAD on ultrasound images. Of the patients who visited a university hospital in Busan city from August 2013 to January 2014, 90 cases of breast ultrasound images based on the findings in breast US and pathology were selected. $50{\times}50$ pixel size ROI was selected from the breast US images. After pre-processing histogram equalization of the acquired test images(negative, benign, malignancy), we calculated results of TFA algorithm using MATLAB. As a result, in the TFA parameters suggested, the disease recognition rates for negative and malignancy was as high as 100%, and negative and benign was approximately 83~96% for the Mean, SKEW, UN, and EN. Therefore, there is the possibility of auto diagnosis as a pre-processing step for a screening test on breast disease. A additional study of the suggested algorithm and the responsibility and reproducibility for various clinical cases will determine the practical CAD and it might be possible to apply this technique to range of ultrasound images.

  • Type II membranoproliferative glomerulonephritis (Dense deposit disease) is an acquired primary glomerular disease characterized by electron microscopic evidence of a continuous dense membrane deposition replacing the lamina densa. It is a subtype of idiopathic membra- noproliferative glomerulonephritis, and was described as a separate entity by Berger and Galle in 1963. It frequently occurs in older chilren and young adults and the clinical course is variable, but is generally progressive. The presenting feature is nephrotic syndrome in many patients, and proteinuria and hematuria are also seen frequently. The purpose of this paper is to present a case of DDD (Dense deposit disease) from a 10 year old boy who was diagnosed as a acute poststreptococcal glomurulonephritis with protenuria, hematuria, and facial edema by renal biopsy 4 years ago. • Cirrhosis is a consequence of chronic liver disease characterized by replacement of liver tissue by fibrosis, scar tissue and regenerative nodules leading to loss of liver function. Liver Cirrhosis is most commonly caused by alcoholism, hepatitis B and C, and fatty liver disease, but has many other possible causes. Some cases are idiopathic disease from unknown cause. Abdomen of liver Computed tomography(CT) is one of the primary imaging procedures for evaluating liver disease such as liver cirrhosis, Alcoholic liver disease(ALD), cancer, and interval changes because it is economical and easy to use. The purpose of this study is to detect technique for computer-aided diagnosis(CAD) to identify liver cirrhosis in abdomen CT. We experimented on the principal components analysis(PCA) algorithm in the other method and suggested texture information analysis(TIA). Forty clinical cases involving a total of 634 CT sectional images were used in this study. Liver cirrhosis was detected by PCA method(detection rate of 35%), and by TIA methods(detection rate of 100%-AGI, TM, MU, EN). Our present results show that our method can be regarded as a technique for CAD systems to detect liver cirrhosis in CT liver images.

  • Objectives: In this study, we investigated the 4-week repeated-dose oral toxicity of gami-jakyak gamcho buja decoction (Mecasin) to develop safe treatments. Methods: In order to investigate the 4-week oral toxicity of Mecasin, we administered Mecasin orally to rats. Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats were divided into four groups of five male and five female animals per group: group 1 being the control group and groups 2, 3, and 4 being the experimental groups. Doses of Mecasin of 500, 1,000, and 2,000 mg/kg of body weight were administered to the experimental groups, and a dose of normal saline solution of 10 mL/kg was administered to the control group. We examined the survival rate, weight, clinical signs, and gross findings for four weeks. This study was conducted under the approval of the Institutional Animal Ethics Committee. Results: No deaths occurred in any of the four groups. No significant changes in weights or food consumption between the control group and the experimental groups were observed. Serum biochemistry revealed that some groups showed significant decrease in inorganic phosphorus (IP) (P < 0.05). During necropsy on the rats, one abnormal macroscopic feature, a slight loss of fur, was observed in the mid dosage (1,000 mg/kg) male group. No abnormalities were observed in any other rats. In histopathological findings, the tubular basophilia and cast of the kidney and extramedullary hematopoiesis of the spleen were found. However, those changes were minimal and had occurred naturally or sporadically. No other organ abnormalities were observed. Conclusion: During this 4-week, repeated, oral toxicity test of Mecasin in SD rats, no toxicity changes due to Mecasin were observed in any of the male or the female rats in the high dosage group. Thus, we suggest that the doses in a 13-week, repeated test should be 0, 500, 1,000, and 2,000 mg/kg respectively.

  • The purpose of the present study was to examine the mediating effect of self-concealment on the relationship between self-critical perfectionism and disordered eating behavior. Toward this aim, 348 participants responded to the measures of self-critical perfectionism, self-concealment and disordered eating behavior. Correlation analysis revealed that self-critical perfectionism was positively correlated with self-concealment and disordered eating behavior. In addition, self-concealment was positively correlated with disordered eating behavior. Structural equations analysis found that the relationship between self-critical perfectionism and disordered eating behavior had a significant partial mediating effect on self-concealment, meaning that self-critical perfectionism increased disordered eating behavior through high levels of self-concealment. This finding suggests that individuals who place high standards on themselves, and feature fear of negative evaluation from others, are at greater risk for disordered eating behavior. Based on this finding, we discussed suggestions for future research and clinical implications.

  • Digital Mammography is an efficient imaging technique for the detection and diagnosis of breast pathological disorders. Six mammographic criteria such as number of cluster, number, size, extent and morphologic shape of microcalcification, and presence of mass, were reviewed and correlation with pathologic diagnosis were evaluated. It is very important to find breast cancer early when treatment can reduce deaths from breast cancer and breast incision. In screening breast cancer, mammography is typically used to view the internal organization. Clusterig microcalcifications on mammography represent an important feature of breast mass, especially that of intraductal carcinoma. Because microcalcification has high correlation with breast cancer, a cluster of a microcalcification can be very helpful for the clinical doctor to predict breast cancer. For this study, three steps of quantitative evaluation are proposed : DoG filter, adaptive thresholding, Expectation maximization. Through the proposed algorithm, each cluster in the distribution of microcalcification was able to measure the number calcification and length of cluster also can be used to automatically diagnose breast cancer as indicators of the primary diagnosis.

  • The present study aimed to examine the effects of topical application of alendronate with a collagen membrane on the healing of the calvarial defect in rats, which has a good experimental design for the healing of tissue destruction, To study the effect of alendronate on bone healing, the collagen membrane containing $200{\mu}g$ alendronate was inserted in the defects of the right side and collagen membrane treated with physiologic saline was inserted in the defects of the left side. After 1, 2 and 4 weeks, observation of histologic feature after H&E staining, cell counting after TRAP staining, and hardness measurement(Knoop) were performed. In histologic finding, similar features were shown for both test and control groups each week. In cell counting only the 1 week test groups showed significant reduction of TRAP(+)cells than control groups(p<0.01) and the control groups showed statistically significant difference for 1, 2, 4weeks(p<0.05). In hardness measurement, The 2 week test groups showed significant higher hardness than control groups.(p<0,05) and not 4 weeks. There was significant increase of hardness for both groups as time goes by.(p<0.0l) Therefore local application of alendronate with collagen membrane was somewhat effective in reducing osteoclastic activity and increasing hardness in the early stage of healing. Further investigation concerning the actual effect of alendronate for bony healing will be necessary to apply the clinical cases
