The purpose of this descriptive study was to identify problems and solving strategies on student evaluation of clinical nursing education. Subjects were 239 nurses in 18 hospitals from February to July, 1999. Content analysis using qualitative research method was used to analyze data taking into account the semi-structured questionnaire. The results of this study were as follows: Four categories about problems and solving strategies on the evaluation of clinical nursing education were identified: 'The environment of the clinical nursing education'; 'contents and items of evaluation tool'; 'criteria of evaluation tool'; and 'problems with evaluators in clinical settings'. The problems of the environment of the clinical nursing education were due to the lack of co-ordination between nursing schools and hospitals. In order to solve these problems, the following strategies were suggested: 'initiate a joint meeting between nursing schools and hospitals'; 'do not change the clinical settings frequently'; 'evaluate students after being familiar with them'; and 'evaluate them immediately after clinical practice was ended'. In the problems of contents and items of the evaluation tool, the contents of the tool were very abstract and general. The strategies for treating these problems were to evaluate student using the concrete evaluation items'; refrain from evaluation of nursing knowledge', develop the evaluation tools that are fit for a specific clinical setting'; develop the evaluation tools in line with students' knowledge level; and 'carry out evaluation using the proper contents of tool. The problems of criteria of the evaluation tools were the results of the lack of the clear criteria. The strategies for treating these problems were 'develop the criteria of the evaluation tool'; simplify the range of the cores or evaluate students using check-list'; to evaluate students in objective manner'. The problem of evaluators in clinical settings was due to the failure by evaluators who were not prepared for the task. The strategies were 'to educate and prepare the evaluators before evaluation'.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to development and measure validity and reliability of evaluation tool for clinical nursing practice competency of Nursing students. Method: The participants in this study were 568 nurses who had worked for more than three years above in hospitals. A questionnaire of 79 items was administered to the nurses using a convenience sampling method. The data were collected from Sep. 12th, to Oct. 20th, 2004. Result: The derived outcome tool consisted of 6 factors of direct nursing actions and 6 factors of indirect nursing actions on the basis of 79 items. The 6 factors in direct nursing actions accounted for 76.84% of the variance and 6 factors in indirect nursing actions accounted for 79.68% of the variance on total scale. As a result of the item analysis, 79 items were selected and the internal consistency alpha coefficient was .9917. The value of Cronbach' alpha of direct nursing actions was .9640, indirect nursing actions was .9550. Conclusion: The results of this study show that useful application to the evaluation tool of clinical practice competency of Nursing students and further studies need to be done to verify clinical practice educational evaluation.
This study is intended to develop a reliable and appropriate instrument of the clinical nursing education. This research consisted of 4 steps. First step is construction of the content validity by 1 Korean literature professor and 1 teaching professor in Ga Chon Gil College, the pilot study for the content validity by 14 professors and survey with four points Likert Scale, which includes from the point 'strongly valid' to the point of 'strongly non-valid', by 113 head nurses who guide and evaluate the students in clinical practice. The third step is the test of validity and reliability of the preliminary evaluation tool. The fourth step is the test of validity and reliability of the developmental evaluation tool. The data were collected from Sep. 10th, 2001 to Sep. 28th, 2001. This study was analyzed by SPSS PC+ for descriptive statistics, factor analysis and Cronbach's Co-efficient Alpha of the collected data. The results of these analysis are like as follows. 1. Evaluation tool of Clinical practice consists of 16 items including four categories : factor 1 was labeled 'desirable attitude'(5 items), factor 2 was labeled 'correctly judgement and nursing problem solving'(4 items), factor 3 was labeled 'adaptive ability of nursing knowledge and skill'(4 items), factor 4 was labeled 'desirable human relationship'(3 items) and these contributed 71.992% of the variance in the total score. 2. Cronbach's Co-efficient Alpha for internal consistency was .9128 for the total 16 items. For further research, it need to develop a variable and reliable instrument of the student self-evaluation and instrument that based on community.
This study is intended to develop a reliable and approproate instrument of the clinical nursing education. This research consisted of 4 step. First step is contruction of the content for evaluation. Second step have the research of the content validity by 10 professors in Department of Nursing, H University, the pilot study for the content validity by 20 professors and clinical preceptors, and the survey with four point Likert Scale, which includes from the point of 'strongly valid' to the point of 'strongly non-valid' by 250 professor and clinical preceptor. The data were collected form March 1998 to July 1998. This study was analyzed by Cronbach's for the reliability and the factor analyisis for the validity of the collected data. The third step showed the final evaluation instrument of clinical nursing education which consists a couple of tool. One is the evaluation instrument of clinical nursing which includes the 20 items, the other is the evaluation instrument for case study which includes the 15 items. The fourth step is the test of reliability and validity of the final evaluation too. The results from these step's study showed the higher reliability and validity. Respectly, Cronbach's revealed the evaluation instrument of clinical nursing and case study is Cronbach's $\alpha$=.92413, Cronbach's $\alpha$=.95602. For further research, it needs to develop a reliable and variable instrument of the students self-evaluation and community based instrument.
To meet standards for high quality of care and satisfied customers, an evaluation tool about nursing care is necessary. And, We need to evaluate our practice continuously for the improvement in quality and outcomes. This study was intended to develop an evaluation tool about nursing care in NSICU, and was progressed of 3 steps; development, content validity verification and reliability verification. Data were obtained and analysed from Feb. To April, 2000. Development process of the study was as follows A preliminary list was made item by item on the basis of clinical Experience, literature review and patients' record review. Then the standards, criteria and indicators of preliminary evaluation tool were set by 5 clinical nursing panel, and their content validity was reviewed by 27 ICU nurses. Finally, an evaluation tool was developed and verified the reliability at c-university hospital located in Kwang-Ju. The results of this was as follows 1) The evaluation tool of this study developed 8 standards, 39 criterias and 106 indicators. The standards were divided into two dimensions. One was process dimension which contained 4 standards(26 criteria), The other was outcome dimension which contained 4 standards(13 criteria). 2) the Average content validity of the tool was 3.39 at standards, 3.55 at criteria and 3.51 at indicators. 3) Interrater reliability of the tool is r=.7993(p<.001) & internal consistency reliability ${\alpha}$ is .6031 4) Scores of NSICU Patients who participated in this study were 57 at total mean score, 58 at process mean score and 56 at outcome mean score The evaluation tool developed in this study seems to be useful in evaluation nursing practice appropriately for the improvement of nursing care in NSICU. I hope that this evaluation tool can be used effectively in NSICU as an intervention for the improvement of quality control.
Purpose: This study was designed to evaluate ICU nurses' clinical competence according to clinical ladder by job analysis tool for the evaluation tool development of clinical ladder development program, Methods: Data was collected using the ICU nurses job analysis tool from 148 ICU nurses who work for 6 ICUs of A hospital in S city, Results: The mean clinical competence score of the subjects was 3.03 on a 4 point scale, Competence score was increasing as ICU clinical ladder was higher (F=35.18, p<.001). Step_1 was the lowest and step_4 was higher than step_3 from Scheffe post hoc test, Result of multiple regression showed that ICU clinical ladder and ICU clinical nursing education explained 52.1% (F=38.83, p<.001) of ICU nurse's clinical competence. Conclusion: ICU nurses' clinical competence can be evaluated using ICU nurse's job analysis tool. Further researches is needed on job description according to clinical ladder for performance and evaluation.
Purpose : The purpose of this study was to develop a core competency evaluation tool of the preceptors training new graduate nurses and to determine the validity of the developed instrument. Method : This study was conducted in 2 phases. In phase I, preceptor's core competency list was developed through literature review, focus group interview, and review by nursing directors and nurse managers. In phase II, 60 preceptors were evaluated with the developed instrument and categorized into excellent, good & poor core competency groups. For validation of the instrument, new graduates' clinical performance improvement and satisfaction with preceptor were compared between excellent and poor group. Result : The data were analyzed by SPSS P.C and the results were as follows. 1) Preceptor's core competencies were classified into three domains; Role model(10 items), Socialization facilitator(8 items), and Educator(16 items), and each item had four point system of "strongly agree" to "strongly disagree". Cronbach'${\alpha}$ of the instrument was.9416. 2) Comparison of clinical performance improvement and satisfaction with preceptor of the new graduates trained by excellent and poor preceptors revealed that new graduates' clinical performance improvement(p=.015) and satisfaction with the preceptor(p=.005) were significantly higher in the excellent core competency preceptor group than the poor core competency preceptor group. Conclusion : The validity of the preceptor's core competency evaluation tool developed in this study was confirmed. Therefore, this tool can be effectively utilized for education and evaluation of new graduates' preceptors in clinical settings.
The main purpose of this study were; to determine the reliability and validity of evaluation tool administered to the nursing student in nursing management practice,;to identify the effective evaluation method of nursing student in nursing management practice. The subjects were 46 senior nursing students at Department of Nursing, College of Medicine, Seoul National University in 1983. The evaluation tool was analyzed according to evaluation method; self-evaluation. and head nurse evaluation. Also individual item of evaluation tool was analyzed by item analysis in order to determine the evaluation area, and appropriateness of the test item used. A Summary of the results is as follows; 1. The reliability and validity of evaluation tool were relatively high both in self-evaluation and head nurse evaluation. 2. In comparison of mean scores, there is no significant difference between head nurse evaluation and self-evaluation. 3. The nursing management activities which have the correlation of self-evaluation and head nurse evaluation were in the activity of interpersonal relation, independent activity and implementing nursing process. In general nursing practice and unit management activity, there was no correlation of self-evaluation and head nurse evaluation.
Purpose: This study was aimed to develop a tool for evaluating nurses' performance by using Balanced Score Card (BSC) in hospital units. Methods: Preliminary survey was done in 10 hospitals to investigate evaluation criteria for nurses' performance. For the main study, each of 14 nursing managers evaluated 2 nursing units (total of 28 nursing units) to verify the sensitivity of the tool criteria. The evaluation result drawn from the preliminary BSC tool was analyzed to verify the sensitivity and validity of the tool. Results: As a result, nurses' performance evaluation tool consisted of 4 categories, 8 objectives, and 14 criteria was developed. Conclusion: The BSC tool for nurses' performance evaluation provides meaningful data in evaluating nursing performance in hospital units.
Since Traditional Korean medicine (TKM) doctors use various knowledge systems during treatment, diagnosis results may differ for each TKM doctor. However, it is difficult to explain all the reasons for the diagnosis because TKM doctors use both explicit and implicit knowledge. In this study, an upgraded random forest (RF)-based evaluation tool was proposed to extract clinical knowledge of TKM doctors. Also, it was confirmed to what extent the professor's clinical knowledge was delivered to the trainees by using the evaluation tool. The data used to construct the evaluation tool were targeted at 106 people who visited the Sasang Constitutional Department at Kyung Hee University Korean Medicine Hospital at Gangdong. For explicit knowledge extraction, four TKM doctors were asked to express the importance of symptoms as scores. In addition, for implicit knowledge extraction, importance score was confirmed in the RF model that learned the patient's symptoms and the TKM doctor's constitutional determination results. In order to confirm the delivery of clinical knowledge, the similarity of symptoms that professors and trainees consider important when discriminating constitution was calculated using the Jaccard coefficient. As a result of the study, our proposed tool was able to successfully evaluate the clinical knowledge of TKM doctors. Also, it was confirmed that the professor's clinical knowledge was delivered to the trainee. Our tool can be used in various fields such as providing feedback on treatment, education of training TKM doctors, and development of AI in TKM.
