Objectives: This study was aimed to review the effect of acupuncture for insomnia in climacteric syndrome. Methods: Researchers searched data through 5 online databases up to December 2021. The data was limited to randomized controlled trial studies on patients diagnosed with insomnia in climacteric syndrome. Results: 8 Randomized controlled trials were included in this study. 6 of studies were published in Chinese, in China. 2 were published in English. Intervention of treatment group were composed of simple acupuncture. Intervention of control group were made up with Estazolam, Alprazolam, Lorazepam and sham-acupuncture. Outcome measurements were Total effective rate, Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI), Kupperman index, Menopause Quality of Life scales (Men-QoL), the level of hormones (E2, FSH, LH) etc. In all outcome measurements, treatment group were more effective than control group and it was statistically significant. Conclusions: Acupunture therapy is effective for treating insomnia in climacteric syndrome. Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) is most frequently used for sleep assessment indicator. 神門 (HT7) is the most frequently used acupoint for treatment group. However because insomnia in climacteric syndrome is easy to recur, additional long-term research is needed.
Objectives: This study aimed to identify the current use and investigate the clinical practice of Korean Medicine for climacteric syndrome and postmenopausal syndrome outpatients. Methods: We studied climactic syndrome and postmenopausal syndrome outpatients who visited Daejeon Korean Medicine Hospital of Daejeon University from January 1, 2019 to December 31, 2021 via an analysis of the medical records. Results: 130 patients were finally selected. Their average age was 51.91±4.57 years and the average number of visits was 7.51±11.40 times. Patients usually complained two or more addresses, and the most frequent symptoms were hot flushes. 126 patients took herbal medicines and 99 of them took herbal decoctions. 106 patients were treated by acupuncture. 58 patients were treated by pharmacopuncture and Hominis Placenta was used to 50 subjects. As for the improvement rate by symptoms, hot flushes were the highest at 65.5%. We compared the improvement rate of groups taking Guibi-tang-gami A and Guibi-tang-gami B, the common herbal decoction of Daejeon Korean Medicine Hospital of Daejeon University. In the group of Guibi-tang-gami A, the improvement rate of hot flushes was the highest and in the other, vaginal dryness was the highest. Urinary frequency of the group with Hominis Placenta pharmacopuncture showed more than three times higher improvement rate of the non-executive group. Conclusions: We analyzed general characteristics, clinical characteristics, types of Korean medicine treatment, improvement rates by symptoms of 130 outpatients diagnosed with climactic syndrome and postmenopausal syndrome. This study could be used as reference to provide practical data of outpatient treatment for Climacteric Syndrome and Postmenopausal Syndrome.
Objectives: The purpose of this health promotion project for Korean medicine is to promote the health of climacteric women in Boeun-gun. Methods: During the project, pressure needle acupuncture treatment, herbal medicine treatment, meditation pore therapy, and health education were conducted. To evaluate the results, basic health surveys (body height, body composition test, blood pressure etc.), female hormone tests, Kupperman's index (KI), Menopause-specific quality of life questionnaire (MENQOL), and Perceived stress scales (PSS) were conducted. Results: No significant change was observed in the body composition test and blood pressure after the project. Follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) was significantly increased after the project, but Luteinizing Hormone (LH) and total estrogen levels were not significantly changed. KI and MENQOL scores significantly decreased after the project, and significantly decreased in 4 out of 11 items of KI and 3 out of 4 domains of MEMQOL. No significant change was observed in the PSS score after the project. Conclusions: From the results of this project, it can be seen that the Korean medicine health promotion project can help alleviate symptoms of climacteric syndrome and postmenopausal syndrome.
Objectives: The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effects of Gamiguibi-hwan on Climacteric Syndrome. Method: We treated 50 cases menopausal disorder patients with Gamiguibi-hwan for 12 weeks. We estimated the effects by Menopause Rating Scale (MRS), Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) and Beck's Depression Inventory II (BDI-II). Results: After treatment, the mean of MRS, PSQI and BDI-II score were decreased. Conclusions: This case shows that Gamiguibi-hwan is effective in treating menopausal disorder patients.
Purpose: The purpose of this study is to analyze the characteristics of the pulse energy in women who complain of climacteric and menopausal symptoms. Methods: We analyzed the values of pulse energy on 45 climacteric and menopausal women. The patients' symptoms were assessed by Kupperman's index and Menopause Rating Scale (MRS). Statistical analysis was performed using SPSS 18.0 for window program, one way ANOVA, pearson correlation coefficient. Results: The results were as follows. 1. The pulse energy of the Left Chon was significantly largest and Left Cheok was comparatively smallest. 2. There was no statistically significant correlation in the pulse energy of Left Chon minus Left Cheok, Kupperman's index, MRS total sum score. Conclusions: The results suggest that the pulse energy of the Left Chon tends to be increased and Left Cheok decreased in climacteric and menopausal women.
Objectives: The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effects of Korean traditional treatments for Climacteric Syndrome Patients with Hwa-Byung. Objective : To investigate the usage of Korean herbal medicine (KHM) for climacteric symptoms, this study reviewed clinical studies conducted in Korea. Method : Literature search was performed on three Korean database; OASIS, RISS and NDSL. Studies published before July 2023 were categorized and analyzed according to the study type and herbal prescriptions. Results : Fifty-eight studies including 7 controlled trial, 27 case series and 24 single case reports were included in our review and the total number of case patients was 420. 52 prescriptions based on syndrome identifications and 11 prescriptions of Sasang constitutions were used and the most frequently used prescriptions were Soyosan(逍遙散) and Guibitang(歸脾湯). Thirty-two prescriptions were also mentioned in previous delphi research or clinical practice guideline, and the rest were not. Thirty-five studies used acupuncture combined with KHM and 10 studies used pharmacopuncture and 5 studies used herbal hipbath. Conclusion : To increase the therapeutic effect of KHM and establish KHM as an alternative to hormone treatment, various prescriptions should be used according to syndrome identifications in the clinical field. High-quality RCTs on frequently used prescriptions and the development of various type of KHM are also necessary.
Objectives: The purpose of this study is to analyze the correlation between the pulse energy and hot flush in women who complain of climacteric syndrome.
