Ultrasonic cleaning at high frequency near 1MHz, called megasonic cleaning, is commonly used to remove particles less than 1.mu.m by generating accelerations on them. Ultrasonic waves generated from piezoelectric transducers are transmitted through a non-metallic inner container which is used to isolate a cleaning object from metallic ions. The transmission characteristics of a double-structured megasonic cleaner on the variations of parameters such as the thickness and oblique angle of a inner container, chemical ratio of a cleaning agent and temperature and transmittivity are investigated. The results are used to determine an optimum cleaning condition.

In this study, a direct contact membrane module was manufactured to be used in a pilot scale membrane distillation process to treat $3m^3/day$ of the digestate produced from anaerobic digestion of livestock manure. In order to investigate the performance of the membrane module, permeate flux was measured with and without spacer inside the module under various condition of temperature difference and cross flow velocity (CFV) through the membrane surfaces. Flux recovery rate after chemical cleaning was also investigated by applying three different cleaning methods. Additionally, thermal energy consumption was theoretically simulated based on actual pilot plant operation conditions. As results, we observed flux of the module with spacer was almost similar to the theoretically predicted value because the installation of spacer reduced the channeling effect inside the module. Under the same operating condition, the permeate flux also increased with increasing temperature difference and CFV. As a result of chemical in-line cleaning using NaOCl and citric acid for the fouled membranes, the recovery rate was 83.7% compared to the initial flux when NaOCl was used alone, and 87% recovery rate was observed when only citric acid was used. However, in the case of using only citric acid, the permeate flux was decreased at a rapid rate. It seemed that a cleaning by NaOCl was more effective to recover the flux of membrane contaminated by the organic matter as compared to a cleaning by citric acid. The total heat energy consumption increased with increasing CFV and temperature difference across the membrane. Thus, further studies should be intensively conducted to obtain a high permeate flux while keeping the energy consumption to a minimum for a practical application of membrane distillation process to treat wastewater.

An Experimental study of cleaning solution has been performed on a high capacity steam boiler burning heavy fuel oil to on-line cleaning of deposit. The deposit is mixture of soot, slag, ash, metal oxide and clinker. The traditional technology of deposit cleaning was carried hand-crafted. The conventional technology of boiler cleaning method is mechanical removal by the worker while the boiler shut down operation. In this experiment, the deposit of mixture of soot, slag, ash, metal oxide and clinker has been removed by the cleaning agents without shut down of boiler burning. This study found out the optimum cleaning solution composition. The best results have been obtained when the mixture of ammonium nitrate and $MgNO_3$ were used in cleaning solution. The various transition metal effect was investigated for optimum mixing condition. In this research, the metal compound additive of the clean solution compoition was obtained. The combustion efficiency was improved by on-line cleaning with derived clean solution compoition. On-line cleaning method prevents the fouling and corrosion in the boiler and heat exchanger.

In the a rapid changes of the semiconductor manufacturing technologies for early 21st century, it may be safely said that a kernel of terms is the size increase of Si wafer and the size decrease of semiconductor devices. As the size of Si wafers increases and semiconductor device is miniaturized, the units of cleaning processes increases. A present cleaning technology is based upon RCA cleaning which consumes vast chemicals and ultra pure water (UPW) and is the high temperature process. Therefore, this technology gives rise to the environmental issue. To resolve this matter, candidates of advanced cleaning processes has been studied. One of them is to apply the electrolyzed water. In this work, Compared with surface on Si wafer with electrolyzed water cleaning and various chemicals cleaning, and analyzed Si wafer surface condition treated with elecoolyzed water by cleaning temperature and cleaning time. Especially. concentrate upon the contact angle. finally, contact angle on surface treated with cathode water cleaning is 17.28, and anode water cleaning is 34.1.
A numerical study has been carried out on the optimization of an air cleaning system which was installed in a heating, ventilation and air conditioning system (HVAC) system of subway station for particle removal. Required particle removal efficiencies of three different air cleaning systems were calculated from ventilation rate, and indoor/outdoor concentration of PM10. Mass balance equations of PM10 were used to solve the required particle removal efficiencies. Fibrous filter was considered as an air cleaning system. Calculations were carried out about two different places which were waiting area and platform of subway station, respectively. This study proposed optimized design and operation condition of each air cleaning system.

The corrosion product of archaeological iron objects is supposed to be removed because it causes re-corrosion. So far it is removed by scapel and sand blaster but they depend on the skill and experience of a conservator and the glass-dust of the sand blaster is harmful to humans. Therefore this study applies a laser cleaning system which is used in various industrial cleaning processes, to remove corrosion product from archaeological iron objects. In addition, this work studies the alternation of corrosion product after laser irradiation, which evaluates the reliability of the laser cleaning system. Optical microscopy, SEM-EDS, XRD, Raman have been used to observe and analyse the surface of the objects. The results show the capacity of laser cleaning some corrosion product, but blackening appears with increasing pulses and laser energy, and some corrosion products, goethite and hematite, are partially altered to magnetite. These problems, blackening and alternation of corrosion product, should be solved by further studies which find the optimal laser irradiation condition and use a wetting agent.

The fouling around the surface of hull and propeller caused by marine organism and sea water occur in the vessel which is taken up mooring in a quay for a quite long time. Moreover, those are able to give rise to the loss of speed performance. The purpose of underwater cleaning is to improve the performance of vessel and customer satisfaction through management for fouling condition of propeller and hull. Therefore, systematic approach in connection with underwater cleaning is required so as to obtain the stable speed performance. As a result, we evaluate the effect of propeller polishing to speed performance from the case of 115K COT and 4,250 TEU Container Ship. In addition, we issue the importance of underwater cleaning through comparison of speed results depending on conditions of hull surface painted by silicon.
In the bench scale test unit consisting of four commercial filter elements, the traces of the transient pressure around the nozzle and overpressure in the filter cavity were measured to estimate the effect of nozzle on pulse cleaning. For the given pulse cleaning system, the convergent nozzle displayed better performance than the straight one. The optimum ratio of outlet to inside diameter of convergent nozzle was determined, which minimized the pulse gas consumption and maximized the entrainment effect. The angle and height of nozzle convergent part was also optimum operational condition, which is meaningful to the industrial applying.
The purpose of this study was to compare the efficiency of four different cleaning method of silk and to fabrics, which were excavated from the sixteenth century tombs. The four cleaning methods were hand washing in water and hand washing in solvent, washing in ultrasonic cleaner, and using of ultrasonic gun after washing in ultrasonic cleaner. The following is the result of the experiment: ㆍBoth silk and jute fabrics shrank the most after hand-wash in water. This cleaning method decreased their thickness the most but changed their strength the least. However, the color of the fabric changed the most after had-wash in water. This washing method might discolor the dyed fabric, so one must check the condition of the fabric thoroughly before washing it. ㆍThe weight and the thickness of the fabric changed little after ultrasonic cleaning. This cleaning method, therefore. is less efficient than hand-water-wash. The use of ultrasonic gun after ultrasonic wash for partial cleansing enhanced the efficiency a little. Nevertheless, this method left stain around the area where the gun was used, and the injected water could damage the fabric. ㆍThe excavated fabric became softer in the cleaning process as the dirt was washed away. In both cases of silk and jute fabrics cleaning, solvent made the fabric softer than water. Washed in solvent, the fabric did not swell. But water penetrated to the fiber during the cleaning process and made the fabric swell. When the water evaporates, the swollen fiber structure collapses and the fabric become stiff. Ultrasonic wash did not cause much change in the flexibility of the fabric, for this method does not remove the dirt as effectively as the other method.

We have studied surface roughness, contamination of impurity, bonding with some gas element, reflectance and zeta potential on masks to be generated or changed during photolithography/dry or wet etching process. Mask surface roughness was not changed after photolithography/dry etching process. But surface roughness was changed on some area under MoSi film of Cr/MoSi/Qz. There was not detected any impurity on mask surface after plasma dry etching process. Reflectance of mask was increased after variable plasma etching treatment, especially when mask was treated with plasma including $O_2$ gas. Blank mask was positively charged when the mask was treated with Cr plasma etching gas($Cl_2:250$ sccm/He:20 $sccm/O_2:29$ seem, source power:100 W/bias power:20 W, 300 sec). But this positive charge was changed to negative charge when the mask was treated with $CF_4$ gas for MoSi plasma etching, resulting better wet cleaning. There was appeared with negative charge on MoSi/Qz mask treated with Cr plasma etching process condition, and this mask was measured with more negative after SC-1 wet cleaning process, resulting better wet cleaning. This mask was charged with positive after treatment with $O_2$ plasma again, resulting bad wet cleaning condition.
