One-step reduction/dyeing method was optimized for wool dyeing with natural indigo dye in this study. The effects of reduction/dyeing conditions including dye temperature and time, the pH of bath, concentration of dye, and reducing agent on dye uptake and color were investigated. The dye uptake was higher with no addition of alkali. Dyeing was carried out through the use of only sodium hydrosulfite in the bath. The maximum dye uptake was obtained at $60^{\circ}C$ for 30min and the dyed fabrics appeared in the PB Munsell color range. Dye uptake improved with the increase of a natural indigo dye concentration with the same sodium hydrosulfite concentration. At a higher dye uptake, the fabric color became more purplish and the maximum absorption shifted from 660nm to 620nm. Color reproducibility was reliable with a color difference in the range of 0.41~1.43. Regardless of color strength, washing and dry cleaning fastnesses were good with a 4/5 rating, and fastnesses to rubbing and light were acceptable with a 3/4~4 rating.
Collagen scaffolds were synthesized by cross linking into a solution mixture of 1-ethyl-3-[3-dimethylaminopropyl] carbodiimide hydrochlorid(EDC) in ethanol, followed by pressing, cleaning and lyophilization process after the type I atelo-collagen solutions in D.I water(pH3). The experimental conditions are collagen concentration of 1.0 wt%, 3.0 wt%, 5.0 wt% and differential concentration of cross-linker. Then, parametric studies were performed by varying the parameters to investigate the morphology, the porosity, the swelling ratio and the thickness and genotoxicity of the scaffolds. The scaffolds thickness pattern was regular to concentration of the degree of cross-linker and collagen. It was observed that the swelling ratio, the degree of crosslink, and the pore size(thickness of scaffold) can be controlled by adjusting the collagen, crosslinker. Among the parameters investigated, the smallest thickness can be achieved by collagen, crosslinker concentrate condition. The collagen scaffold is induced no genotoxicity. The lowest swelling ratio, as an indication of the highest degree of crosslink, can be obtained by adding crosslink agent.
A cost-effective and simple solder on pad (SoP) process is proposed for a fine-pitch microbump interconnection. A novel solder bump maker (SBM) material is applied to form a 60-${\mu}m$ pitch SoP. SBM, which is composed of ternary Sn3.0Ag0.5Cu (SAC305) solder powder and a polymer resin, is a paste material used to perform a fine-pitch SoP through a screen printing method. By optimizing the volumetric ratio of the resin, deoxidizing agent, and SAC305 solder powder, the oxide layers on the solder powder and Cu pads are successfully removed during the bumping process without additional treatment or equipment. Test vehicles with a daisy chain pattern are fabricated to develop the fine-pitch SoP process and evaluate the fine-pitch interconnection. The fabricated Si chip has 6,724 bumps with a 45-${\mu}m$ diameter and 60-${\mu}m$ pitch. The chip is flip chip bonded with a Si substrate using an underfill material with fluxing features. Using the fluxing underfill material is advantageous since it eliminates the flux cleaning process and capillary flow process of the underfill. The optimized bonding process is validated through an electrical characterization of the daisy chain pattern. This work is the first report on a successful operation of a fine-pitch SoP and microbump interconnection using a screen printing process.
The greatest purpose of chromate treatment is to improve anti-corrosion by stabilizing a metal surface. Because metal surface forms a compound by absorbing oxygen or water in the air by being generally unstable, it is necessary to improve anti-corrosion of the metal by forming the metal surface with a stable film. When considering the economical efficiency and requirements together because the film of the metal surface treated with chromate has good anti-corrosion and the stability also in the air by being compact and strong, Chromate treatment has been used most up to the electronics industry from the auto industry. However, these days, because hexavalent chromium is both a toxic agent to be able to cause cancers and deadly poisonous environmental pollutant, the strong legal controls on its use is being imposed all over the world. Because of this reason, a new anti-corrosion method is being required. Also, by users' various demands, the passivations that have recently been developed require various characteristics such as conductivity, chemical resistance, alkali cleaning resistance as well as anti-corrosion. We could confirm the results such as excellent anti-corrosion compared to chromate, conductivity, chemical resistance and detergent resistance as the result of analysis of various characteristics of the galvannealed sheet steels coated with Cr-Free solution developed in this research.
The environment-friendly building material, photocatalyst/scoria/loess concrete, was prepared using scoria and loess (which have merits as building materials) and photocatalyst (which has the functions to compose the environmental contaminants and of self cleaning). In order to apply this material as a building material, the compressive and flexible strengths, and water absorptivity (which have been set by Korea Industrial Standard) were measured. The optimum mixing ratio of photocatalyst/scoria/loess concrete was obtained at the condition of $393kg/m^3$ of coarse aggregate, $802kg/m^3$ of fine aggregate in case of scoria, $80kg/m^3$ of loess, $12kg/m^3$ of photocatalyst, $400kg/m^3$ of cement, and $2kg/m^3$ of AE water reducing agent. The photocatalyst/scoria/loess concrete prepared by above mixing ratio of raw materials showed 25 MPa of compressive strength, $3.8{\sim}4.6$ MPa of flexible strength and $11.4{\sim}12.0%$ of water absorptivity, indicating that the quality of this material was suitable for Korea Industrial Standard (more than 21 MPa for compressive strength, more than 2.0 MPa for flexible strength in case of lightweight aggregate, and less than 15 % for water absorptivity in case of clay brick) for using as a building material.
Benzalkonium chloride (BAC) is a caustic agent which is used in farms, homes and hospitals for cleaning skin and wounds as an antiseptic solution. It may lead to digestive system injuries in case of ingestion. We present a two-days-old newborn case which was carried to the emergency unit with complaints of poor breastfeeding, uneasiness and crying for 4-6 hours. Her mom confessed that she had given a spoon of 10% BAC solution for her cough. Initial laboratory tests were in normal ranges. A gastroscopy performed in the second hour of her admission revealed an hyperemic and edematous mucosa in the middle third of esophagus and a circumferential ulceration followed in the distal portion. Hereupon, a conservative treatment for 10 days was administered and the control gastroscopy demonstrated that the damage was almost totally improved. She was the youngest case with this etiology and successfully treated with conservative approach.
Catalytic oxidation of benzene, toluene and xylene (BTX) using regenerated metal oxide catalysts (ZnO-CuO, NiO, $Fe_2O_3$, ZnO, CrO) were investigated in a fixed bed flow reactor to evaluate their feasibility for the purpose of removing volatile organic compounds (VOCs). Four kinds of pre-treatment methods such as gas (air and hydrogen), acid aqueous solution, alkali aqueous solution and cleaning agent were used to find out the optimal regeneration conditions. The physico-chemical properties of the used and regenerated catalysts were characterized by BET and TPR (Temperature Programmed Reduction). The used catalysts showed high conversion ratio and the catalytic ability of toluene oxidation was in the order of ZnO-CuO>$Fe_2O_3$>NiO>ZnO>CrO. We found that the acid aqueous pre-treatment (0.1 N HNO$_3$) was the best way to enhance the catalytic activity of $Fe_2O_3$. In addition, air and hydrogen gas treatment were optimal for NiO and ZnO-CuO catalysts, respectively. Furthermore, the decomposition of BTX depends on the type of a catalyst and a gas molecule.
In membrane processes, various agents are used to enhance, protect, and recover membrane performance. Applying these agents in membrane modification could potentially be considered as a simple method to improve membrane performance without additional process. Citric acid (CI) and sodium bisulfite (SB) are two chemicals that are widely used in membrane feed water pretreatment and cleaning processes. In this work, preadsorptions of CI and SB were developed as simple methods for polysulfone ultrafiltration membrane modification. It was found that hydrogen bonding and Van Der Waals attraction could be responsible for the adsorptions of CI and SB onto membranes, respectively. After modification with CI or SB, the membrane surfaces became more hydrophilic. Membrane permeability improved when modified by SB while decreased a little when modified by CI. The modified membranes had an increase in PEG and BSA rejections and better antifouling properties with higher flux recovery ratios during filtration of a complex pharmaceutical wastewater. Moreover, membrane chlorine tolerance was elevated after modification with either agent, as shown by the mechanical property measurements.
As the concerns of dermal exposure of spray painters to isocyanates in the automobile industry, glove performance was examined like permeation rate and breakthrough time including fatigue test. Methylene chloride was used as the solvent for derivatization of the isocyanates with a 97.5% recovery. Ghost wipe pads were used to wipe the surface of the glove material after chemical penetration through the glove material placed under a disposable test cell. Several solvents were tested, such as thinner(xylene, toluene) and cleaning agent(acetone) by using a standard permeation test cell(AS/NZS standard 2161. part 10.3). Solvents accelerate chemical permeation through the gloves more quickly than pure HDI hardener products. The longest breakthrough times were from Nitrosolve gloves, not detected in 8 hours, compared with others like Latex, Neoprene, TNT and Dermo Plus. Therefore Nitrosolve gloves could be recommended as personal protective equipment in crash repair shops. In addition, revised exposure limit of korean regulation should be suggested for employee to minimize the risk of health symptoms.
