Facial expression recognition is an important part in emotional interaction between human and machine. This paper proposes a facial expression recognition approach based on multi-classifier fusion with stacking algorithm. The kappa-error diagram is employed in base-level classifiers selection, which gains insights about which individual classifier has the better recognition performance and how diverse among them to help improve the recognition accuracy rate by fusing the complementary functions. In order to avoid the influence of the chance factor caused by guessing in algorithm evaluation and get more reliable awareness of algorithm performance, kappa and informedness besides accuracy are utilized as measure criteria in the comparison experiments. To verify the effectiveness of our approach, two public databases are used in the experiments. The experiment results show that compared with individual classifier and two other typical ensemble methods, our proposed stacked ensemble system does recognize facial expression more accurately with less standard deviation. It overcomes the individual classifier's bias and achieves more reliable recognition results.

To monitor composition and change of the national land, intelligent topographical classifier which enables accurate classification of land-cover types from airborne LiDAR data is highly required. We developed a topographical classifier development support system cooperating with da1a mining tool WEKA to help users to construct accurate topographical classification systems. The topographical classifier development support system has the following functions; superposing LiDAR data upon corresponding aerial images, dividing LiDAR data into tiles for efficient processing, 3D visualization of partial LiDAR data, feature from tiles, automatic WEKA input generation, and automatic C++ program generation from the classification rule set. In addition, with dam mining tool WEKA, we can choose highly distinguishable features by attribute selection function and choose the best classification model as the result topographical classifier. Therefore, users can easily develop intelligent topographical classifier which is well fitted to the developing objectives by using the topographical classifier development support system.

This paper proposes an optimized classifier based on feature elimination (OCFE) for gene selection with combining two feature elimination methods, ReliefF and SVM-RFE. ReliefF algorithm is filter feature selection which rank the data by the importance of the data. SVM-RFE algorithm is a wrapper feature selection which wrapped the data and rank the data based on the weight of feature. With combining these two methods we get less error rate average, 0.3016138 for OCFE and 0.3096779 for SVM-RFE. The proposed method also get better accuracy with 70% for OCFE and 69% for SVM-RFE.
The relationships among multi-dimensional data (such as medical examination data) with ambiguity and variation are difficult to explore. The traditional approach to building a data classification system requires the formulation of rules by which the input data can be analyzed. The formulation of such rules is very difficult with large sets of input data. This paper first describes two classification approaches using back-propagation (BP) neural network and Mahalanobis distance (MD) classifier, and then proposes two classification approaches for multi-dimensional feature selection. The first one proposed is a feature selection procedure from the trained back-propagation (BP) neural network. The basic idea of this procedure is to compare the multiplication weights between input and hidden layer and hidden and output layer. In order to simplify the structure, only the multiplication weights of large absolute values are used. The second approach is Mahalanobis-Taguchi system (MTS) originally suggested by Dr. Taguchi. The MTS performs Taguchi's fractional factorial design based on the Mahalanobis distance as a performance metric. We combine the automatic thresholding with MD: it can deal with a reduced model, which is the focus of this paper In this work, two case studies will be used as examples to compare and discuss the complete and reduced models employing BP neural network and MD classifier. The implementation results show that proposed approaches are effective and powerful for the classification.

This study aims to find consistent strategies for feature selection and feature weighting methods, which can improve the effectiveness and efficiency of kNN text classifier. Feature selection criteria and feature weighting methods are as important factor as classification algorithms to achieve good performance of text categorization systems. Most of the former studies chose conflicting strategies for feature selection criteria and weighting methods. In this study, the performance of several feature selection criteria are measured considering the storage space for inverted index records and the classification time. The classification experiments in this study are conducted to examine the performance of IDF as feature selection criteria and the performance of conventional feature selection criteria, e.g. mutual information, as feature weighting methods. The results of these experiments suggest that using those measures which prefer low-frequency features as feature selection criterion and also as feature weighting method. we can increase the classification speed up to three or five times without loosing classification accuracy.
Traffic classification is an essential task for network management. Many researchers have paid attention to initial sub-flow features based classifiers for traffic classification. However, the existing classifiers cannot classify traffic effectively in mobile IP networks. The classifiers depend on initial sub-flows, but they cannot always capture the sub-flows at a point of attachment for a variety of elements because of seamless mobility. Thus the ideal classifier should be capable of traffic classification based on not only initial sub-flows but also various types of sub-flows. In this paper, we propose a classifiable sub-flow selection method to realize the ideal classifier. The experimental results are so far promising for this research direction, even though they are derived from a reduced set of general applications and under relatively simplifying assumptions. Altogether, the significant contribution is indicating the feasibility of the ideal classifier by selecting not only initial sub-flows but also transition sub-flows.
Semantic interpretation of the relationship between noun compound (NC) elements has been a challenging issue due to the lack of contextual information, the unbounded number of combinations, and the absence of a universally accepted system for the categorization. The current models require a huge corpus of data to extract contextual information, which limits their usage in many situations. In this paper, a new semantic relations interpreter for NCs based on novel lightweight binary features is proposed. Some of the binary features used are novel. In addition, the interpreter uses a new feature selection method. By developing these new features and techniques, the proposed method removes the need for any huge corpuses. Implementing this method using a modular and plugin-based framework, and by training it using the largest and the most current fine-grained data set, shows that the accuracy is better than that of previously reported upon methods that utilize large corpuses. This improvement in accuracy and the provision of superior efficiency is achieved not only by improving the old features with such techniques as semantic scattering and sense collocation, but also by using various novel features and classifier max entropy. That the accuracy of the max entropy classifier is higher compared to that of other classifiers, such as a support vector machine, a Na$\ddot{i}$ve Bayes, and a decision tree, is also shown.

In recent years, several studies have proposed making use of the Twitter micro-blogging service to track various trends in online media and discussion. In this study, we specifically examine the use of Twitter to track discussions of food safety in the Korean language. Given the irregularity of keyword use in most tweets, we focus on optimistic machine-learning and feature set selection to classify collected tweets. We build the classifier model using Naive Bayes & Naive Bayes Multinomial, Support Vector Machine, and Decision Tree Algorithms, all of which show good performance. To select an optimum feature set, we construct a basic feature set as a standard for performance comparison, so that further test feature sets can be evaluated. Experiments show that precision and F-measure performance are best when using a Naive Bayes Multinomial classifier model with a test feature set defined by extracting Substantive, Predicate, Modifier, and Interjection parts of speech.
Air-writing recognition is relevant in areas such as natural human-computer interaction, augmented reality, and virtual reality. A trajectory is the most natural way to represent air writing. We analyze the recognition accuracy of words written in air considering five features, namely, writing direction, curvature, trajectory, orthocenter, and ellipsoid, as well as different parameters of a hidden Markov model classifier. Experiments were performed on two representative datasets, whose sample trajectories were collected using a Leap Motion Controller from a fingertip performing air writing. Dataset D1 contains 840 English words from 21 classes, and dataset D2 contains 1600 English words from 40 classes. A genetic algorithm was combined with a hidden Markov model classifier to obtain the best subset of features. Combination ftrajectory, orthocenter, writing direction, curvatureg provided the best feature set, achieving recognition accuracies on datasets D1 and D2 of 98.81% and 83.58%, respectively.

The signal pattern recognition program which can perform signal acquisition and processing, the extraction and selection of features, the classifier design and the evaluation, is developed and applied to the classification of artificial defects in the weld zone of Austenitic STS304. The neural network classifier is compared with the linear discriminant function classifier and the empirical Bayesian classifier. The signal through a broadband sensor is compared with that through a resonance type sensor. In recognition rate, the neural network classifier is best, and the signal through a broadband sensor is better.
