  • Changes in climate have largely increased concentrated heavy rainfall, which in turn is causing enormous damages to humans and properties. Therefore, it is important to understand the spatial-temporal features of rainfall. In this study, RADAR rainfall was used to calculate gridded areal rainfall which reflects the spatial-temporal variability. In addition, Kalman-filter method, a stochastical technique, was used to combine ground rainfall network with RADAR rainfall network to calculate areal rainfall. Thiessen polygon method, Inverse distance weighting method, and Kriging method were used for calculating areal rainfall, and the calculated data was compared with adjusted areal RADAR rainfall measured using the Kalman-filter method. The result showed that RADAR rainfall adjusted with Kalman-filter method well-reproduced the distribution of raw RADAR rainfall which has a similar spatial distribution as the actual rainfall distribution. The adjusted RADAR rainfall also showed a similar rainfall volume as the volume shown in rain gauge data. Anseong-Cheon basin was used as a study area and the RADAR rainfall adjusted with Kalman-filter method was applied in $Vflo^{TM}$ model, a physical-based distributed model, and ModClark model, a semi-distributed model. As a result, $Vflo^{TM}$ model simulated peak time and peak value similar to that of observed hydrograph. ModClark model showed good results for total runoff volume. However, for verifying the parameter, $Vflo^{TM}$ model showed better reproduction of observed hydrograph than ModClark model. These results confirmed that flood runoff simulation is applicable in domestic settings(in South Korea) if highly accurate areal rainfall is calculated by combining gauge rainfall and RADAR rainfall data and the simulation is performed in link to the distributed hydrological model.

  • In this study, as a method for decreasing the confidence interval of the estimates of Clark hydrograph's concentration time and storage coefficient, regression equations of these parameters with respect to those of rainfall, meteorology, and basin characteristics are derived and analyzed using the Monte Carlo simulation technique. The results are also reviewed by comparing them with those derived by applying the Bootstrap technique and empirical equations. Results derived from this research are summarized as follows. (1) Even in case of limited rainfall events are available, it is possible to estimate the mean runoff characteristics by considering the affecting factors to runoff characteristics. (2) It is also possible to use the Monte Carlo simulation technique for estimating and evaluating the confidence intervals for concentration time and storage coefficient. The confidence intervals estimated in this study were found much narrower than those of Yoo et al. (2006). (3) A supporting result could also be derived using the Bootstrap technique. However, at least 20 independent rainfall events are necessary to get a rather significant result for concentration time and storage coefficient. (4) No empirical equations are found to be properly applicable for the study basin. However, empirical equations like the Kraven(I) and Kraven(II) are found valid for the estimation of concentration time, on the other hand the Linsley is found valid for the storage coefficient In this study basin. But users of these empirical formula should be careful as these also provide a wide range of possible values.

  • Taxonomic study for the comantulid crinoids collected from Korea Strait was conducted. A oligophreatan species, Parametra orion (A. H. Clark, 1907) belonging to the family Thalassometridae, was identified and turned out to be new to the Korean fauna. The family Thalassometridae is newly reported in Korea.

  • In computer-aided geometric modeling(CAGD), subdivision surfaces are frequently employed to construct free-form surfaces. In the present study, Loop scheme and Catmull-Clark scheme are applied to generate smooth surfaces. To be consistent with the limit points of target surface, the initial sampling points are properly rearranged. The pointwise errors of curvature and position in the sequence of subdivision process are evaluated in both Loop scheme & Catmull-Clark subdivision scheme. In partcural, a general subdivision method in order to generate considering extraordinary points are implemented free from surface with arbitrary sampling point information.

  • This paper claims Hale and Keyser's (1992, 1993a, 2001) Lexical Relational Structure (LRS) theory should be slightly extended by allowing the syntactic principles for the “referential” component to apply to the “manner” component. Then, it shows this extension allows us to deal with most of Clark and Clark's (1979) denominal verbs, except that cases like butcher may further demand Hale and Keyser's (2001) p-signature copying treatment. It also argues that this extension is further supported by a more satisfactory treatment of the distribution of non-bridge verbs, and of an asymmetry in ditransitive passives.

  • Quality Function Deployment (QFD) is a product development tool used to ensure that the voice of the customer is heard and translated into products. This paper shows the applicability and usefulness of this product development tool in the apparel industry by developing an apparel example and taking it through the four matrices that encompass a QFD process.
