To determine vitamin A and E intakes and their food sources, dietary intakes were collected by three consecutive 24-hour recalls from 192 adults living in Seoul and Gyeonggi Province, Korea. The mean vitamin A, retinol and ${\beta}$-carotene intakes were $1240.1{\pm}1101.1\;{\mu}g$ retinol equivalent/day ($693.3{\pm}563.2\;{\mu}g$ retinol activity equivalent/day), $182.6{\pm}149.5\;{\mu}g$/day and $5443.3{\pm}6365.5\;{\mu}g$/day, respectively. Only 9.4% of the subjects consumed less than the Korean Estimated Average Requirement for vitamin A. The mean vitamin E intake was $6.03{\pm}2.54\;mg$${\alpha}$-tocopherol equivalent/day. The ${\alpha}$-tocopherol and ${\gamma}$-tocopherol intakes were $4.83{\pm}2.03$ and $5.57{\pm}3.41\;mg$/day, respectively. Most of the subjects (93.8%) consumed less than the Korean Adequate Intake for vitamin E. The major food sources of vitamin A were sweet potato, carrot, red pepper powder, spinach, and citrus fruit, and the top 30 foods provided 91.5% of total Plant foods provided 81.0% and animalderived foods 10.5% of the vitamin A intake from the top 30 foods. The major food sources of vitamin E were soybean oil, red pepper powder, Ramyeon (cup noodles), spinach, and egg. The top 30 foods provided 78.0% of total vitamin E intake. Plant foods provided 61.3% and animal-derived foods 15.9% of the vitamin E intake from the top 30 foods. In conclusion, the vitamin A intake of the Korean adults in this study was ge-nerally adequate, but the vitamin E intake of many subjects was inadequate. Therefore, nutritional education may be of benefit to Korean adults to increase their vitamin E intake.
Over 96.2% of the agricultural water in Jeju Island is obtained from groundwater and there are quite distinct characteristics of agricultural water demand/supply spatially because of regional and seasonal differences in cropping system and rainfall amount. Land use for cultivating crops is expected to decrease 7.4% (4,215 ha) in 2020 compared to 2010, while market garden including various vegetable crop types having high water demand is increasing over the Island, especially western area having lower rainfall amount compared to southern area. On the other hand, land use for fruit including citrus and mandarin having low water demand is widely distributed over southern and northern part having higher rainfall amount. The agricultural water demand of $1,214{\times}10^3\;m^3/day$ in 2020 is estimated about 1.39 times compared to groundwater supply capacity of $874{\times}10^3\;m^3/day$ in 2010 with 42.4% of eastern, 103.1% of western, 61.9% of southern, and 77.0% of northern region. Moreover, net secured amount of agricultural groundwater would be expected to be much smaller due to regional disparity of water demand/supply, the lack of linkage system between the agricultural water supply facilities, and high percentage of private wells. Therefore, it is necessary to ensure the total net secured amount of agricultural groundwater to overcome the expected regional discrepancy of water demand and supply by establishing policy alternative of regional water supply plan over the Island, including linkage system between wells, water tank enlargement, private wells maintenance and public wells development, and continuous enlargement of rainwater utilization facilities.
Regional foods is influenced by weather, local and social environment etc. The purpose of this study was to understand that regional foods in the middle of Chosun Dynasty through Domundaejac. Some of representative dishes of the Hansung and Kyonggi-do Area is duck(rice cake) of seasonally celebrated days, hangua(korea confectionary) and rice wine. Typical foods in Chungchong-do Area is included persimmon, jujube, watermelon and wax gourd. Some of the well-known food in Kangwon-do Area is pear, bangpungchuk(gruel), sukebyung(rice cake), woongjijunggua(korea confectionary) and sanat-kimchi(picked mustard leaves and stem) that is seemed characteristics of mountainous section. Some of the famous dishes in Cholla-do Area is backsanja(korea confectionary), tea, chuksun kimchi(bamboo shoot pickle), citrus fruits and ear shell. Kyongsan-do Area ia famous persimmon, bamboo fruit, dasik(korea confectionary) and yakban(glutinous rice cake). Hwanghae-do Area is famed pear and choshi as assumed the eatly form of gochujang(thick soypaste mixed with red pepper). Representative dishes are deljjuk(blue berry), herring, sangat-kimchi(picked mustard leaves and sterm) in Hamgyong-do Area and daemandu(big dumpling) in Pyongan-do Area. The coast area is famous for using lots of sea food. Fresh seafood is consumed raw, and clams, fish and seaweed are liberally added to soups and other dishes. The East coast is catched salmon, flatfish, codfish, sandfish and mackerel The West coast is catched yellow corvenia, lobster, tiny shrimp and large-eyed herring. The South coast is catched sea mussel, codfish and laver.

Scirtothrips Dorsalis (Thysanoptera: Thripidae) recently has been recognized as a major source of the pest damage in the citrus fruit orchards. So its arrival has been predicted periodically but it is difficult to identify adults of the pest with the naked eyes because of their size smaller than the 0.8mm. In this paper, we propose a method to detect candidate areas for automatic identification of Scirtothrips Dorsalis on forecasting traps. The proposed method uses a histogram-based template matching where the composite image synthesized with the gray-scale image and the gradient image is used. In our experiments, images are acquired by the optical microscopy with 50 magnifications. To show the usefulness of the proposed method, it is compared with the method we previously suggested. Also, the performances when the proposed method is applied to noise-reduced images and gradient images are examined. The experimental results show that the proposed method is approximately 14.42% better than our previous method, 41.63% higher than the case that the noise-reduced image is used, and 21.17% higher than the case that the gradient image is used.
Volatile odor substance originating from drying and making dry peel of tangerine from the fruit skin were collected through modern equipment. The anti-microbial activity of the substance against various skin-residing bacteria including acne, dandruff, athelete's foot, and gingivitis inducing microorganisms were tested. Anti-microbial activity was observed in purified oil, where 87 to 92% was D-limonene. Against P. acnes, 103$cfu/m{\ell}$ of P. acnes were suppressed at 0.1% Unshiu oil, and the MIC was measured to be 0.3%. Against P. ovale, a dandruff inducing bacteria, 104$cfu/m{\ell}$were suppressed at 0.1% Unshiu oil, and the MIC was measured to be 0.1%. Against T. rubrum and T. Mentagrophytes, both of which are athelete's foot inducing microorganisms, 83% of T. Mentagrophytes and 99.9% of T. rubrum were suppressed at 0.1% Unshiu oil, and the MIC were 0.3% and 0.05% respectively. Against S. aureus, a skin infection inducing bacteria, 103$cfu/m{\ell}$ of the bacteria were suppressed at 0.1% Unshiu Oil. Against B. subtilis, a non-pathogenic sporulating bacteria, 104$cfu/m{\ell}$ of the bacteria were suppressed at 0.1% Unshiu Oil. Against C. albicans, found in mucous membranes, 104$cfu/m{\ell}$ of the bacteria were suppressed at 0.1% Unshiu Oil. Against Aspergillus niger, an otomycosis inducing microorganism, 99.9% were suppressed at 0.1% Unshiu Oil. The results above indicate that low concentration of purified oil extracted from tangerine had strong antimicrobial activities against bacteria and fungi residing on the skin, and that it may be developed into skin disorder treating products in the future.
The purpose of this research was to investigate consumption and satisfaction of Takju (Makgeolli) among consumers ages 20 to 29 living in Seoul and Gyeonggi province. It was found that 86.2% of the respondents drank Takju once or twice a month, and the high satisfaction group drank Takju with a frequency of 8 times a month (P<0.01). Respondents selected market (44.4%) and restaurants (34.9%) as the most common place of purchase, whereas pub (42.2%) and Takju bar (32.8%) were the drinking places selected. Regarding the preferred ingredients, respondents liked pear the most followed by Lycium chinense, corn, pine nuts, ginseng, and citrus fruit. The most compatible foods with Takju were identified as Buchimgae (Jeon) (97.4%), Kimchi (45.6%), Bokkeum (36.4%), Namul & Muchim (25.0%), and Jjim (21.5%). Pajeon was mentioned as the most compatible food with Takju, followed by Bulgogi, Gamjatang, Agwijjim, Dubukimchibokkeum, and Ojingeotwigim. Regarding consumers' satisfaction of Takju, taste was the most highly valued, with color, price, alcohol content, function, flavor, diversity of raw materials, and accuracy of label also highly considered. Further, to formulate a plan to encourage consumption of Takju, the high satisfaction group decided that promotion of local festivals and events related to Takju, standardization of quality, creation of brands, expansion of distribution network, and organization of relevant departments are the most important compared to other items (P<0.05).
To evaluate food consumption patterns of first generation Korean-American in Hawaii, questionnaires were developed using sociodemographic questions and food frequency questionnaire, which included 139 food items most often consumed among Korean foods and American foods. The questionnaires surveyed 157 first generation Korean-Americans in Hawaii. Mean daily servings for the first generation Korean-Americans were calculated for 139 food items combined into 41 food groups based on similarity in nutrient composition and serving size. The food groups which were consumed in amounts over one serving per day for all subjects were rice, Kimchi , non-citrus fruit , vegetables, organge/green vegetables. oil. margarine and coffee/tea. All subjects consumed less than one serving of hotdogs, hamburgers, pizza and pancakes per week(0.14 serving per day). The most notable characteristic of food consumption for first generation Korean-Americans was that they consumed more Korean food such as rice, Kimchi, soybean paste(Deenjang), soybean curd and seaweed than American foods. Compared with other groups based on age and gender, younger men showed significantly(p<0.05) more frequent consumption of beef/pork, sausages /hams /bacons and hambergers. Older men were significantly(p<0.05) more likely to consume Doenjang and less likely to consume pizza and hamburgers. Daily servings were below the recommended level for thegrains /bread/cereals group and fats/oils/sweets group for all subjects . Fruits/vegetables group servings exceeded the recommeded 5 daily servings for younger men. In correlations of daily servings of selected foods among Korean foods and American food with sociodemographic characteristics, this study showed that the older the subjects and the shorter the stay in Hawaii, subjects were more likely to consume Kroean foods.

The purpose of this study is to set the Hallabong tangor's quality standards based on consumer preference survey. Until now the Hallabong tangor's quality standards has been based on the fruit size. Hallabong tangor's quality in agricultural cooperative, citrus agricultural cooperative, and some agricultural corporation has been selected in accordance with its own brand of quality grade using a non-destruction sorting machine. But, setting the Hallabong tangor's quality standards has been based on the convenient and routine method rather than the scientific and objective method, consumer's preference. According to the grade contents, more than sugar $13^{\circ}Bx$ and less than acid 1.10% has been used uniformly. Thus, in this study, based on the consumers' preference of Hallabong tangor, 5-level grades of sugar and 7-level grades of acidity were divided into the total 35-level grades. Based on this, 5-level grades were set and were divided into selling product grades(1~3) and non-selling product grades(4~5).
The occurrence of melanose was investigated on yuzu at Goheung and Boseong in Jeonnam province in 1997 and 1998 seasons. The disease occurrence on leaf was initiated from late May in 1997 and early May in 1998, severest in late of June on leaf, and in case of fruit, initiated from early July in 1997 and late June in 1998 with a peak in early August. The disease was occurred in twenty days more earlier in 1998 season than 1997 season. We think this was caused by temperatures during April and May. And it was supposed that the disease severity on the severest late of June was closely related to the rainfall and relative humidity during June. The disease severity was severer in old tree than the young.
Purpose: We consider export of Korea for Muslim population of Cairo residents in Egypt. Product instant cup noodle and yuzu tea are mainly focused on Kano model and Timko's customer satisfaction factor (CS - Coefficient) analysis and conjoint analysis. Methods: Based on the evaluation and conjoint analysis, cluster analysis was additionally applied to further exploratory research as to what kind of population the target customer has.
