  • Swirling flows are found in very wide range of applications, for examples, cyclone separators, spraying machines, heat exchangers and jet pumps, ect. Relatively, little work has been done on the swirl flow using flow visualization techniques. This study deals with many visualization techniques to study on swirling flow. These techniques are related to oil films methods, smoke, dye liquids, liquid crystal, stroboscope light, smoke wire, white light, naphthalene sublimation, LDV(lase doppler Velocimetry) and PIV(particle image velocimetry). The present work has handled single, annular, carved tube, swirl expansion and swirl wake using several visualization methods in the vertical and horizontal circular tube.

  • A unique process was developed to improve the mechanical properties of a circular tube. In this proposed process, a large amount of strain is applied to the wall of tube, leading to grain refinement in the material. In order to investigate characteristics of microstructural evolution such as the distribution of grain size and misorientation angle during the process, an EBSD OIM analysis was carried out. The analysis confirms that the proposed process can very effectively produce a circular tube with ultrafine-grains.

  • Concrete filled steel tube (CFST) structures have recently seen wide use in China, but studies of the shear problem of CFST are inadequate. This paper presents an experimental study on the shear capacity of circular concrete filled steel tube (CCFT) specimens with and without axial compression force. Shear capacity, ductility, and damage modes of CCFTs were investigated and compared. Test results revealed the following: 1) CCFTs with a small shear span ratio may fail in shear in a ductile manner; 2) Several factors including section size, material properties, shear span ratio, axial compression ratio, and confinement index affect the shear capacity of CCFTs. Based on test results and analysis, this paper proposes a design formula for the shear capacity of CCFTs.

  • Concrete filled FRP tube has lately attracted attention as the member that can substitute the conventional reinforced concrete. Glass fiber and carbon fiber are some of available materials for FRP tube. Carbon tube is filament wound with specified winding angle to meet the appropriate capacity demands. Confinement effect of carbon tube is varied according to winding angle. In this study, a total 4 of large scale circular specimens of 30cm diameter and 60cm height is tested. To estimate the effect of winding angle and thickness of carbon tube on the increased confined compressive strength, the test tube are wound with $\pm45^{\circ}\;and\;\pm30^{\circ}$ with two types of thickness, 2mm and 3mm, respectively. It is shown that effectively increased confined strength and ductility are observed from the specimens with $\pm45^{\circ}$ winding angle than $\pm30^{\circ}$ winding angle. Increasing thickness is not as effective as adjusting winding angle for the confinement of concrete core.

  • The study of swirling flow is of technical and scientific interest because it has an internal recirculation field, and its tangential velocity is related to the curvature of streamline. The fluid flow for tubes and elbow of heat exchangers has been studied largely through experiments and numerical methods, but studies about swirling flow have been insufficient. Using the particle image velocimetry(PTV) method, this study found the time averaged velocity distribution with swirl and without swirl along longitude sections and the results appear to be physically reasonable. In addition, streamwise mean velocity distribution was compares with that of other. Furthermore, other experimental investigation was performed to study the characteristics of turbulent water flow in a horizontal circular tube by using liquid crystal. 2D PIV technique is employed for velocity measurement and liquid crystal is used for heat transfer experiments in water. Temperature visualization was made quantitatively by calibrating the colour of the liquid crystal versus temperature using various approaches.

  • Transcritical$CO_2$ systems are under consideration for use as residential/mobile air conditioners. In these systems, an internal heat exchanger is usually adopted to improve both capacity and/or COP of the $CO_2$ system in lower operating pressure range of gas cooler. A program has been developed to analyse the performance of internal heat exchangers using the section-by-section method. The internal heat exchanger of coaxial configuration is first analyzed and fairly good agreements with the data are obtained, And then the internal heat exchanger of multiple circular coil configuration has been investigated. The results obtained from the parametric study provide the guidelines for the initial design and manufacturing concepts of the internal heat exchanger in transcritical $CO_2$ system. Further studies are necessary to develop the heat transfer correlations of carbon dioxide in the tubes to obtain more accurate results.

  • Transmission electron microscopic study including single particle electron diffraction and morphological observation using replica and thin section was carried out for the Sancheong halloysite. Halloysite tube generally consists of inner circular and outer polygonal leaves. Primary triangular or concave voids are found between inner and outer leaves. Crosssection of halloysite tubes whose diameters are smaller than 500${\AA}$ are generally circular, whereas those larger than 500${\AA}$ are polygonal. Electron diffraction pattern of thick polygonal halloysite tube shows that it has a 2-layer monoclinic structure as suggested by previous workers.

  • The mechanical behavior of the outer square inner circular concrete-filled dual steel tubular (SCCFT) stub columns under axial compression is investigated by means of experimental research, numerical analysis and theoretical investigation. Parameters such as diameter ratio, concrete strength and steel ratio were discussed to identify their influence on the mechanical properties of SCCFT short columns on the basis of the experimental investigation of seven SCCFT short columns. By establishing a finite element model, nonlinear analysis was performed to discuss the longitudinal and transverse stress of the dual steel tubes. The longitudinal stress characteristics of the core and sandwich concrete were also analyzed. Furthermore, the failure sequence was illustrated and the reasonable cross-section composition of SCCFT stub column was proposed. A formula to predict the axial load capacity of SCCFT stub column was advanced and verified by the results from experiment and the finite element.

  • This paper represents the results of experiments designed to investigate the time-dependent response of concrete and steel tube in circular concrete-filled steel tubes, as are deployed extensively in high-rise building construction. The experiments were performed for creep of concrete and CFT column specimens with three loading cases. The creep coefficient and specific creep(unit creep) obtained from the test results were used for estimating and comparing the time-dependent response of each case. From these analyses, it is show that CFT-column has many merits for long-term behavior.

  • Hydroforming is a forming process enabling circular metal tubes to be produced in complex cross sections along curved axial paths. This forming process is widely used to manufacture parts in automotive industry. This paper presents bending and forming results to following angle of weld line positions. These compare to good bending, bad bending and without weld line model case. And then this result of after forming compare to each forming cases. The purpose of this paper is found that adaptive weld line position for bended final shape.
