Variety, Cutting Date and Physiological Functionality for Production of Leaves in Goji Berry (Lycium chinense Mill.) (구기자 잎 생산에 알맞은 품종, 예취시기 및 생리활성 평가)

  • Goji berry (Lycium chinense Mill.) is one of medicinal plants. Its leaves has been used to manufacture the functional foods by replacing the dried-fruit because of low production costs. In order to produce the leaves of uniform quality, continuous selection and the establishment of cultivation techniques were required. Among the eleven recommended cultivars, 'Myeongan' showed high yielding and rapid regeneration after cutting. The dried-leaf yield was linearly increased from 106 kg/10a on May 16 to 287 kg/10a on June 20. An appropriate cutting date and cutting length (about 60-70 cm) was important factors for its efficient regeneration. The late cutting times were not suitable due to difficulties during plant harvesting because of stem rigidity and thorn generation. The betaine content of leaves ranged from 1.43 ~ 2.63% and significantly affected by the varieties and the cutting dates. The main physiological functionality of leaf was Angiotesin-1-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitory activity, representing the anti-hypertensive. The other physiological functionalities, XOD inhibitory activity, antioxidant activity, tyrosinase inhibitory activity, SOD-like activity, α-glucosidase inhibitory activity and fibrinolytic activity, were not detected or less than 20%.

Effect of pre-planting liming fertilization in peatmoss based substrates on plug seeding growth of 'Red Madness' petunia and changes in soil chemical properties (피트모스 혼합상토에 기비로 혼합된 석회질 비료가 'Red Madness' 페튜니아 플러그 묘 생장과 상토화학성에 미치는 영향)

  • This research was conducted to investigate the influence of application rate of liming fertilizers on changes in soil chemical properties and growth of 'Red Madness' petunia in plug production. To achieve this, dolomite (DO) with 0, 1.0, 3.5, 8.0 or 13.0 $g{\cdot}L^{-1}$ and calcium carbonate (CC) with 0, 2.0, 2.5, 3.0, 3.5, or 4.0 $g{\cdot}L^{-1}$ were incorporated into peatmoss + vermiculite (1:1, v/v) during the root substrates formulation. The treatments of 3.5 $g{\cdot}L^{-1}$ of DO and 2.5 or 3.0 $gL^{-1}$ of CC had acceptable ranges of pH and EC in soil solution such as 5.6~6.2 and 0.7~1.0 $dS{\cdot}m^{-1}$, respectively. The faster rising of pH was observed in root media containing CC rather than those of DO. This indicates that the solubility of CC is higher than DO. The soil Ca concentrations in all treatments of CC were 1.8 times as high as those of DO. The treatments of 3.5 or 8.0 $g{\cdot}L^{-1}$ of DO had the highest soil Mg concentrations, but all treatments of CC had lower soil Mg concentrations than control treatment indicating that additional application of Mg fertilizers are required. The elevated application rate of DO or CC resulted in the increase of fresh and dry weight. But plant heights were not influenced by application of liming fertilizers. The results of tissue analysis showed that application of DO or CC influenced the $PO_4{^-}P$, Ca and Mg contents, but not influenced the contents of other nutrients such as N, P, Fe, Mn, Zn and Cu.

  • Thirty three species in six subfamilies of Staphylinidae are recognized from Ulleung-do through the survey in 2001. Among them, Thirty one species are newly reported from Ulleung-do. Two species, Anotylus lewisius(Sharp) and Megarthrus aino Cuccodoro, are reported for the first time from Korea.

Analysis of management status of chestnut cultivation in Chungcheongnam-do

  • In this study, we attempted to estimate the degree of management of chestnut forestry households in Chungcheongnam-do and to provide information for establishing chestnut cultivation-related policies. The chestnut management standard diagnostic table consists of three major categories, namely, management base, management and sales capacity, and production technology levels, along with 19 subcategories. A survey of 309 chestnut forestry households was conducted from 2014 to 2019 in Gongju, Cheongyang, and Buyeo in Chungcheongnam-do. The average score for the 19 subcategories was 65.7 points, indicating that these areas have excellent management conditions. When the total score was higher, the output per hectare and the rate of top-grade products in the total output were also higher, indicating a significant correlation. These findings will be useful for providing consulting services to chestnut growers as they highlight the correlation between the higher scores of the indicators in the chestnut management standard diagnostic table and the management performance of the farmers. We found that the scores of the indicators for management and sale skill, such as management record and analysis, material purchase, and direct transaction with consumers, were relatively lower than those of the indicators for management base and production skill. It is assumed that the chestnut growers aging has led to negligence in recording details on incomes, expenditures, and work and lowered the willingness to make substantial profits. Therefore, it is essential to overcome these problems for profitable chestnut farming.

Analysis of management status of oak mushroom management in Chungcheongnam-do

  • This study attempted to estimate the degree of management of oak mushroom farms in Chungcheongnam-do and to provide information to establish oak mushroom cultivation-related policies. The oak mushroom management standard diagnostic table consists of three major categories, growing condition, inoculation management, cultivation management and management administration, along with 20 subcategories. Thus, 209 households of oak mushroom farms were surveyed from 2015 to 2018 in Gongju, Cheongyang, Buyeo and Seochun in Chungcheongnam-do. The average score for the 20 subcategories was 71.5 points (representing a significant level), indicating that these areas have excellent management conditions. The analysis of the management performance indicators revealed a high number of indicators with scores of five or above. The total score was higher, and the amount per bed log and the rate of top-grade products in the total output were also higher, indicating a significant correlation. These findings will provide consulting services to oak mushroom growers as they highlight the correlation between the higher scores of indicators in the oak mushroom management standard diagnostic table and the management performance of farmers.   • This research has the purpose to examine the images sought for, makeup Consciousness, and behavioral aspects during makeup by the college girls in their 20s in the region of Daeieon and Chungnam that have strong interest in appearance and start color makeup in full scale, who form the main consumer layers in cosmetics market, and to analyze their preference on colors and feelings by the kinds of cosmetics, and their cosmetics purchase behavior. A questionnaire survey on the college girls in Daejeon and Chungnam region has shown the following results. The biggest reason college girls do the makeup was for a refined and pure image as well as protection of skin and covering defects. Their greatest concern was skin protection, and as for color selection, harmonizations of skin color and hair color were the largest consideration. In addition, the type of makeup they do most was foundation makeup, while pink was the most frequent lipstick color, and lip glow was mostly normal colors. However, they mostly answered that they do not use eye shadow, eye runner, and foundation. It was shown that their cosmetics purchase p]aces were specialized discount stores for about 47% nearly half of them, and they consider colors the most for lipsticks and eye shadows, and affinity to skin for foundations and basic cosmetics.

Development of Native Local Foods in Chungcheongnam-do by Storytelling (스토리텔링을 통한 충남향토음식 개발 연구 - '무령왕 수라상'과 '몽유도원 밥상'을 중심으로 -)

  • The objective of this study was to familiarize people with the native local food of Chungnam Province by developing its regional food as a culture resource. Native Local Food Search and luxury itemization based on regionally-characterized stories enhances self-perception of the national culture, promotes appropriate local images to the public, and contributes to the local economy by increasing regional tourism. Therefore, this study researched local stories of cultural significance, that is, those connected to the history and originality of Chungnam Province, and developed contents related to Chungnam native local food. Features of the native local food were introduced by a story telling method in order to appeal to the five senses. The story was composed for easy understanding of the value of food, and the brand image of Chungnam was developed based on representative historical stories of the region. In this study, the following were developed as representative images of Chungnam: 'Royal meal table of King Moo-ryung' in Kongju was presented by recomposing the story of King Moo-ryung, a famouns king of the Baekje era; 'Mong-yoo-do-won's rice meal table' was introduced via Mongyoo-do-won's painting by Kyeon An, a famous painter of the Chosun era who was born in Seosan. The 'Royal meal table of King Moo-ryung' was set with food made from local farm products, demonstrating the flavor and elegance of the Baekje era. 'Mong-yoo-do-won's rice meal table' resembled Kyeon An's Mong-yoo-do-won-do, which has a background featuring early spring. The rice table was designed to remind people of a flamboyant painting like a scattered peach blossom leaf in the early spring. To verify the health effectiveness of each rice table, the function of each ingredient was investigated through 'Sik-ryo-chan-yo:a dietary treatment', which was published by Soon-Ui Cheon during the Chosan era. According to the results, most of ingredients are certainly beneficial to health, as was recognized in the early Choson era.
