  • The effect of salts on the formation of ${\alpha}$-hemihydrated gypsum at boiling temperature under atmospheric pressure was studied by the solubility measurement method, and the formation of ${\alpha}$-hemihydrated gypsum from by-product gypsum of phosphoric acid process in the salts solution were investigated. The order of catalytic effect of salt on the formation of ${\alpha}$-hemihydrated gypsum are as follows: NH4Cl>NaCl>NaNO3. In the salts solution of sodium nitrate, sodium chloride, and ammonium chloride, prismatic ${\alpha}$-hemihydrated gypsum was obtained and the crystal form was converted to needle form in complex solution with sulfuric acid. The P2O5 content in gypsum was largely decreased in this atmosphoric solution process.

Effects of Salt Concentration in Soybean Sauce on the Physicochemical Properties of Pre-rigor Ground Hanwoo Muscle

  • This study was conducted to examine the effect of salt concentration in soybean sauce (ganjang) on pre-rigor ground Hanwoo (Korean native cattle) muscle. Although adding soybean sauce reduced pH of pre-rigor Hanwoo muscle, it improved the water holding capacity (WHC), cooking loss, total protein solubility, myofibrillar fragmentation index (MFI), 2-thiobar-bituric acid (TBA) values, and textural properties by increasing salt concentration in the soybean sauce. In particular, adding soybean sauce inhibited lipid oxidation despite increasing salt concentration. An increased salt concentration in the soybean sauce in pre-rigor Hanwoo muscle tended to make the meat have lower lightness and higher redness and yellowness values. Although soybean sauce had a significantly lower pre-rigor salting effect than sodium chloride in terms of cooking loss and total protein solubility (p<0.05), soybean sauce improved myofibrillar fragmentation and lipid oxidation when compared with sodium chloride. Furthermore, no significant differences in textural properties were observed between adding soybean sauce and sodium chloride at the same salt concentrations. Therefore, soybean sauce can be a functional curing material for pre-rigor muscle.

METHODS TO IMPROVE UTILIZATION OF RICE STRAW I. EFFECTS OF MOISTENING, SODIUM CHLORIDE AND CHOPPING ON INTAKE AND DIGESTIBILITY

  • Two studies were conducted using 40 cross-bred bulls to study the effect of chopping, moistening with water or common salt solution on the nutritive value of rice straw (variety BG-400). Moistening with water did not significantly effect digestibility or intake of rice straw. As compared to straw fed in the long form, chopping did not significantly influence intake (2.33 vs 1.97kg $100kgBW^{-1}day^{-1}$, respectively), but significantly (p<0.05) decreased the digestibility (41.6 vs 37.4%) and intake of digestible dry matter (0.99 vs 0.74kg $100kgBW^{-1}day^{-1}$). Rice straw moistened with 2 or 4% common sea salt solution and directly fed to animals (Exp. 1) did not significantly effect its digestibility (43.9 and 43.1%, respectively) or intake (2.66 or 2.59kg $100kgBW^{-1}day^{-1}$, respectively), but over night storing of 2% salt solution sprayed straw (Exp. 2) significantly reduced its digestibility (33.6%). The latter is difficult to explain because the sodium concentration (mg/g straw dry matter) was lower than 4% salt solution treatment used in experiment 1 (3.30 vs 5.22). It is concluded that chopping, moistening with water or NaCl salt solution did not significantly improve the nutritive value of rice straw.

Quality Characteristics of Samgyetang according to the Sodium Chloride Level and with/without Phosphate in Broth

  • In this study, the effect of sodium chloride (salt) concentration and phosphate on the quality properties of samgyetang was investigated. Increasing the salt concentration by 0.5% increased the moisture and ash content, salinity, water holding capacity (WHC), and thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS), whereas the protein content, pH, cooking losses, and shear forces were decreased. Addition of phosphate to the brine increased the pH and WHC, but decreased the TBARS, cooking losses, and shear forces. In a sensory evaluation, the scores for flavor and overall acceptability were the highest when the salt concentration of the brine was 2.0%. Overall, this study shows that the salt concentration and addition of phosphate to the brine of samgyetang substantially influences the overall quality of the chicken breast. Based on quality measurements and sensory scores, a 2.0% salt concentration with the addition of phosphate appear to be the most suitable conditions for the manufacturing of marinated samgyetang.

혼화재 종류 및 치환율이 염수에 침지한 콘크리트의 내염성능 향상에 미치는 영향에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Effect of the Kinds and Replacement Ratios of Mineral Admixtures on the Development of Chloride Invasion Resistance Property of Concrete Immersed in Salt Water)

  • This paper investigate that the effect of the concrete containing mineral admixtures(pozzolanic materials such as fly-ash, ground granulated blast-furnace slag, silica fume and meta kaolin) on the resistance properties to chloride ion invasion. The purposed testing procedure was applied to the concrete added mineral admixtures for $3\sim4$ replacement ratios under W/B ratios ranged from 0.40 to 0.55. Specimens were immersed in $3.6\%$ NaCl solution for 330 days, and penetration depth, water soluble chloride contents and acid soluble chloride contents were measured in 28, 91, 182 and 330 days. Then, diffusion coefficient were calculated using total chloride contents. As a results. the kinds of mineral admixture and replacement ratios had a great effect on the resistance property of the concrete to chloride ion invasion compared with the plain concrete. And the optimal replacement ratios of mineral admixture had a limitation for each admixtures. The amount of acid soluble chloride ions and water soluble chloride ions were varied with the kinds of mineral admixtures and the penetration depth from the concrete skin. Chloride diffusion coefficient of each concretes decreased with the time elapsed. and the diffusion coefficients of the concrete immersed salt water for 330 days had a establishment with the compressive strength measured before immersing.

저칼슘 식이 섭취시 식염첨가가 흰쥐의 골격대사에 미치는 영향 (Effect of Sodium Chloride Supplementation on Bone Metablism in Rats Consuming a Low Calcium Diet)

  • This study was performed to evaluate the effect of sodium cholride supplementation on bone metabolism in female rats consuming a low calcium diet. Twenty five female rats were divided into three dietary groups (control Na : 0.1038%, 1% Na : 1.036%, 2% Na : 2.072%). All experimental diets contained 0.27% Ca and were fed to rats with deionized water for 7 weeks. Bone mineral density(BMD) and bone mineral content(BMC) of total body, spine and femur were measured using energy x-ray absorptiometry(DEXA) by small animal software. Then Ca efficiency was calculated from BMD and BMC. Serum Ca, P, Na and urine Ca, P, Na were determined. Urinary pyridinoline, serum ALP were measured to monitor bone resorption. Following 7 weeks, sodium cholride supplemented groups had higher urinary Ca excreteion, urinary pyridinoline, crosslinks value and serum ALP. There was no significant difference in case of serum Ca among all groups. Sodium chloride supplemnted groups had lower Ca effciency of total, spine and femur BMD and BMC than that of control group. In conclusion high salt intake not only increases urinary Ca excretion as urinary Na excretion does but also increase bone resorption and decrease Ca efficiency of each bone. It is been suggested that high salt intake may be harmful for bone maintenance. Therfore, the decrease of salt intake to the level of recommendation would be desirable.

다층구조확산을 고려한 제설제에 노출된 콘크리트의 염화물 해석 (Analysis for Chloride Penetration in Concrete under Deicing Agent using Multi Layer Diffusion)

  • 콘크리트는 경제적이며 고내구성 건설재료이지만, 염해에 노출된 경우 매립된 철근의 부식으로 인해 내구성에 대한 문제가 발생한다. 최근 들어 동절기에 제설제가 많이 사용되고 있는데, 제설제의 사용은 콘크리트 표면에 미세균열과 박리를 증가시키고 용해된 제설제는 매립된 철근의 부식을 야기한다. 기존의 염화물 지배방정식인 Fick's 2nd Law의 해석기법은 표면이 열화된 콘크리트의 염해특성을 평가하지 못하므로 이에 대한 고려가 필요하다. 본 연구에서는 콘크리트 다층구조 확산 모델과 시간의존성 염화물 확산을 이용하여 제설제에 노출된 콘크리트의 염화물 해석기법을 제안하였다. 이를 위해 18년 경과된 콘크리트 도로교의 염해실태를 분석하였으며, 역해석을 통하여 표면열화깊이 및 열화된 콘크리트 층의 증가된 염화물 확산성을 평가하였다. 제안된 기법은 30MPa 콘크리트에서 12.5~15.0mm 열화깊이와 2배 증가된 열화층의 염화물 확산성을 나타내었다. 본 해석기법은 표면열화 및 표면 강화 등 2개의 다른 확산성을 가진 콘크리트의 염화물 거동을 평가하는데 효과적으로 적용될 수 있다.

콘크리트의 동결융해 내구성에 공기량, 제설제, 노출조건이 미치는 영향에 관한 연구 (Effect of Air Contents, Deicing Salts, and Exposure Conditions on the Freeze-Thaw Durability of the Concrete)

  • 콘크리트의 박리(scaling)는 수분의 존재하에 동결융해 싸이클에 따른 콘크리트의 점진적인 표면열화이다. 특히, 이것은 제설제에 염화물의 존재가 콘크리트 표면박리(스켈링)와 더불어 심한 경우, 굵은골재의 노출 및 탈리로 이어질 수 있다. 본 연구에서는 콘크리트의 스켈링에 대한 저염화물계 제설제(low chloride deicier, LCD)와 염화칼슘 및 염화나트륨 제설제의 상대적인 영향을 ASTM C672에 준하여 실시하였다. 시험 제설제의 농도는 1, 4, 10% 이고, 수돗물은 기준으로 사용하였다. 박리량은 중량으로 평가하였다. 연구결과 4% 농도를 적용하였을 때, 동결융해 56 싸이클 후 콘크리트의 박리는 수돗물에 비해 LCD 용액에서 약 9배, 염화칼슘 용액에서 약 18배, 염화나트륨 용액에서 약 33배 정도 크게 발생하였다. 용액의 농도에 따라서는 고농도인 10%에 비해 4% 농도에서 표면 박리가 가장 현저하게 발생하였는데, 이는 스켈링 발생이 염농도가 3~4%일 때 가장 현저해진다는 기존의 연구결과와 일치함을 알 수 있었다(일본콘크리트공학회, 1999). 또한 콘크리트가 경화된 후, 현장에서 염화나트륨 및 저염화물계 제설제(LCD, 염소이온 중량비 50%)가 살포되고 동결융해 싸이클에 노출된 경우, 제설제에 노출되지 않은 경우의 콘크리트 동해열화에 대해, 콘크리트의 공기량에 따른 영향을 실험적으로 연구하였다. 연구 결과 동결융해 싸이클에 따른 콘크리트 시편은 제설제에 노출되지 않은 것 보다 염화물 제설제 노출에서 스켈링이 더 심한 것으로 나타났고, 염화물 제설제에 노출된 시편이 노출되지 않은 시편 보다 중량 손실이 2배나 되었다. 콘크리트 시편의 상대 동탄성계수는 염화물 제설제에 노출되지 않은 것과 비교하여 염화물 제설제에 노출된 것에서 더 빠르게 감소하였다. 또한 염화나트륨 제설제에 노출된 콘크리트 시편의 상대 동탄성계수는 저염화물계 제설제에 노출된 것 보다 더 빠르게 감소하였다. AE 콘크리트는 염화물과 동결융해 싸이클에 노출되었을 때, Non-AE 콘크리트 보다 성능저하가 크게 지연되었다.

Synthesis and Hydroxyl Radicals Scavenging Activity of 2-Pyridine-acetyl-N-trimethyl Chitosan Chloride

  • A novel chitosan derivative with double quaternary ammonium salt-2-pyridine-acetyl-N-trimethyl chitosan chloride (PATMCS) was synthesized and the antioxidant activity of PATMCS against hydroxyl radicals was assessed. The results indicated that PATMCS had potent hydroxyl scavenging activity. The $IC_{50}$ of PATMCS was 0.13 mg/mL. PATMCS showed 100% scavenging effect at a dose of 0.8 mg/mL which markedly better than that of N-trimethyl chitosan chloride (TMCS). It was confirmed that quaternary chitosan derivatives showed potent antioxidant activity. PATMCS has double quaternary ammonium salt structure in the molecules. Therefore, the antioxidant activity of PATMCS was better than TMCS. The above results are theoretically fundamental for further development and making use of chitosan resources to prepare new antioxidants.

Neutron irradiation of alloy N and 316L stainless steel in contact with a molten chloride salt

  • Capsules containing NaCl-MgCl2 salt with 316L stainless steel or alloy N samples were irradiated in the Ohio State University Research Reactor for 21 nonconsecutive hours. A custom irradiation vessel was designed for this purpose, and details on its design and construction are given. Stainless steel samples that were irradiated during exposure had less corrosive attack than samples exposed to the same conditions without irradiation. Alloy N samples showed no significant effect of irradiation. This work shows a method for conducting in-reactor irradiation-corrosion experiments in static molten salts and presents preliminary data showing that neutron irradiation may decelerate corrosion of alloys in molten chloride salts.
