  • In this study, Polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) was applied to Strain Hardening Cement Composites (SHCC) for penetrating water repellency. The penetration depth of PDMS, strength of SHCC, and chloride ion penetration resistance of SHCC were investigated. As a result of measuring penetration depth of PDMS when applying different application method, it was confirmed that all methods satisfied the requirements of KS F 4930. Although the immersion method showed the largest penetration depth, the spray method was considered to be more appropriate considering the ease of field application. Compressive strength tests showed that the penetration depth of PDMS decreased as the compressive strength of SHCC increased. The compressive strength of M4-A and M4-B specimens with large PDMS penetration depths decreased by 9.6% and 8.0%, respectively, compared with those of M4 specimens produced without PDMS. Compressive strengths of the M1-A and M1-B specimens with small PDMS penetration depths were reduced by 4% and 2.2%, respectively, compared with the M1 specimen. As a result, it can be seen that the strength reduction rate of SHCC increases as the penetration depth of PDMS increases. The chlorine ion penetration tests showed that the chlorine ion penetration resistance increases with the penetration depth of PDMS.

  • A short and efficient synthesis, solvent extraction and potentiometric measurements of new thiazole-containing naphtho-crown ethers are reported. The naphthalene moiety enhances the ammonium ion selectivity over potassium ion. The selectivity of ${NH_4}^+/K^+$ follows the trend $3\;{\approx}\;2\;>\;1$, indicating that the differences in conformational changes of 2 and 3 in forming ammonium complexes affect little on the resulting ammonium/potassium extraction selectivity ratio. The ammonium ion-selective electrodes were prepared with noctylphenyl ether plasticized poly(vinyl chloride) membranes containing 1-4 the effect of one naphthalene unit introduced on either right (2) or left (3) side of thiazolo-crown ether on their potentiometric properties (e.g., ammonium ion selectivity over other cations, response slopes, and detection limits) were not apparent. However, the ammonium ion selectivity of 1, 2 and 3 over other alkali metal and alkaline earth metal cations is 10-100 times higher than that of nonactin.

  • The permeability of concrete influences the durability of concrete remarkably. This paper describes a programme of permeability tests carried out to determine the differences between permeability coefficients derived using water, oxygen and chloride ions. Tests have been carried out on three concretes having water/cement ratios of 0.45, 0.55, 0.65 to measure their water, chloride-ion and gas permeability coefficients. The test results indicate that the permeability of concrete increase with the increase water cement ratios. The water and gas permeability coefficients is presented from $1.43$\times$10^{-10} to 19.01$\times$10^{-10}m/s$ and from $0.88$\times$10^{-10}$ to $1.59$\times$10^{-10}$m$^2$for concrete of different water cement ratios. The current intensity passing through the concrete is presented from 4504 to 4920 C.

  • Silver nitrate colored method that measure easily penetration depth of chloride ion has been used, recently. But, characteristics of silver nitrate colored method hasn't examined well. Therefore, we are aim to examine characteristics of colored method. According to experiment results, when the colored method was applied in concrete, it is reasonable that $AgNO_3$ solution more than 0.05N concentration was sprayed. Chloride concentration difference in colored parts was about 20ppm when $AgNO_3$ of two concentration (0.05N, 0.1N) in concrete was sprayed.

  • In this paper, enhancement of corrosion and chloride resistance of high performance self compacting concrete (SCC) through incorporating nanosilica into the binder has been investigated. For this purpose, different mixtures were designed with different amounts of silica fume and nano silica admixtures. Different binder contents were also investigated to observe the binder content effect on the concrete properties. Corrosion behavior was evaluated by chloride penetration and resitivity tests. Water absorption and capillary absorption were also measured as other durability-related properties. The results showed that water absorption, capillary absorption and Cl ion percentage decreased rather significantly in the mixtures containing admixtures especially blend of silica fume and nano silica. By addition of the admixtures, resistivity of the SCC mixtures increased which can lead to reduction of corrosion probability.

  • Concrete has been considered as a semi-permanent structural material, because its excellent durability. Recently, durability decline of concrete construction by environmental pollution is becoming social problem. The durability of high durable structure is declined by carbonate, chloride permeation and deterioration of waterproof performance, etc. This study of penetrating surface protection materials evaluated about carbonation, chloride permeation, waterproof performance, and durability of abrasion, etc. It is profitable in durability that spread penetrating surface protection materials

  • The Phellodendri Cortex of Phellodendron amurense (Rutaceae) is known to contain a number of isoquinoline alkaloid, and berberine, palmatine, jateorrhizine, phellodendrine and magnoflorine are the major constituents of protoberberine alkaloids. For the determination of protoberberine alkaloids from Phellodendri Cortex and berberine chloride from the preparation, the new spectrophotometric method was developed with a simple and selective sample clean-up using thiocyanatocobaltate[II] complex ion. Samples were extracted with 0.1 mM hydrochloric acid, potassium biphthalate reagent, thiocyanatocobaltate reagent and 1.2-dichloroethane for 60 min. The absorbance of protoberberine alkaloid complexes in 1.2-dichloroethane solution was measured at 625 nm. Calibration curve for berberine was linear over the concentration range of 0.05~0.30 mg/ml 1.2-dichloroethane. The method proved to be rapid, simple and reliable for the determination of protoberberine alkaloids from Phellodendri Cortex and berberine chloride from the preparation.

  • Decing agent with chloride promote frost damage of concrete structure in winter period. From the safetyside, however, it is difficult to stop using chloride. Therefore, the durable concrete is required from now on. In this paper, long-term freezing and thawing test was carried out using the freezing water containing $CaCl_{2}$ to consider the concrete scaling according to the kind of binders, such as OPC, Flyash, Slag+Fa. and Slag As a result, it was found that the degree of scaling is different with containing slag being considered to prevent the penetration chloride ion and according to each binders.
