  • In this paper, we propose to method of recognizing printed chinese characters which combine the coventional deterministic methods and the neural networks. Firstly, we extract four directional vector of strokes from chinese characters. Secondly, we make the mesh of the center of gravity in the vector and then constitute the H x8 feature matrix using black pixel lenth from each meshs. This normalized feature matrix value offer as the input of neural network for classifying into the 14 character types. And this calssified character classify again into Busu group by the Busu recognizing neural network. Finally, we recognize each characters using the distance of similarity between input characters and reference characters. The usefulness of the proposed algorithm is evaluated by experimenting with recognizing the chinese characters.

  • The continuous development of information technology had led people into the era of new media. New technologies, in its rapid development, have also produced impacts on traditional visual communication design. As an integral element in traditional visual communication design, Chinese characters have no longer confined to traditional paper media but turned to dynamic video space. In light of the changing globalization tendency, dynamic Chinese characters are producing increasing influences in motion graphics. It is an inevitable trend in character typography design that visual communication will make a breakthrough in the traditional expression boundary. This paper analyzes the influence of dynamic Chinese characters upon motion graphics in view of typography and style, and puts forward with the typography design that can conform to the development of the time, spread information and express emotions in a better way.

  • In this paper, some terms of high school mathematics which read Chinese characters phonetically in Hangul are studied semantically. Nowadays, most terms of high school mathematics are terms of Chinese characters given the reading of them in Hangul alphabet. In such terms of Chinese characters, there are many loan-words from daily life and newly coined terms. Some such terms are examined in respect of meaningfulness and rule-ness. The degree of meaningfulness and rule-ness of loan-words from daily life are relative. Students seems familiar to loan-words usually, but it is difficult to know whether students seems to be familiar to loan-words or not. Degree of familiarity to a certain loan-word must be relative. In loan-words, there are such terms whose mathematical meaning is different from daily life meaning. Such terms are strong in rule-ness. Newly coined terms are strong in rule-ness. Students are not familiar to newly coined terms which are not used in daily life and have only mathematical meaning. In coining new terms using Chinese character, unit characters are related directly or indirectly to concept which unit characters want to express. So, It is possible to guess something unit characters want to express by investigating them. According to Vinner(1991), images can be evoked. But in case of reading Chinese characters phonetically in Hangul, it can not be guaranteed for Hangul mathematical terms to evoke images which the original mathematical terms evoked. To solve such problems semantic investigation of mathematical terms has been suggested. Through this process, transplanting images which the original mathematical terms evoked into Hangul terms are planned.

  • This article aims to analyze the perception of Korean-Chinese in South Korea to understand the mentality of South Korean people in a multicultural society through exploring Korean films in which Korean-Chinese characters have been represented since 2000. For this purpose, Korean-Chinese characters represented in Korean Films are divided into male and female. It could be said that South Koreans are biased against Korean-Chinese, who are considered 'others' under the economic and cultural hierarchy. Female characters are presented as 'pure' and 'frail' in the migration narrative while male characters are 'indecent' and 'brutal' individuals in crime narrative films. Meanwhile, Haemoo [Sea fog] is a story about economically weak Koreans and Korean-Chinese who were in economical conflict with each other, but were victims of the economical restructuring systems under neo-liberalism.

  • As Chinese characters occupies more than 70% of words we currently use, the education of Chinese characters is becoming important day by day to accurately deliver the meaning of words in our language life. In recent, there are increasing concerns on writing Chinese characters correctly, especially the order of stroke, as well as memorizing the meaning and the sound of a character. Books and Internet contents on Chinese character writing is emerging. However, currently available Internet media on the Chinese characters education only illuminates recitation and interpretation. Even though some books contain the chapter concerning the order of stroke of a character, those only force simple repetitions. In this paper, we propose a design and implementation of teaming system for writing of Chinese character based on web which enables the user-directed teaming. Using the system, a user can manage the status of learning by oneself. Additionally, we can enhance the efficiency of learning by making users understood the correct reading and writing in Chinese character education.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze high school students' understanding levels about earth science terms written in Chinese characters according to learners' characteristics. In order to investigate how the responses vary according to their characteristics, first of all, proper scientific terms are selected, and then corre sponding questions about them are offered as subjects, which consists of a Korean characters type, a picture type, and a Korean and Chinese characters type. During paper test and interview, the questions are given to fifteen students from general high schools in Jecheon, Chungbuk Province. The results of the study are as follows; Students in formal operation level and field-independency answered very well and also the terms of Chinese characters type and picture type improve the students' understanding and memorization. Generally, Chinese characters have more positive influence on their learning than the negative. Therefore, in general, it seems that it's more effective to explain the sound and meaning of terms in detail and to give learners enough time to draw a picture about each term by themselves when scientific terms are delivered to students in Chinese characters in class.

  • Based on the kinetic typography principle and the structure features of Chinese characters, this study took the Chinese'24 solar terms' theme dynamic poster as the research object, explored the visual expression of dynamic Chinese characters, and tried to summarize the visual expression law of Chinese characters in dynamic poster design. It can be found that, there could be 6 different types of Chinese character expressions in the 24 solar terms poster design. Among them, 'Drawing' design method has the meaning of text structure and form expression, and 'Assembling' design method has the meaning of text stroke and texture association, also, 'Forming' design method bring its meaning through stroke deformation, 'Transforming' design method conveys the content through text disintegration, 'Replacing' design method mainly bring the meaning through simulation, while 'Rotation' design method always express through visual three-dimensional and space. Finally, the findings could not only provide analytical logic and methods for the expression of Chinese characters in dynamic poster design, but also fill the lack of formative research on dynamic Chinese characters, which hopefully provide basic information for the research related to dynamic Chinese character structure, as well as the dynamic poster designers.

  • The goal of this thesis is to make a comparative study about the variant form of the Chinese character in the five sorts of old maps drawing outside of the main gates of old map including DeDongYei-jido. The main task of this thesis can be classified under three heads - (1) introducing the literature of comparative study in the five sorts of old maps including DeDongYei-jido (2) classification of variant form in the five sorts of old maps (3) characteristic of variant form in the five sorts of old maps. In this thesis, aspect of variant form is classified under six head - (1) variation of the whole shape of the character (2) taking place the variation in both sides of Chinese character (3) taking place the variation in part (4) taking place variation in the strokes of the Chinese character (5) misusing different characters (6) changing different characters. This thesis explains some characteristic of variant form - (1) simplification of the shape of characters (2) using the Hou-qi-zi(後起字, Chinese character which is actually the same but made the next) (3) replacing the overlapped both sides of Chinese character with omit mark (4) a wrongly written character (5) discovering the variant form such as variant form of 廣, 广 variant form of 廛, variant form of 院 which was not recorded in Chinese literature. From now on, there should be some collections of variant form of Korean style and study. we are going to have to standardize aspect of variation and rule of variant form in old maps until we have to make some ways to recognize the block letter.

  • To avoid calamities, the Chinese use different euphemisms in various fields of occupation and region. There are a lot of linguistic taboos concerned with Xieyin that shows the special characteristic of chinese characters. If two characters are homophones and one of them is considered offensive or misfortune, the Chinese prefer to substitute another expression for them in the actual conversations. These substitutes are called euphemisms. As an combined expression of psychological insecurity and language, euphemisms were not only used in the past, but also now they are still in common use. Although some of the chinese euphemisms are not used anymore nowadays, some of them are still used. There are a large number of chinese euphemisms in common use, but some special ones are used in particular fields only. This article focused on the linguistic taboos in some special fields like different regions, occupations and some others related with calamities, and tried to make a distinction from other previous studies. Language reflects culture and euphemism is a mirror of culture. The study of chinese linguistic taboos and euphemisms is expected to be some help to understand the chinese customs and linguistic features.

  • When Chinese character used in Korea, so did the characters' pronunciation, so many Korean Chinese characters today have similar pronunciation with Chinese, but since Korean and Chinese pronunciations were preserved and developed in different alphabets, the written letter of the pronunciation also differs. This study on Chinese education, has constructed and implemented an easy way to study Chinese pronunciations by creating conversion rule set between Chinese pronunciation, Chinese Hanyu latin Pinyin and Korean chinese character pronunciation consisting of an initial sound, a medial vowel, and a final consonant. This study has established web version and application version of this conversion rule set education system to enhance Chinese education.
