중국의 지역별 수출과 경제성장의 인과관계 분석(1952-2004) (Causal Relationship between Exports and Economic Growth in China (1952~2004))

  • 본 논문은 1952-2004년 걸쳐 중국의 수출과 경제성장 간의 인과관계를 지역별(동부, 중부, 서부), 시대별(개혁개방 전후)로 고찰해 본 것이다. 이를 위해 먼저 변수들의 안정성 여부를 검토하기 위해 단위근 검정을 실시했으며, 다음으로 변수간 장기적인 안정관계를 확인하기 위해 공적분 검정을 수행했고, 마지막으로 오차수정모형을 추정함으로써 그랜저 인과관계 검정을 실시했다. 분석결과 전체기간에서 동부지역은 수출이 경제성장에 유의한 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났으며, 중서부지역에서는 그 정도가 약하게 나타났다. 동부지역의 경우 개방정책이 집중적으로 나타난 지역적 특성을 반영하여 개혁개방 이전에는 수출과 경제성장 간의 인과관계가 나타나지 않았으나, 개혁개방 이후에는 수출이 경제성장에 유의한 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 개혁개방을 전후하여 변화가 없을 것으로 예상했던 중서부 지역의 경우, 중부지역은 개혁개방 이전에는 무역과 경제성장 간에 인과관계가 보이지 않았으나 개혁개방 이후에는 양방향 인과관계가 강하게 나타났으며, 서부지역의 경우에는 오히려 개혁개방 이전에 무역이 경제성장에 유의한 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타난 반면 개혁개방 이후에는 반대로 경제성장이 무역에 유의한 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다.

비관세장벽의 수출효과 - 한국을 중심으로 (Effects of Non-tariff Measures on Exports)

  • This study aims to quantify the effects of non-tariff measures (NTMs) on exports in the Korean manufacturing industry. To do this, we employ product-level export data that includes information about whether or not a product is affected by NTMs. One of the main results is that NTMs (SPS/TBT) on average led to reduction in Korean exports. However, the effects of NTMs differed depending on the income level of the NTM-imposing country. The NTMs imposed by high-income countries, such as U.S.A. and Japan, were found to impede Korean exports, whereas the export effect of NTMs imposed by low-income countries such as China was found to not be statistically significant. In addition, the results analyzed based across industries, income level, and types of NTMs are as follows. First, NTMs imposed on textile-related products generally hindered exports regardless of the type of NTMs, but its negative impact on exports was noticeable in the case of NTMs originating from high-income countries. On the other hand, chemical product-related NTMs were found to lead to an increase in Korean exports, and it had a positive effect in the case of SPS imposed by low-income countries. In other industries except for textile- and chemical-related products, the effects of NTMs on exports were either statistically insignificant or showed inconsistent patterns.

An Applied Study of the Analytic Network Process to Assess Country Conditions for Korean Steel Exports

  • In this study, we demonstrate how the Analytic Network Process (ANP) model which is combined with Michael Porter's diamond framework can be used for assessing conditions of selected countries : Brazil. India and China for Korean steel exports. The problem of assessing country conditions requires a model that evaluates several factors on different dimensions. Those dimensions are needed for ranking them according to their likeliness of being a target for Korean steel exports. The ANP consists of four kinds of dimensions called control hierarchy : benefits, opportunities, costs, risks, each of which represents the relationship of its own clusters and elements. To develop the clusters and elements of each dimension, Porter's diamond framework will be used. The final results show that China is the most attractive country to export steel, followed by Brazil and India. This is consistent with the information that we found with respect to the elements that were taken into consideration.

중국위안화의 평가절상가능성과 대중수출기업의 대응방안 (Perspective on Revaluation of Chinese Yuan and Effects on the Korean Exports)

  • China has pegged its currency to the US dollar (at RMB 8.3 to the dollar) since 1994. The yuan's dollar peg has increased demand for chinese exports, which account for about a third of gross domestic product. The peg has also helped to attract $308 billion in foreign investment. But there has been criticism that China has over the past two years been engaging in protracted, large-scale intervention in one direction in exchange markets. According to many reports, RMB is undervalued by somewhere between 15 and 30% by manipulation. China may not want to float the currency at once, since doing so would have a dramatic and negative effect on the economy. However, there has so far been strong pressure from trading partners including the Unite States, Japan, EU. Considered all these things, China may eventually allow some changes in the Yuan's value. This may come in the form of widening a band of movement for the currency, rather than letting it float freely in the market.

중국 품목별 수출입이 세계 경제에 미치는 영향 실증분석 (The Impacts of Chinese Seaborne Trade Volume on The World Economy)

  • 세계은행 통계에 따르면 2013~2016년 기간 중 세계 경제 성장에 대한 중국의 기여도는 31.6%인 것으로 나타났다. 이는 미국, EU 및 일본의 기여도를 합한 29.0%에 비해 높은 수치로서 중국 경제가 세계 경제에 미치는 영향력이 상당히 크다고 볼 수 있다. 본 연구는 중국의 주요 품목별(화학제품, 곡물, 철재, 원유, 컨테이너) 연도별 수출입 해상물동량이 세계 경제성장에 미치는 영향을 시계열 데이터 분석 모형을 적용하여 분석하였다. 총 분석기간은 1999~2016년이며, 제1기(1999~2007년)와 제2기(2008~2016년)의 시기별 분석을 수행함으로써 중국 무역이 세계 경제에 미치는 영향력 측면에서 시기별로 어떠한 구조적 변화가 발생했는지 조명하였다. 특히 대다수 선행연구들이 세계 무역이 세계 경제에 미치는 영향력을 분석하였다면, 본 연구는 중국 무역의 영향력을 분석하여 세계 무역 대국으로 부상하고 있는 중국을 집중적으로 분석하였다는 데 의의가 있다.

중국 수출확대를 위한 한국 농식품 브랜드 아이덴티티 정립 (A Study of Korean Agri-Food Brand Identities for Expanding Exports to China)

  • Purpose - The purpose of this study is to target Chinese consumers of Korean agri-food through the analysis of agri-food brand identity images to set future directions for proposed agri-food exports to China. Since negotiations began for a free trade agreement (FTA) between Korea and China, some Koreans have worried about the Korean agriculture sector. The world trading system has undergone many changes in recent years. Since the start of FTA negotiations on agriculture, China and Korea have faced a heightened sense of crisis. China is trying to export agricultural products so actively that its agricultural exports could increase by more than 7% annually. China exported about one-tenth of its agricultural products to Korea in the period 2002-2010. Recently, the importance of brand identity has tended to increase, as the world becomes one unified market. In this situation, we should try to promote agri-food exports to China. It is very important to understand consumers' recognition of Korean food and the image of the Korean agri-food industry, to establish an export strategy. Research design, data, and methodology - This study targeted 2,800 adult men and women aged 25-59 years living in four major cities in China (Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, and Qingdao) with a household income within the top 10% level in the China, using the one-to-one interview survey method. In addition, four groups by region (eight people per group) for a total of 32 groups were surveyed by using the focus group interview (FGI) research method, and impressions of imported agri-food were surveyed using 17 questions about fresh agri-food and 22 questions on processed agri-food. Factor analysis, brand positioning, biplot analysis, and so on, were carried out based on the results of these surveys. This research presents the brand identity of Korean food; according to the analyses, the brand identity is based on trust, safety, and attractiveness. Result - Factor analysis results showed that Chinese consumers expect four major qualities in imported fresh agri-food: freshness/safety, attractive appearance, premium branding, and excellent taste/quality. In the case of processed agri-food, it turned out that Chinese consumers are focused on safety/hygiene/freshness, health, and taste. In addition, in the fresh agri-food analysis by country, American foods had the upper hand; the image of American foods was also recognized as the most positive for processed agri-food. Meanwhile, according to the biplot analysis, Korean agri-food is strongly preferred for its appearance, but no country is strongly preferred as regards the level of freshness/safety that is expected by Chinese consumers. Conclusions - In this study, we analyzed the image of imported agri-food expected by Chinese consumers by reconstructing agri-food characteristics from the brand perspective. The research result shows that a Korean brand identity must be the ultimate goal for activities undertaken to enhance the image of Korean agri-food in the future. Additional research is needed because brand image can be formed through various channels.

Analysis of Indonesian Rubber Export Supply for 1995-2015

  • This study aims is to determine the factors that influence Indonesian rubber export supply based on the export destination countries. Indonesian rubber export supply is thought to be influenced by the variables like the volume of Indonesia rubber exports, the price of Indonesian natural rubber, the volume of domestic rubber production, the export volume of the previous period, the rupiah exchange rate against US$, the interest rate and real Gross Domestic Product (GDP). The data used is the annual time series from 1995-2015 based on export countries encompassing the United States, China, and Japan. Multiple linear regression with the Ordinary Least Square (OLS) method is applied to analyse the data. The results showed that the volume of Indonesian rubber exports to China is not influenced by domestic natural rubber prices and the Rupiah exchange rate against the Chinese Yuan. The volume of Indonesian rubber exports to Japan is influenced by the volume of domestic rubber production. The volume of Indonesian rubber exports to the three destination countries is influenced by the volume of domestic rubber production, interest rate, and real GDP.

The Impact of US Export Controls on Korean Semiconductor Exports

  • This study empirically investigates the impact of recent US export controls on China on South Korea's semiconductor exports. We analyze South Korean export data to shed light on the repercussions of US export restrictions on a third country. Our findings reveal a significant decline in Korean semiconductor exports following the October 2022 imposition of US controls. This decline was most pronounced in the memory, discrete devices, and discrete device components subsectors of the semiconductor industry. In addition, we observed a decrease in unit prices, especially for memory semiconductors, pointing to downward pressure on South Korea's high-value-added semiconductor exports. These results provide some evidence of substantial negative impacts of US export controls on South Korea's semiconductor industry, and particularly with regard to its high-tech products.

ASEAN내 한·중·일간 경합관계와 한국의 대(對)ASEAN 수출 결정요인 분석: 위안화 및 엔화의 영향을 중심으로 (Competition of Korea, Japan and China in ASEAN and Determinants of Korea's Exports to ASEAN Countries: Do Chinese and Japanese Exchange Rates Matter?)

  • 본 논문은 ASEAN내에서 한 중 일간 수출경쟁관계를 살펴보고, 일본 엔화 또는 중국 위안화 환율변화가 우리나라의 대(對)ASEAN 수출에 미친 영향을 시계열 분석방법을 이용하여 고찰한다. 이를 위해 우선 한 중 일의 품목별 ASEAN 시장점유율 및 수출경합도지수를 도출하여 한 중 일의 ASEAN시장내 경합관계 및 변화추이를 살펴본다. 더 나아가 다양한 공적분 접근법을 사용하여 우리나라의 대(對)ASEAN 주요국별 수출함수를 추정함으로써 일본 및 중국의 환율변화가 우리의 대(對)ASEAN 수출에 미치는 영향을 살펴본다. 분석결과, 과거 가장 높았던 일본의 ASEAN 시장점유율이 중국에 의해 대체되었고, 한국의 시장점유율은 큰 변화가 없으며 그 과정에서 한 중 일간 수출경합관계는 더 치열해진 것으로 나타났다. 한편 일본 및 중국의 실질환율 변화가 우리나라의 대(對)ASEAN 수출에 미치는 영향은 매우 제한적이며, ASEAN의 경제성장이 우리나라의 대(對)ASEAN 수출증가를 견인한 것으로 나타났다. 이는 우리 기업들이 ASEAN을 글로벌 가치사슬에 포함하여 직접투자 및 중간재 교역을 급속히 확대한 결과로 보인다.
