The purpose of the study is to compare and analyze the elementary science textbooks' contents between the United States(Science Horizons) and Korea for teaching the Returnee students. The analyzed contents are the name of chapters, the number of chapters, the page amounts of chapters, the structure of chapters and the studying time of chapters. The results of this study are : 1. Korean science textbook's number is 20. 'Science Horizons' has 6. Korean science textbook's total number of chapter is 58, 'Science Horizons' is 75. Korean science textbook's total number of page is 1,60.3, 'Science Horizons' is 2,106. So 'Science Horizons' has more number of chapter and page than Korean textbooks. 2. The ratio of Korean science textbook's contents is as follows: physical area, 22.4%; chemistry area, 12 1%: biology area, 39.6%; earth science area, 25.9%. But the ratio of 'Science Horizons' science textbook's contents is as follows: physical area,21.3%; chemistry area,4.0%; biology area, 46.7%; earth science area. 28.0%. 3. In case of 'Predicting the Weather' chapter, Korean science textbook has 3 lessons, 17 themes and 11 activities, whereas' Science Horizons' has 5 lessons, 10 themes and 5 activities. 4. The themes or chapters of 'Science Horizons' to propose deeper than Korea are about animals and plants, energy and movement, weather and season. our body, and earth and outer space. In case of Korean textbook are about chemistry area, the rock and volcanic activity and electric circuit. There are some differences between Korean and the United States' elementary science curriculum and textbook's contents. And the returnee students has many troubles to adapt korean science curriculum, textbooks and educational environment,;. Therefore, teachers should know and understand that, and help them.
The purpose of this study was to analyze the STS (science-technology-society) contents in chemistry chapters of middle school science textbooks standardized by 7th national curriculum, and to investigate chemistry teachers' perception of STS education. This study was based on 8 essential elements in STS education suggested by Yager and 9 activities in SATIS (science and technology in society). The questionnaire and interview were used to investigate chemistry teachers' perception. As a result of this study, the average value of the STS contents in chemistry chapters of 7 kinds of middle school science textbooks was 22.4%, and the STS contents were preponderated to essential elements of science application and local and community relevance. And STS contents showed that science 2 textbooks were the most of all and in order of science 1 textbooks and science 3 textbooks. As a result of analysis by activities in SATIS, most activities were practice activity, problem-solving and decision making, and structured discussion. Chemistry teachers' perceptions of STS education were following. There were many responses that STS education was necessary for educational efficiency. On the other hand STS education was unnecessary because there were few effective teaching-learning method related with STS education. From these results, middle school science textbooks have to be complemented because 2 essential elements of the STS contents were preponderated in the science textbooks. And the teaching-learning method connected with STS education will have to be developed for the efficiency of STS education.
The aim of this study was to research the characteristics of science teachers' thinking related to dissolution and diffusion. For this study, five science teachers who majored in chemistry or chemistry education were selected and interviewed. These teachers have been teaching on average for 2$\sim$6 years. From the study, it was discovered that the science teachers didn't recognize the necessity of sorting out diffusion from dissolution. The teachers divided in various mixing phenomena with diverse criteria. The science teachers had difficulty in sorting out diffusion from dissolution based on solubility and Gibbs' energy. The teachers didn't see the linkage between the contents that were divided into chapters, and didn't find omitted contents themselves in the chapters that introduced applicable principles. During the interviews, the teachers felt the need to understand the principles for understanding phenomena. But they did not have the ability to teach these principles after learning about the principles themselves. Therefore, it is necessary to develop teacher education programs, as well as a science curriculum, that helps in linking the knowledge between natural phenomena and principles.
This study analyzed activities in chemistry chapters of middle school science textbooks for the 2009 revised curriculum using 8 science practices. All the activities that students could experience inquiry were analyzed in this study. There were the most activities in 'Molecular motion and change of state' and the least activities in 'Heat and our life' of three textbooks. There were the most science practices in 'Features of substance' in two textbooks, but there were the least science practice in 'Heat and our life' of three textbooks. 'Investigation planning and performing', 'data analyzing and interpreting', and 'explanation composition and problem solution designing' were frequently included, but 'asking questions and defining issues' was not included at all. For 'Investigation planning and performing', 'data analyzing and interpreting', and 'explanation composition and problem solution designing', a variety of achievement goals were targeted while a few goals were frequently targeted. Two to four kinds of science practices were frequently included in an inquiry activity. There were few activity that includes over 5 different kinds of science practice.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the inquiry tendency of North Korean chemistry textbook by Romey's method. We analyzed the inquiry tendencies of texts, figures, questions, activities, and summaries by Romey's method. And the following results were compared with those of previous South Korean studies, which method was the same. The 20,017 texts, 541 figures, 140 questions, 243 activities, and 25 summaries in 5 chapters of chemistry textbook of the Higher-level middle school 1 in the Kim Jong-Un Era were analyzed. Results were as follows: texts were authoritarian tendency, figures were authoritarian tendency, questions were excessive inquiry tendency, activities were inquiry tendency, and chapter summaries were drastic authoritarian tendency. The inquiry tendency of North Korean chemistry textbook in higherlevel middle school showed similar tendencies as the textbooks of South Korean chemistry I textbook in the 6th National Science Curriculum. The results of this study are expected to be utilized as basic information and data to understand the inquiry teaching that North Korea science education is aiming at.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the completeness of educational objectives according to grades, objective domains and content areas, and to inquire the completeness of educational objectives by instructional quality profile and to restate educational objectives on the elementary school science curriculum. The taxonomy as a classification tool was developed in order to classify the science educational objectives. Teacher's guide-books of elementary school science were used to analyze the completeness. The educational objectives were checked using the objective classification tool by 11 experienced specialists in science education. The following are the results of this study. 1. Completeness of unit was shown approximately the 62 percentage in chapters, the 72 percentage in sections and the 87 percentage in periods. 2. Only the related chemistry parts showed that each objective domains were stated evenly. 3. On the whole, the number of understanding(38%) of stated educational objectives was much more than the other domains, such as manual skill(7%), attitudes.interests.appreciations(4%). 4. The elementary school science objectives were restated using the instructional quality profile in order to increase the completeness.
In order to promote national competition on knowledge based-society in 21centuries, it is important for us to train talented people who have much creativity. Comparing curriculums and contents studied in SECG (Science Education Center for the Gifted) and other organizations is object of this thesis. Finding implications of proper GATE(gifted and talented education) by understanding the present conditions is also a part of this thesis. We select 5 Science Education Centers for the Gifted and devise framework for analysis in order to analyze chemical textbooks in GATE programs. The framework consists of 6 categories including the contents, the level of activities, the opening extent of experiments, and the ability to think creatively. In our study of textbooks, we have found that the contents of chapters are divided properly but lacked the field of frontier and convergence science. Their activity types will have to develop programs which consist of various activities such as lectures and experiments. Precedent studies and study activities to promote scientific thinking were rated highly in general ratio. The level of studies that we analyzed lacked creative activities very much. In the opening extent of experiments, activities in the level 2 and the level 3 were low-rate. And in our study of thinking creatively, activities of promotion for expanded and related-ability to think seemed to lack. In order to achieve specific education for the gifted children, developments of GATE program is required. In the in-depth analysis from the questionnaires of Likert's method's descriptions, narrations, and interviews, it is divided into two answers in depth: contents of program, management of program. These also divided into two answers by attitude: positive answer or negative answer. According to the responses of the contents of program, the result of analysis shows that most respondents have positive reactions to not only contents and the managing method of SECG programs, but also to individual enhancing-abilities overall.

The purpose of the study was to classify scientific models in the seventh grade science textbooks of the 2007 revised science curriculum. The three chapters of 'three states of material', 'motion of molecule', and 'change of state and energy' were investigated. There were two types of the scientific model as 'mode of representation' and 'attribute of representation'. The mode of representation was composed of 'action model', 'analogical model', 'symbolic model', and 'theoretical model' and the attribute of representation was composed of 'static model' and 'dynamic model'. The results showed that the action model and the analogical model were used primarily in mode of representation. The dynamic model were widely used in attribute of representation. Area of matters dealt with conception of molecules and aimed for students to understand the arrangement and movement of molecule microscopically about macroscopic state in a daily life. Tis study could help to recognize the limitations of scientific models on current textbooks and offer more useful information in planning lessons and organizing textbooks for the future.
