Generally, polyester microfiber has much greater dye uptake than that of regular ones. In spite of high dye up-take visual shade depth of dyed fabric decreases with smaller denier, which results in poor washing fastness of dyed fabric. In this study, in order to investigate the washing fastness, polyester microfiber fabric was dyed by using two type of disperse dyes and treated with 3 different reduction clearing methods. The reduction clearing methods in this study are normal alkaline reduction clearing, $N_2$ gas replacement method, and ultrasonic treatment during reduction clearing. The results were as followings ; The most important factors affecting the washing fastness of polyester artificial suede fabric were found to be the reduction clearing method, the chemical structure of used disperse dyes and the structure and denier of fibers. It was also obtained that the heat treatment of dyed fabric decreased the washing fastness due to the dye migration from inner phase to surface.

Several chemical washing procedures were applied to Parathion and Diazinon contaminated soil. Batch and column tests were performed to determine the insecticides extraction efficiency as a function of pH. Washing efficiency of methanol is more higher than that of water and HCl when washed parathion and diazinon are. Those are completely miscible with most organic solvents. For parathion, release trend is increased as pH is increased because it is hydrolyzed easily at the condition of alkali. But diazinon shows reverse because diazinon is decomposed rapidly at the condition of acidic So, diazinon is more released than parathion is because this experiment is peformed in acidic and weak acidic conditions. Generally, parathion and diazinon are classified as having low mobility, so they can be easily controlled if the proper washing process are applied.

The amount of export of paprika has been increased rapidly in recent years. Therefore, its cultivation area has greatly increased in Korea according to current consumer's attraction. Moreover, it becomes one of the major exporting products while it recorded 53 million dollars, in 2009 resulting in 40% of the total vegetables export. Most of the products are exported to Japan, but it is necessary to prolong the quality preservation periods to export paprika to nations like U.S.A. or EU. However, to encourage an export to many countries, washing and disinfection became more important to deal with longer transportation and medical inspection. The non-chemical use is very important due to stronger regulation of safety to agricultural production. Accordingly, this study was performed to determine the optimum conditions and develop a prototype washing machine, hot water washing of paprika. The results were as follows : The working performance of the prototype was 938 kg/hr, and which was 1.5 times higher than the conventional air gun type washing machine. The operation cost of prototype was 30 won/kg, and 56% of the cost was reduced when compared with air gun type washing machine.
The applicability of soil washing/flushing to treat a contaminated soil with cadmium (Cd) and copper (Cu) using a mixture of organic/inorganic extractant was evaluated in laboratory-scale batch and column tests. Citric acid was the effective extractant to remove Cd and Cu from the soil among various organic acids except EDTA. Carbonic acid was chosen as inorganic extractant which was not only low toxicity to environment, but also increasing soil permeability. Moreover, the optimum ratio of organic and inorganic extractant to remove Cd and Cu was 10 : 1, and this ratio of organic and inorganic extractant achieved removal efficiencies of Cd (46%) and Cu (39%), respectively. The increasing flow rate of extractant could explain the phenomena of soil packing when carbonic acid was used with organic extractant (i.e. EDTA and citric acid). Therefore, a mixture of organic extractant with inorganic extractant, especially carbonic acid, could resolve a problem of soil packing when this extractant was applied to a field application to remove Cd and Cu using in-situ soil flushing process.
Purpose: Hydrofluoric acid(HF) is one of the most dangerous mineral acids with dissociated fluoride ions. As hydrofluoric acid is present in various household products(such as rust removers), a large population of industrials is at the risk of HF exposure. It is a very strong organic acid, used widely in glass etching, metal washing, and in the semiconductor industry. Even when using adequate safety measures, lack of care on the user's part results in chemical burn by HF. Symptoms caused by HF-induced chemical burns shows delayed manifestations resulting in a loss of proper treatment opportunities. We therefore reviewed 20 cases of HF-induced chemical burns and treatment principle. Methods: The objects of this study were 19 male patients and 1 female treated from March 2004 to March 2006. There were 19 cases of injury on digits and 1 on the wrist area. There were 15 cases of immediate treatment after sustaining HF-induced burns, and 5 cases of delayed treatment. As a principle, in the emergency treatment, partial or complete removal of the nail along with copious washing with normal saline was done, depending on the degree of HF invasion of the distal digital extremities. Results: The 15 cases who came to the hospital immediately after the injury were healed completely without sequelae, and those who delayed their treatment needed secondary surgical measures, due to the severity of inflammation and necrosis of the digital tissues. Conclusion: As the industrial sector develops, the use of HF is increasing more and more, leading to increase in incidences of HF-induced chemical burns. When treating chemical burns caused by HF, washing by copious amounts of normal saline, along with early removal of the nails, rather than calcium gluconate, seems to be a available method for preserving the shape and function of the digits and the nail. The education of patients regarding this subject should be empathized accordingly.

In order to remediate soils contaminated with oxyanionic As and cationic Zn and Ni through the pilot-scale acid washing, the effectiveness of acid washing and the properties of contaminated soils, fine soil particle and dissolved contaminants were evaluated. $H_{2}SO_4\;and\;H_{3}PO_4$ washing at pH $2{\sim}3$ enhanced the removal of As by the presence of competitive oxyanions and HCl washing effectively removed simultaneously As, Zn and Ni. The effectiveness of soil washing was little enhanced above the critical reaction time, and the carbonate, Fe/Mn oxide and organic/sulfides associated fraction were dominantly removed. The washing of coarse soil particles was highly efficient, but that of fine soil particles($<74{\mu}m$) was recalcitrant due to the enrichment with contaminants. Moreover, the physical separation of fine particles($<149{\mu}m$) enhanced the overall efficiency of soil washing. Therefore, both chemical extraction and separation of fine soil particles showed the high effectiveness of soil washing in the intersection point to minimize the amount of fine soil particles and to maximize the chemical extraction of contaminants.

Paper materials for long term conservation suffer slowly mechanical and chemical deterioration, the extent of which may depend upon their conservation environment. Those deterioration includes discoloring, low moisture content, acidification, and brittleness. To slow deterioration, washing treatment, deacidification, and polymer reinforcement on paper materials are usually used. One easy and simple method of fixing low moisture content and acidification was an washing method, and we used both distilled and alkali water in washing method in this study. Alkali water is electrolyzed cathode water of high pH, and has no alkali metal ions in it. Experiment showed that washing treatment with both distilled and alkali water gave improvement in raising moisture content, pH, and mechanical strength of paper materials even after severe accelerated aging test. Advantageous effect of alkali water over distilled water on preventing deterioation was also shown clearly.

In this study, the effect of washing, bleaching, and abrasion on tactile and the water absorption properties of the split-type Nylon/Polyester (N/P) microfiber pile-knit was investigated under various enduse conditions. We examined the water absorption and surface properties of PET microfiber which will be very useful in the future. We also studied the variations of their performance during usage caused by friction and repeated washing, regard to all kinds of physical, chemical changes which will appear while using those textiles. Progress in further splitting of PET microfiber fabric is observed with increases in the number of washing and bleaching cycles, and treatment temperature. Initial water absorption (%) was increased with progress in splitting, which provided efficient capillary channel. Surface properties were varied with additional splitting by washing and abrasion. Formation of pilling and splitting by abrasion increase surface roughness, diminishing tactile property, and reduced water absorption property. The current results from this study is expected to provide the appropriate washing management guide to consumers, and to inform end-use performance of product to a producer for improving product quality.
Recently, spherical beads entrapping quorum quenching (QQ) bacteria have been reported as effective moving QQ-media for biofouling control in MBRs for wastewater treatment owing to their combined effects of biological (i.e., quorum quenching) and physical washing. Taking into account both the mass transfer of signal molecules through the QQ-medium and collision efficiencies of the QQ-medium against the filtration membranes in a bioreactor, a cylindrical medium (QQ-cylinder) was developed as a new shape of moving QQ-medium. The QQ-cylinders were compared with previous QQ-beads in terms of the QQ activity and the physical washing effect under identical loading volumes of each medium in batch tests. It was found that the QQ activity of a QQ-medium was highly dependent on its specific surface area, regardless of the shape of the medium. In contrast, the physical washing effect of a QQ-medium was greatly affected by its geometric structure. The enhanced anti-biofouling property of the QQ-cylinders relative to QQ-beads was confirmed in a continuous laboratory-scale MBR with a flat-sheet membrane module.
This study was conducted to reuse the rice straw ash as washing agent for oil contaminated soils. The results are summarized as follows. The physical characteristics of rice straw before and after burning were as follows ; In case of burning rice straw 1g, the rice straw ash was generated 0.14g and pH was changed neutrality into alkali(pH 10.9) and specific surface area was increased to five times and particle distribution was corresponded to fine silt.(under 0.05mm) The physical characteristics of rice straw ash were Carbon 10.9%, Hydrogen 1.5%, Oxygen 23.4%, Nitrogen 5.2%, Sulfate 1.2% and chemical characteristics were Si 189.2ppm, Ca 10.2ppm, Mg 4.7ppm. Oil cleanup ratio by pH variation were about 40∼50% of initial concentration of oil by pH 10∼11. As the result of cleanup comparative experiment, the rice straw ash was about 20∼30%, the tritonX-100 about 40∼50% of washing efficiency, and then in the future it will be possibility of substitute washing agent.
