The application of Carbon and graphite based materials in unprotected environment is limited to a temperature of $450^{\circ}C$ or so because of their susceptibility to oxidation at this temperature and higher. To over come these obstacles a low cost chemical vapour reaction process (CVR) was developed to give crystalline and high purity SiC coating on graphite and isotropic C/C composite. CVR is most effective carbothermal reduction method for conversation of a few micron of carbon layer to SiC. In the CVR method, a sic conversation layer is formed by reaction between carbon and gaseous reagent silicon monoxide at high temperature. Characterization of SiC coating was carried out using SEM. The other properties studied were hardness density and conversion efficiency.
In this work, graphene was prepared by modified Hummers method and prepared graphene was applied to electrode materials for supercapacitor. In addition, to enhance the electrochemical performance of graphene, carbon black was deposited onto graphene via chemical reduction. The effect of the carbon black content incorporated on the electrochemical properties of the graphene-based electrodes was investigated. It was found that nano-scaled carbon black aggregates were deposited and dispersed onto the graphene by the chemical reduction of acid treated carbon black and graphite oxide. From the cyclic voltammograms, carbon black-deposited graphene (CB-GR) showed improved electrochemical performance, i.e., current density, quicker response, and better specific capacitance than that of pristine graphene. This indicates that the carbon black deposited onto graphene served as an conductive materials between graphene layers, leading to reducing the contact resistance of graphene and resulted in the increase of the charge transfer between graphene layers by bridge effect.
For the commercialization of polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cell (PEMFC), some serious problems such as the decrease of platinum use as catalysts and a larger overpotential of oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) at cathode must be solved. In this study, 20%Pt/C and 20%PtCo/C catalysts for the cathode of PEMFC were synthesized from the chemical reduction method and evaluated using an electrochemical measurement. The ORR activity of synthesized 20%Pt/C and 20%PtCo/C had higher than that of the 20%Pt/C on the market. The synthesized 20%PtCo/C with the cobalt concentration (Pt:Co atomic ratio) from 5 to 20% showed the highest ORR activity.

Single and few-layer graphene nanosheets (GNs) have successfully synthesized by a modified Hummer's method followed by chemical reduction of exfoliated graphene oxide (GO) in the presence of hydrazine monohydrate. GO and GNs were characterized by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), X-ray diffractions (XRD), Raman spectroscopy, Transmission electron microscopy (TEM), Atomic force microscopy (AFM), Optical microscopy (OM) and by electrical conductivity measurements. The result showed that electrical conductivity of GNs was significantly improved, from $4.2{\times}10^{-4}$ S/m for GO to 12 S/m for GNs, possibly due to the removal of oxygen-containing functional group during chemical reduction. In addition, the $NO_2$ gas sensing characteristics of GNs are also discussed.

This study identified emission sources and emissions of air pollutants such as volatile organic compounds (VOCs), solvents, and acid gases produced from chemical plants. We collected air samples from various processes, reactors and facilities using VOC detectors and workers' experience. We identified chemical structures and emission concentrations of air pollutants. We analyzed total emissions of air pollutants emitted from the chemical plants. Also, we developed some emission reduction technologies based on chemical types and emission situations of the identified air pollutants. For reduction of air emissions of acid gases, we employed a method improving solubility of pollutants by reducing scrubber operation temperature, increasing surface area for effective contact of gas and liquid, and modifying or changing chemicals used in the acid scrubbers. In order to reduce air emissions of both amines and acid gases, which have had different emission sources each other but treated by one scrubber, we first could separate gas components. And then different control techniques based on components of pollutants were applied to the emission sources. That is, we first applied condensation and then acid scrubbing method using H2SO4 solution for amine treatment. However, we only used an acid scrubbing method using H2O and NaOH solution for acid gas treatment. In order to reduce air emissions of solvents such as dimethylformamide and toluene, we applied condensation and activated carbon adsorption. In order to reduce air emissions of mixture gases containing acid gases and slovents, which could not be separated in the processes, we employed a combination of various air pollution control devices. That is, the mixture gases were passed into the first condenser, the acid scrubber, the second condenser, and the activated carbon adsorption tower in sequence. In addition, for improvement of condensation efficiency of VOCs, we changed the type of the condensers attached in the reactors as a control device modification. Finally, we could successfully reduce air emissions of pollutants produced from various chenmical processes or facilities by use of proper control methods according to the types and specific emission situations of pollutants.
Chemical reduction using catalysts and NaBH4 presents a promising approach for reducing 4-nitrophenol contamination while generating valuable byproducts. Covalent organic frameworks (COFs) emerge as a versatile platform for supporting catalysts due to their unique properties, such as high surface area and tunable pore structures. This study employs design of experiments (DOE) to systematically optimize the synthesis of Cu embedded COF (Cu/COF) catalysts for the reduction of 4-nitrophenol. Through a series of experimental designs, including definitive screening, mixture method, and central composition design, the main synthesis parameters influencing Cu/COF formation are identified and optimized: MEL:TPA:DMSO = 0.31:0.36:0.33. Furthermore, the optimal synthesis temperature and time were predicted to be 195 ℃ and 14.7 h. Statistical analyses reveal significant factors affecting Cu/COF synthesis, facilitating the development of tailored nanostructures with enhanced catalytic performance. The catalytic efficacy of the optimized Cu/COF materials is evaluated in the reduction of 4-nitrophenol, demonstrating promising results in line with the predictions from DOE.
Silver nano-particles have been synthesized by liquid phase reduction method and alcohol reduction process. Silver nano-particles of the size 30 ~ 40 nm were formed successfully by alcohol reduction process. The formation, structure, morphology and size of silver nano-particles have been studied using FE-SEM, TEM, XRD, UV-visible spectroscopy. In particular high dispersion stability of the synthesized silver nano-particles could be obtained by PVP binding. Antibacterial activity of Ag/PET master batch sample made from its nano-silver particles showed excellent antibacterial activity against S. aureus and E. coli.
The Cu-Ag nanoparticles have been synthesized in aqueous medium using a hydrazine reduction method. The assisted role of polymeric dispersant on synthesis of highly concentrated Cu-Ag nanoparticles was studied. The 30wt% of Cu-Ag nanoparticles with the range of 10 nm in diameter was prepared.
In this study, chemical solution mixing and hydrogen reduction method was used to fabricate nanostructured $Fe_xCo_{1-x}$ alloy powders. Fe-Co chloride mixture, FeCl$_2$ and COCI$_2$ with 99.9% purity, were reduced in hydrogen atmosphere. Nanostructured Fe-Co alloy powders with a grain size of 50 nm were successfully fabricated. Magnetic properties of fabricated $Fe_xCo_{1-x}$(x=0, 10, 30, 50, 70, 100) alloy powders with the same grain size were measured because size factor can affect magnetic properties. Coercivity of Fe-Co alloy powders were increased with increasing Co contents. Maximum value of coercivity in various Co contented Fe-Co alloy powders with similar grain size was 125 Oe at Fe$_{100}$. Saturation magnetization value at Fe$_{70}$Co$_{30}$ composition showed maximum value of 219 emu/g and saturation magnetization value decreased with increasing Co contents and minimum value of 155 emu/g was observed at Co$_{100}$.
This numerical study was to investigate the effect of $CO_2$ addition on the structures and NOx formation characteristics in $CH_4$ counterflow diffusion flame. The importance of radiation effect was identified and $CO_2$ addition effect was investigated in terms of thermal and chemical reaction effect. Also the causes of NOx reduction were clarified by separation method of each formation mechanisms. The results were as follows : The radiation effect was intensified by $CO_2$ addition. Thermal effect mainly contributed to the changes in flame structure and the amount of NO formation but the chemical reaction effect also cannot be neglected. The reduction of thermal NO was dominant with respect to reduction rate, but that of prompt NO was dominant with respect to total amount.
