Multi-walled carbon nanotubes (CNTs) were prepared by thermal chemical vapor deposition (CVD) and microwave plasma chemical vapor deposition (MPCVD) using various combination of binary catalysts with four transition metals such as Fe, Co, Cu, and Ni. In the preparation of CNTs from acetylene precursor by thermal CVD, the CNTs with very high yield of 43.6 % was produced over $Fe-Co/Al_2O_3$. The highest yield of CNTs was obtained with the catalyst reduced for 3 hr and the yield was decreased with increasing reduction time to 5 hr, due to the formation of $FeAl_2O_4$ metal-aluminate. On the other hand, the CNTs prepared by acethylene plasma CVD had more straight, smaller diameter, and larger aspect ratio(L/D) than those prepared by thermal CVD, although their yield had lower value of 27.7%. The degree of graphitization of CNTs measured by $I_d/I_g$ value and thermal degradation temperature were 1.04 and $602^{\circ}C$, respectively.
In the present study, mixed carbon-supported platinum(Pt) nanoparticles were prepared by a chemical reduction method of Pt precursor solution on two types of carbon materials such as activated carbons(ACs) and graphite nanofibers(GNFs). Average crystalline sizes and loading levels of Pt metal particles could be controlled by changing a content of GNFs. The highest electroactivity for methanol oxidation was obtained by preparing the carbon supports having 15 wt% GNFs. Furthermore, with an increase of GNFs content from 0% to 15%, an electrical conductivity was changed from $10^{-4}S/cm$ to $10^{-1}S/cm$. By an introduction of 10 wt% GNFs additive, the electroactivity of platinum particles was enhanced, but was saturated in the case of 15 wt% GNFs contents. This was related with the fact that the electroactivity change was dependent on the electrical conductivity of mixed carbon supports and Pt particle deposition content or deposition morphology.

In this study, a novel deposition method of Pt catalysts onto Nafion membranes modified with polypyrrole (PPy) has been proposed for PEMFC application. The PPy/Nafion composite membranes were fabricated by chemical polymerization of pyrrole using $FeCl_3$ and $Na_2S_2O_8$ as initiator. The proton conductivity and water uptake of the chemically prepared PPy/Nafion composites were investigated. The ionic conductivity and water uptake of PPy/Nafion composite membrane prepared with $Na_2S_2O_8$ were decreased with polymerization time of pyrrole. In the case of $FeCl_3$, the ionic conductivity was almost retained and the water uptake was decreased with polymerization time of pyrrole. When the Pt particle was deposited on PPy/Nafion composites membrane by chemical reduction of $H_2PtCl_6$, the Pt loading on Nafion membrane was enhanced by polypyrrole due to electronic conduction property. The performance evaluation with membrane electrode assembly composed of Pt/PPy/Nafion composite and diffusion electrode was carried out using a single cell. As a result of fuel cell test, current density of $569mA/cm^2$ at 0.3 V has been obtained for MEA contained with Pt/PPy/Nafion composite. This study shows that direct deposition of Pt catalysts on Nafion impregnated polypyrrole is a promising method to prepare thin catalyst layer for the PEMFC.
In this work, nitrogen and oxygen functionalities was introduced to the graphite nanofibers (GNFs) and their effect on electrocatalytic performance of the GNF supports for direct methanol fuel cells (DMFCs) was invesigated. The nitrogen and oxygen groups were introduced through the urea treatments and acid treatment, respectively. And, PtRu catalysts deposited on modified GNFs were prepared by a chemical reduction method. The catalysts were characterized by means of elemental analysis, nitrogen adsorption, and X-ray photoelectron spetroscopy (XPS). The structure and morphological characteristics of the catalysts were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). As a result, the Pt-Ru nanoparticles were impregnated on GNFs with good formation in 3-5 nm. And, the cyclic voltammograms for methanol oxidation revealed that the methanol oxidation peak varied depending on changes of surface functional groups. It was thus considered that the PtRu deposition was related to the reduction of PtRu and surface characteristics of the carbon supports. The changes of surface functional groups were related to PtRu reduction, significantly affect the methanol oxidation activity of anode electrocatalysts in DMFCs.
ITO thin film is generally fabricated by various methods such as spray, CVD, evaporation, electron gun deposition, direct current electroplating, high frequency sputtering, and reactive DC sputtering. However, some problems such as peaks, bumps, large particles, and pin-holes on the surface of ITO thin film were reported, which caused the destruction of color quality, the reduction of device life time, and short-circuit. Chemical mechanical polishing (CMP) process is one of the suitable solutions which could solve the problems.

The immobilization of proteins on silicon surfaces using electrochemical reaction has been studied. Chemical deposition of nitrobenzendiazonium (NiBD) cations is employed to modify silicon surfaces. Electrochemical reduction of nitro-group to primary amine-group have been conducted on the modified surfaces to activate silicon surfaces for the protein immobilization. Attachment of gold nanoparticles was used to prove the reduction. The current method was applied to selective activation of a silicon nanowire and immobilize proteins on the selected nanowire. It has been demonstrated that the use of chemical and electrochemical reaction NiBD is efficient for the selective immobilization of proteins on silicon nanowire surfaces.
With the expansion of the automobile market, the demand for Nd as an essential rare earth material for automobile motors is rapidly increasing. Research on the calcio-thermic reduction process between Nd2O3 and calcium-based alloys has been extensively studied in order to manufacture Nd. In this study, Ca-Cu, as a reducing for Nd2O3, was prepared by electrolysis in CaCl2 molten salt. Cu wire and graphite were employed as a working electrode and a counter electrode for electrolysis reaction, respectively. The reference electrode was manufactured by putting Ag wire in a mixture of AgCl and CaCl2 at a ratio of 1:99 mol%. The cyclic voltammetry results showed that the deposition of Ca2+ on the surface of working electrode was observed from a potential of -1.8 V, and the reduction potential of Ca2+ decreased as the reaction temperature increased. The diffusion coefficient of Ca2+ calculated by the chronoamperometry experiment was found to be 5.4(±6.8)×10-6 cm2/s. In addition, Ca-Cu liquid alloy was prepared by applying a constant potential to Cu electrodes. The element ratio of Ca-Cu alloy formed by applying a potential of -2.0 V was found to Ca:Cu=1:4.
In this study, an electro-catalyst of Pt nanoparticles supported by polypyrrole-functionalized graphene (Pt/PPy-reduced graphene oxide [RGO]) is reported. The Pt nanoparticles are deposited on the PPy-RGO composite by chemical reduction of H2PtCl6 using NaBH4. The presence of graphene (RGO) caused higher activity. This might have been due to increased electro-chemically accessible surface areas, increased electronic conductivity, and easier charge-transfer at polymer-electrolyte interfaces, allowing higher dispersion and utilization of the deposited Pt nano-particles. Microstructure, morphology and crystallinity of the synthesized materials were investigated using X-ray diffraction and transmission electron microscopy. The results showed successful deposition of Pt nano-particles, with crystallite size of about 2.7 nm, on the PPy-RGO support film. Catalytic activity for methanol electro-oxidation in fuel cells was investigated using cyclic voltammetry. The fundamental electrochemical test results indicated that the electro-catalytic activity, for methanol oxidation, of the Pt/PPy-RGO combination was much better than for commercial catalyst.

Square-wave voltammetric behavior for uranium(VI)-cupferron complex was studied in 0.1 M acetate buffer solution(pH5.0). The optimum condition for square-wave voltammetric analysis of uranium was also investigated. The reduction of uranium(VI)-cupferron complex was found to be irreversible and only uranium(VI)-cupferron complex was adsorbed on the electrode surface during the deposition time. Detection limit of uranium(VI) was 7.9nM(2 ppb) where the deposition time was 30sec at -0.1 V vs. Ag/AgCl. The amount of uranium(VI)-cupferron complex adsorbed on the electrode surface was ${\Gamma}_{max} = (4.9{\pm}0.3){\times}10^{-10} mol{\cdot}cm^{-2}$.

Solution-based deposition of $CuIn_xGa_{1-x}Se_2$ (CIGSe) thin films is well known non-vacuum process for the fabrication of CIGSe solar cells. However, due to the usage of organic chemicals in the preparation of CIG precursor solutions, the crystallization of the polycrystalline CIGSe and the performance of CIGSe thin film solar cells were significantly affected by the carbon residues from the organic chemicals. In this work, we have tried to eliminate the carbon residues in the CIG precursor thin films efficiently by using soft-annealing process. By adjusting soft-annealing temperature, it is possible to control the amount of carbon residues in CIG precursor thin films. The reduction of the carbon residues in CIG precursors by high temperature soft-annealing improves the grain size and morphology of polycrystalline CIGSe thin films, which are also closely related with the electrical properties of CIGSe thin film solar cells.
