ZnO thin films have wide application areas due to its versatile properties as transparent conductors, wide-bandgap n-type semiconductors, gas sensor materials, and etc. We have performed a systematic investigation on ultraviolet-assisted CVD (chemical vapor deposition) method. Ultraviolet irradiation during the deposition of ZnO causes chemical reduction on the growing surface; which results in the reduction of the deposition rate, increase in the surface roughness, and decrease of the electrical resistivity. These effects produce larger characteristic variation with various deposition conditions in terms of surface morphology and optical/electrical properties compared to normal CVD deposited ZnO thin films. This versatile controllability of ultraviolet-assisted CVD can provide a larger processing options in the fabrication of nano-structured materials and flexible device applications.
A low temperature ($65^{\circ}C$) thermal deposition process was developed for depositing a silver coating on thermally sensitive polymeric substrates. This low temperature deposition was achieved by chemical reduction of a silver alkylcarbamate complex with latent reducing agent. The effects of acetol as a latent reducing agent for the silver 2-ethylhexylcarbamate (Ag-EHCB) complex and their blend solutions were investigated in terms of reducing mechanism, and the size and shape of silver nanoparticles (Ag-NPs) as a function of reduced temperature and time, and PVP stabilizer concentration were determined. Low temperature deposition was achieved by combining chemical reduction with thermal heating at $65^{\circ}C$. A range of polymer film, sheet and molding product was coated with silver at thicknesses of 100 nm. The effect of process parameters and heat treatment on the properties of silver coatings was investigated.
Well aligned $SnO_2$-doped ZnO nanorods were prepared by single step or 2-step electrochemical depositions in a mixture solution of zinc nitrate hexahydrate, ammonium hydroxide solution and 0.1 M tin chloride pentahydrate. The morphologies of electrochemically deposited $SnO_2$-doped ZnO were transformed from plain (or network) structures at low reduction potential to needles on hills at high reduction potential. Well aligned ZnO was prepared at intermediate potential ranges. Reduction reagent and a high concentration of Zn precursor were required to fabricate $SnO_2$ doped ZnO nanorods. When compared to results obtained by single step electrochemical deposition, 2-step electrochemical deposition produced a much higher density of nanorods, which was ascribed to less potential being required for nucleation of nanorods by the second-step electrochemical deposition because the surface was activated in the first-step. Mechanisms of $SnO_2$ doped ZnO nanorods prepared at single step or 2-step was described in terms of applied potential ranges and mass-/charge- limited transfer.
Reduction reactivity and carbon deposition characteristics of three oxygen carrier particles(OCN01, OCN02, OCN03) have been investigated by using hydrogen, methane, syngas, and natural gas as fuels. For all particles, the maximum conversion, the oxygen transfer capacity, and the degree of carbon deposition increased as the reactive carbon contents increased. The reduction rate and the oxygen transfer rate increased as the moles of required oxygen per input gas increased. The change of maximum conversion, reduction rate, oxygen transfer capacity, oxygen transfer rate and degree of carbon deposition for different fuels can be explained consistently by using parameters such as the reactive carbon contents and the moles of require oxygen per input gas.
The Pt/C and Pd/C catalysts were prepared from conventional chloride precursors by adsorption or precipitation-deposition methods. Their activities for hydrogenation reactions of cyclohexene and acetophenone were compared with those of commercial catalysts. The Pt/C and Pd/C catalysts obtained from the adsorption procedure reveal higher hydrogenation activity than commercial catalysts and the catalysts prepared by the precipitation-deposition method. Their improved performances are attributed to the decreased metal crystallite sizes of Pt or Pd formed on the active carbon support upon the adsorption of the precursors probably due to the same negative charges of the chloride precursor and the carbon support. Under the preparation conditions studied, the reduction of the supported catalysts using borohydrides in liquid phase is superior to a gas phase reduction by using hydrogen in the viewpoint of particle size, hydrogenation activity and convenience.
We have examined minimization of the number of impurity particles by replacing the load-lock chamber materials of the chemical vapor deposition equipment through optimization of the pumping method in the deposition chamber. In order to reduce the number of impurity particles in the chamber, the load-lock spacer material was changed from monomer casting nylon to Torlon. Furthermore, we controlled the pumping speed and number of pumping ports, which resulted in a reduction in the impurity particle generation from 2.67% to 0.52%. This study revealed that the selection of the material for the parts of a chemical vapor deposition chamber can minimize particle generation, thereby presenting a method of optimization method of the chemical vapor deposition chamber.
Reduction reactivity and carbon deposition characteristics of mass produced oxygen carrier particle(OCN-650) have been investigated by using hydrogen, methane, syngas, and natural gas as fuels. For all fuels, the maximum conversion and oxygen transfer capacity increased as the temperature increase. The reduction rate and the oxygen transfer rate increased as the temperature increase for methane. However, those values showed maximum at 900$^{\circ}C$ for hydrogen, syngas, and natural gas. To explain consistently the change of maximum conversion, reduction rate, oxygen transfer capacity, oxygen transfer rate and degree of carbon deposition for different fuels, new parameters such as reactive carbon contents and require oxygen per input gas were adopted.

Highly ordered silver nanowire with a diameter of 10 nm was arrayed by electroless deposition in a porous anodic aluminum oxide(AAO) membrane. The AAO membrane was fabricated electrochemically in an oxalic acid solution via a two-step anodization process, while growth of the silver nanowire was initiated by using electroless deposition at the long-range-ordered nanochannels of the AAO membrane followed by thermal reduction of a silver nitrate aqueous solution by increasing the temperature up to $350^{\circ}C$ for an hour. An additional electro-chemical procedure was applied after the two-step anodization to control the pore size and channel density of AAO, which enabled us to fabricate highly-ordered silver nanowire on a large scale. Electroless deposition of silver nitrate aqueous solution into the AAO membrane and thermal reduction of silver nanowires was performed by increasing the temperature up to $350^{\circ}C$ for 1 h. The morphologies of silver nanowires arrayed in the AAO membrane were investigated using SEM. The chemical composition and crystalline structure were confirmed by XRD and EDX. The electroless-deposited silver nanowires in AAO revealed a well-crystallized self-ordered array with a width of 10 nm.
Grapehen, a single atomic layer of graphite, has been in the spotlight and researched in vaious fields, because its fine mechanical, electrical properties, flexibility and transparence. Synthesis methods for large-area graphene such as chemical vaper deposition (CVD) and mechanical, chemical exfoliation have been reported. In particular, chemical exfoliation method receive attention due to low cost process. Chemical exfoliation method require reduction of graphene oxide in the process of exfoliation such as chemical reduction by strong reductant, thermal reduction on high temperature, and optical reduction via ultraviolet light exposure. Among these reduction methods, optical reduction is free from damage by strong reductant and high temperature. However, optical reduction is economically infeasible because the high cost of short-wavelength ultraviolet light sorce. In this paper, we make graphene-oxide and lanthanoid ion mixture aqueous solution which has highly optical absorbency in selective wevelength region. Sequentially, we synthesize reduced graphene oxide (RGO) using the solution and visible laser beam. Concretely, graphene oxide is made by modified hummer's method and mix with 1 ml each ultraviolet ray absorbent Gd3+ ion, Green laser absorbent Tb3+ ion, Red laser absorbent Eu3+ ion. After that, we revivify graphene oxide by laser exposure of 300 ~ 800 nm layser 1mW/cm2 +. We demonstrate reproducibility and repeatability of RGO through FT-IR, UV-VIS, Low temperature PL, SEM, XPS and electrical measurement.
