  • In this paper, we propose a method to improve the accuracy of positioning by adding angle and distance validation to the existing Bluetooth-based positioning method using the angle of arrival. In the existing positioning method, an error occurs in the positioning value due to a multipath phenomenon induced in a non-visible distance environment. The proposed method derives the maximum and minimum angles of arrival that can be measured in consideration of the moving speed of the positioned device, and then examines whether the measured angle of arrival exceeds the range of the maximum and minimum angles of arrival. The accuracy of positioning is improved by conducting a distance validation check to see if the location of the device to be positioned and the distance to the positioning device exceed the effective distance. A simulation was conducted to analyze the positioning performance between the proposed method and the existing method, and it was confirmed that the positioning performance was improved through angle and distance validation compared to the existing method in a situation where the positioning error increased through the simulation results.

  • The purpose of this paper is to develop the new deep mixing method installed automatic control equipments for the better construction in deep mixing and grouting. Civil, geotechnical, electronic, and communication experts have worked together for a long time for the development of automatic measuring devices using wire and wireless transmitting-receiving set. A series of laboratory and field experiments were carried out to check the reliability and field applicability of this system. New total automatic control system including automatic devices for checking angle, depth and quantity of injected grout was invented from the result of this research.

  • Hydrodynamic characteristics of a stratified flow at a Y-junction were examined analytically. Gas is supplied through the main horizontal channel and liquid is introduced into the gas stream from the Y-shaped bottom branch. Analysis was performed with irrational flow and inviscid fluid assumptions. The Stokes' inverse transformation technique was adopted to convert the real x-y plane into the x-.psi. plane. The potential flow equation was solved numerically in the transformed (x-.psi.) plane and the interface profile, pressure distribution and the streamlines were obtained. The effects of the inlet conditions, injection angle and the gravity on the flow characteristics were also examined. To check the validity of the present method, the previous resultant the two-dimensional obtuse wedge flow was compared. The inverse transformation technique turned out to be also very useful to predict the hydrodynamic characteristics of a stratified flow with the pressure variation at a Y-shaped mixing junction.

  • In this work, we proposed a reflective antiferroelectric liquid crystal display (AFLCD) using a half-wave cell whose inplane tilt angle is $22.5^{\circ}$. To check the validity of our design, we fabricated a reflective half-wave AFLC cell of which inplane tilt angle is $24.9^{\circ}$, and measured VIS reflection spectra, contrast ratio and response time. In the results, the half-wave AFLC cell in the reflective configuration exhibits high brightness, high contrast ratio of 20:1, and fast response time of $700{\mu}s$.

  • Generally, The position of mobile robot moving on the plane is measured by the method of dead reckoning, using the encoder system coupled on a wheel axis. But it is noted that the encoder system cannot check the slip of a wheel, often occurring in tracking of the mobile robot. In this study, using velocity angular velocity sensor with a tuning fork vibration system, the system is developed which can measure the directional angle of positional variables on the mobile robot. By measuring the variations of tracking direction mobile robot equipped with this system, following result is found; In spite of the slip at a wheel when measuring the tracking directional angle, the error occurs in the range of .+-. 1 (degree).

  • A general purpose program for the analysis of flows in a gas turbine combustor is developed. The program uses non-staggered grids based on finite volume method and the cartesian velocities as primitive variables. A flow inside the C-type diffuser is simulated to check the boundary fitted coordinate. The velocity profiles at cross section agree well with experimental results. A turbulent diffusion flame behind a bluff body is simulated for the combustion simulation. Simulated results show good agreement with experimental data. Finally, a turbulent flow with swirl in a gas turbine combustor was simulated. The results show two recirculating region and simulated velocity fields agree well with experimental data. The distance between two recirculating regions becomes shorter as swirl angle increases. Swirl angle changes angular momentum and streamlines in flow fields.

  • Even though official G/T for KOMPSAT-2 X-Band downlink acquisition was 32dB/K, KARI performed the data acquisition experiment using 2Am X-Band antenna to check if popular 2Am MODIS receiving antenna can receive KOMPSAT-2 MSC data within acceptable quality level. Through several acquisition tests, it was shown that G/T value of 24dB/K can provide the reliable data BER quality, 10-6 for the above the elevation angle of 10 degree. Some plots for Eb/No versus elevation angle are provided.

  • This study investigated the structural performance of the precast prestressed cylinder pipe having cracked under construction. The finite element formulation of PPC pipe incorporates Asoild elements using SAP90 program and the radial prestress force was transformed into the eqivalent external pressure. The analytical results were compared with the experimental results of full scale tests on PPC pipes subjected to static load. It is shown that the proposed modelling gives a realistic represention of the actual behavior. The analytical procedure is used to calculate the stresses in the PPC pipes and to check the crack opening under various situations such as bedding angle, earth pressure, and earth cover. Finally, the proposed modelling and analytical procedure should be especially usefull for the safety assessment of the PPC pipes under general loading conditions.

  • A numerical investigation was performed to determine the effect of a Gurney flap on a NACA 23012 airfoil. A Navier-Stokes code, RAMPANT, was used to calculate the flow field about airfoil. The fully turbulent results were obtained using the standard $k-{\varepsilon}$ two-equation turbulence model. To provide a check case for our computational method, computations were performed for NACA 4412 airfoil which compared with Wedcock's experimental data. Gurney flap sizes of 0.5, 1.0, 1.5, and 2% of the airfoil chord were studied. The numerical solutions showed the Gurney flap increased both lift and drag. These results suggested that the Gurney flap served to increased the effective camber of the airfoil. But Gurney flap provided a significant increase in lift-to-drag ratio relatively at low angle of attack and for high lift coefficient. Also, it turned out that 0.5% chord size of flap was best one among them.

  • In the present, various methods have been employed to obtain the lesser thrust loss. Numerical simulations have been carried out for optimizing the thrust vector control system. Thrust vector control based on coflowing shear layer is an effective method to control the primary jet direction in the absence of moving parts. Thrust vector in symmetric nozzles is acquired by secondary flow injections that result to boundary layer separation. The pressure in secondary flow inlet was varied to check the deflection angle of jet flow.
