Background: The clinical characteristics of pediatric nasal fractures can vary depending on the child's age, social activities, and environment. Therefore, this study aimed to analyze these characteristics in different age groups. Methods: We retrospectively reviewed of a series of patients aged under 12 years who received treatment between 2013 and 2021. The initial study design involved dividing the patients into four age groups, corresponding to different developmental ages, but there were no cases in infants aged 0 to 1 year. Therefore, the patients were divided into three groups: group I, between 2 and 5; group II, between 6 and 9; and group III, between 10 and 12 years of age. The following parameters were evaluated: sex, age, etiology, fracture type and severity, and the incidence of septal injuries. Results: In total, 98 patients were included in this study. In group III, the ratio of boys to girls was 3.88:1, exceeding the overall ratio of 1.97:1. The most common cause varied with age: slipping down in group I, bumping accidents in group II, and sports accidents in group III. Concomitant septal injuries were present in 4.17% of patients in group I, 5.71% of patients in group II, and 28.21% of patients in group III. Conclusion: Increasing age was accompanied by a greater tendency for male predominance and a higher prevalence of sports-related causes and septal injuries. Violence was infrequent but started to become a contributing factor during school age. These varying environmental factors across age groups can offer valuable insights into the epidemiology and clinical characteristics of pediatric nasal bone fractures.

Objectives The objective of this study is to investigate differences in clinical characteristics between female panic disorder (PD) patients with abortion history (PD+A) and without abortion history (PD-A). Methods We examined data from 341 female patients diagnosed with PD. We divided the patients with PD into PD+A (82 patients) and PD-A (259 patients) to compare demographic and clinical characteristics. The following instruments were applied : stress coping strategies, NEO-neuroticism, the Anxiety Sensitivity Index-Revised (ASI-R), the Albany Panic and Phobia Questionnaire (APPQ), the Beck Depression Inventory, the Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI) and the Sheehan Disability Scale. Results Compared to the PD-A, the PD+A group showed no significant difference in coping strategies. However, significantly higher scores in neuroticism, the ASI-R, the APPQ and the BAI were observed. In terms of health-related disability, the PD+A group did not show significant difference. Conclusions Our results suggest that the PD+A group may differ from the PD-A group in trait markers such as neuroticism and anxiety sensitivity, and abortion history may be associated with panic-related symptom severity. Our study suggests that further consideration is needed on such clinical characteristics in PD patients with abortion history.
The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic (severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2) is a global infectious disease with rapid spread. Some patients have severe symptoms and clinical signs caused by an excessive inflammatory response, which increases the risk of mortality. In this study, we reanalyzed scRNA-seq data of cells from bronchoalveolar lavage fluids of patients with COVID-19 with mild and severe symptoms, focusing on Ab-producing cells. In patients with severe disease, B cells seemed to be more activated and expressed more immunoglobulin genes compared with cells from patients with mild disease, and macrophages expressed higher levels of the TNF superfamily member B-cell activating factor but not of APRIL (a proliferation-inducing ligand). In addition, macrophages from patients with severe disease had increased pro-inflammatory features and pathways associated with Fc receptor-mediated signaling, compared with patients with mild disease. CCR2-positive plasma cells accumulated in patients with severe disease, probably because of increased CCL2 expression on macrophages from patients with severe disease. Together, these results support the hypothesis that different characteristics of B cells might be associated with the severity of COVID-19 infection.
The number of patients is increasing and their mean age is also increasing. Proper dietary adjustments are necessary to prevent protein-calorie malnutrition or complications but it is difficult for dialysis patients to adapt to diet therapy due to stress or anorexia. Education does not consider the individual characteristics, knowledge, dietary inhabit education demands, and initial education. The purpose of this study was to identify dialysis patient's nutrition knowledge and, dietary practice and compare those with nutrition education or counseling demands for providing basic data of desirable nutrition management. The data were collected by a survey consisting of the general characteristics, disease related characteristics, nutrition education and counsel characteristics, level of nutrition knowledge, diet therapy, and nutrition education and counsel demands from the 28th March to 22th July 2017. The total number of subjects were 33 patients among dialysis patients at two tertiary medical institutions and an artificial kidney room at a private hospital in Incheon Gyeonggi. The data collected were analyzed statistically using the SPSS program 23.0, followed by further analyses using frequency analysis, one-way ANOVA, cross analysis, and correlation analysis. The results of the dialysis patients showed that younger (P<0.05), female (P<0.05), abnormal high school diploma (P<0.001) groups had high nutrition scores. In addition, dietary practice and nutrition education and counsel demands showed a positive correlation (P<0.05, P<0.01). In particular, females were higher than males in nutrition knowledge, dietary practice, nutrition education, and counseling demand scores.
It is reported that the orthognathic patients suffer from not only aesthetic problems but also resonance disorder and articulation disorder because of the abnormality of the oral cavity. This study was designed to investigate the resonance of nasality and the intelligibility of speech for acoustic characteristics of patients' speech before and after orthognatic surgery. 8 orthognathic patients participated in the study. The nasality of words containing Korean consonants, Korean consonants and frequency and intensity of the fricative /s/ were measured using Nasometer and CSL (Computerized Speech Lab). Results were as follows: First, the nasality of post orthognathic surgery patients decreased in spontaneous speech. There was a significant difference in the nasality for all words between pre and post orthognatic surgery patients. Second, the nasality of each Korean consonant phoneme of post orthognathic surgery patients decreased. There was also a significant difference of the nasality for each Korean consonant phoneme between pre and post orthognatic surgery patients. Third, the decreased nasality for Korean consonant phonemes showed in plosives, affricates, fricatives, liquids, and nasals after surgery. But the significant difference showed only in plosives and fricatives. Finally, frequency and intensity for the fricative /s/ of post orthognathic patients increased.
In this study, we investigated the virological characteristics, HBV DNA levels and presence of mutations of "a" determinant in the HBsAg S gene in chronic hepatitis B patients with coexisting HBsAg and anti-HBs. The 18 patients who were diagnosed with chronic hepatitis B were both positive for HBsAg and anti-HBs. HBV Among them, 15 patients were DNA positive. The median of HBV DNA levels in serum was $2.18{\times}10^7$ copies/mL with the HBsAg+/anti-HBsAb+ patients. Also, 4 of 8 HBeAg negative patients had HBV DNA levels higher than $10^4$ copies/mL and the median of HBV DNA levels was $2.03{\times}10^6$ copies/mL, which were significantly high. These results showed that viral replication still existed in most of the patients of the concomitant HBsAg and anti-HBs, and even in the some HBeAg negative patients. Furthermore, mutation within the "a" determinant of HBV were found in 7 of 15 patients. The most frequent changes were located at positions aa126. In addition, one mutation observed for HBsAg only positive.
The purposes of this study were to find out the effects of hospice care for the quality of life of the terminally - ill patients and to analyze the relationship between the effect of hospice care and the general characteristics of subjects. The subjects of the study were 32 terminally - ill patients hospitalized in the two general hospitals in Seoul, which have the hospice care unit. The data were collected using the questionnaire with interviews. They were done from Sept.28, 1989 to March 20, 1991. The tools used for the research were 17-item questionnaire regarding general characteristics, 42-item questionnaire about the quality of life (11- item for physical, 16 for psychosocial, and 15 for spiritual). The questionnaires were to measure the duality of life by means of the measure instruments of Betty R. Farewell(1989), Stein Kaasa(1988), Palm Pamela(1987), and Hwa-sook Choi(1987). 42 items were used after pre-test. In accordance with each purpose in this study, frequency and percentage were used on the general characteristics of subjects. ANOVA, t-test, and Pearson correlation were employed to evaluate the general characteristics of subjects and different level of quality of life before-and-after hospice care. The results of the study may be summarized as follws : 1. The effects of hospice care. Main Hypothesis : “The quality of life of the terminally - ill patients will be different from before-and-after hospice care” was supported(t=6.82, df=31, p= .000). Sub Hypothesis 1 : “The quality of life of the terminally - ill patients in the physical aspects will be different from before - and -after hospice care” was not supported(t=0.07, df=31, p= .946). Sub Hypothesis 2 : “The quality of life of the terminally - ill patients in the psychosocial aspects will be different from before-and-after hospice care” was supported (t=4.69, df=31, p= .000). Sub Hypothesis 3 : “The quality of life of the terminally - ill patients in the spiritual aspects will be different from before-and-after hospice care” was supported(t=6.64, df=31, p= .000). 2. Relationship between the general characteristics of subjects and the effects of hospice care. (1) The more the number of family, the higher the quality of life in the psychosocial aspects. (2) The higher the age of the patient, the lower the quality of life in the psychosocial aspects. (3) The high educational level of patients enjoy the high quality of life in general. (4) The high religious level of petients enjoy the higy Quality of life in the spiritual aspects. As a results of analysis above : 1. The most effective aspects of the hospice care to the terminally- ill patients was spiritual aspects. The next effective aspects was psychosocial area. 2. The least effective aspcets of the hospice care to the terminally- ill patients was physical aspects. Further study is needed to improve the quality of life in the physical aspects.

Purpose: Extracorporeal elimination of drugs is a critical part of managing poisonings, although the indications and optimal method remain a matter of debate. The aim of this study is to report our clinical experiences with continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT), as performed by emergency room physicians, as method of extracorporeal drug elimination in patients with poisoning. Methods: This study was a retrospective study of the consecutive patients who underwent CRRT, as performed by an emergency room physician, for acute poisoning. The patient characteristics, the kinds of drugs and the method of extracorporeal elimination were analyzed by reviewing the patients' charts. Results: During eleven months, 26 patients with acute poisoning underwent extracorporeal elimination (2 patients; intermittent hemodialysis, 24 patients; CRRT). The mean time from the decision to performing extracorporeal elimination was $206.0{\pm}36.8$ minutes for intermittent hemodialysis, $62.9{\pm}8.5$ minutes for continuous venoveno-hemodiafiltration (CVVHDF) and $56.6{\pm}6.8$ minutes for charcoal hemoperfusion. For the patients with CRRT, CVVHDF was conducted in 10 patients (3 patients; valproic acid, 2 patients; Lithium, 1 patient; salicylates, 1 patient; methanol) and charcoal hemoperfusion by using CRRT was done in 14 patients (13 patients; paraquat, 1 patient; dapsone). For the 12 patients who required hemodialysis due to severe poisoning, 7 patients underwent CRRT because of their unstable vital signs. Conclusion: CRRT was an effective method of extracorporeal drug elimination in patients with acute poisoning, and especially for the cases with unstable vital sign and for those patients who required an early start of extracorporeal elimination according to the characteristics of the drug. Objectives: This study was aimed to analyze the correlation of clinical characteristics of cancer patients treated with Korean Medicine and their natural killer cell activity (NKA). Methods: The medical records of 52 cancer patients who conducted NKA test at Cheonan Korean Medicine Hospital of Daejeon University from March 2016 to May 2018 were reviewed. NKA was determined at Seegene Medical institute using NK Vue Gold(R) kit, evaluating activated $IFN-{\gamma}$ by enzyme immunoassay after incubation of whole blood. Careful investigations were conducted by categorizing the patients by their sex, origin, stage, ECOG scale, and conventional treatment type. We used data from the medical records and statistical analysis using SPSS 25.0 V. Results: The average NKA of all patients was $623.1{\pm}722.0pg/mL$. The NKA value was higher for females than for males. No correlation was evident between age and NKA, but patients aged over 70 years had the lowest NKA average result. Stage III and IV patients showed clearly lower NKA values when compared to stage I and II patients. NKA and ECOG scale values showed no evident relationship. Conclusions: This study presented the characteristics of NKA in cancer patients treated with Korean medicine. The NKA result differed by gender and stage. Based on these findings, further study is needed regarding the clinical meaning of NKA.

Submucosal type cleft palate is subdivision of the cleft palate. It is very difficult to find submucosal cleft, because when we exam submucosal type cleft palate patients, it seems to be normal. But in fact, there are abnormal union of palatal muscles of submucosal type cleft palate patients. Because of late detection, the treatment - for example, the operation or the speech therapy - for the submucosal type cleft palate patient usually becomes late. Some patients visited our hospital due to speech disorder nevertheless normal intraoral appearance. After precise intraoral examination, we found out submucosal cleft palate. We evaluated the speech before and after surgery of these patients. In this study, we want to find the objective characteristics of submucosal type cleft palate patients, comparing with the normal and the complete cleft palate patients. Experimental groups were 10 submucosal type cleft palate patients and 10 complete cleft palate patients who got the operation in our hospital. And, the controls were 10 normal person. The sentence patterns using in this study were simple 5 vowels. Using CSL program we evaluated the Formant, Bandwidth. We analized the spectral characteristics of speech signals of 3 groups, before and after the operation. In most cases, the formant scores were higher in experimental groups (complete cleft palate group and submucosal type cleft palate group) than controls. There were small differences when speeching /a/, /i/, /e/ between experimental groups and control groups, large differences when speeching /o/, /u/. After surgery the formant scores were decreased in experimental groups (complete cleft palate group and submucosal type cleft palate group). In bandwidth scores, there were no significant differences between experimental groups and controls.
