실동이력에 기초한 곡선거더교의 피로균열 특성 및 분석 (Characteristic and Analysis of Fatigue Crack for Curved Girder Bridge based on the Stress Range Histerisis)

  • 곡선거더교의 복부는 교축방향의 면내응력과 면외 휨응력을 동시에 받는 구조이므로, 직선교에 비하여 플랜지와 복부의 필릿용접이음부에서의 발생응력이 상당히 크며, 또 바닥틀이나 브레이싱을 주거더에 연결시켜주는 거셋플레이트는 구조적으로 더욱 취약한 구조가 된다. 본 연구에서는 23년간 공용된 곡선거더교에서 발생된 피로균열의 발생원인을 조사하기 위하여 실제교통 흐름 하에서의 용접부에서의 응력특성을 파악하기 위하여 일련의 현장측정을 실시하였다. 이들 현장측정으로부터 여러 가지 타입에 대한 피로균열 원인을 분석하였고, 또한 주요 균열에 대한 피로수명을 평가하였다. 또한 곡선거더교 용접이음부의 구조거동 특성을 조사하기 위하여 유한요소해석을 실시하고 이들 결과를 현장측정결과와 비교분석하였다.

  • Fiber reinforced metal laminates(FRMLs) are new types of hybrid materials. FRMLs consists of high strength metal(Al 5052-H34) and laminated fiber with structural adhesive bond. The mixture ratio effect of epoxy resin$.$curing agent$.$accelerator on the fatigue behavior of FRMLs was investigated in this study. The epoxy, diglycidylether of bisphenol A(DGEBA), was cured by methylene dianiline(MDA) with or without an accelerator(K-54). Eight different kinds of resin mixture ratios were selected for the test ; five kinds of FRMLs(1) and three others of FRMLs(2). The relationship between da/dN and ΔK with variation of resin mixture ratio was studied. FRMLs(1) and FRMLs(2) indicated approximately 2 times and 2.2 times more improved maximum bending strengths in comparison with those of Al 5052-H34. The resin mixture ratio <1:1> in case of FRMLs(1) indicated the maximum fatigue life, while the resin mixture ratio <1:1:0.2> in case of FRMLs(2) indicated the maximum fatigue life. As results, FRMLs(2) turned out to have more effective characteristics on the fatigue properties and the bending strength than those of FRMLs(1).

복합재료 표면안테나 구조의 굽힘 피로특성 연구 (Bending Fatigue Characteristics of Surface-Antenna-Structure)

  • 본 논문은 비대칭 샌드위치 구조체인 표면안테나 구조의 설계 및 제작 그리고 피로거동의 관한 연구이다. 사용될 재료는 전기적 특성. 유전율 그리고 기계적 특성을 동시에 만족하여야 한다. 안테나의 전기적 특성을 위해 샌드위치 구조 층 사이에 마이크로스트립 안테나를 삽입시켰고, 위성통신을 목적으로 적절한 대역에서 설계하였다. 최종 제작된 표면 안테나 구조물은 $16{\;}{\tiems}{\;}8$개의 배열안테나로 설계시의 목적에 부합하는 특성을 나타내었다. 4점 굽힘실험을 통하여 표면안테나 구조물의 정하중 및 피로거동을 분석하였다. 피로하중은 0.75(1.875 kN) 하중수준을 나타내었다. 파단 시 변위는 굽힘실험 변위량인 5 mm 보다 많은 5.42 mm에서 파괴가 발생함을 볼 수 있었다. 피로실험결과와 단일하중 시의 피로수명 예측 식을 비교하였다.

원자력발전소 운전환경에서 SA508 Gr. 1A 저합금강의 피로 수명 분석 (Fatigue Life Analysis of SA508 Gr. 1A Low-Alloy Steel under the Operating Conditions of Nuclear Power Plant)

  • Fatigue has been known as a major degradation mechanism of ASME class 1 components in nuclear power plants. Fatigue damage could be accelerated by combined interaction of several loads and environmental factors. However, the environmental effect is not explicitly addressed in the ASME S-N curve which is based on air at room temperature. Therefore many studies have been performed to understand the environmental effects on fatigue behavior of materials used in nuclear power plants. As a part of efforts, we performed low cycle fatigue tests under various environmental conditions and analyzed the environmental effects on the fatigue life of SA508 Gr. 1a low alloy steel by comparing with higuchi's model. Test results show that the fatigue life depends on water temperature, dissolved oxygen and strain rate. But strain rate over 0.4%/s has little effect on the fatigue life. To find the cause of different fatigue life with ANL's and higuchi's model, another test performed with different heat numbered and heat treated materials of SA508 Gr. 1a. On a metallurgical point of view, the material with bainite microstructure shows much longer fatigue life than that with ferrite/pearlite microstructure. And the characteristics of crack propagation as different microstructure seem to be the main cause of different fatigue life.

  • Insulation systems in Liquefied Natural Gas Carriers (LNGC) are vulnerable to sloshing impact and fatigue loads because of waves. If gas leaks into the primary barrier, the Flexible Secondary Barrier (FSB) prevents the leakage of gas in this system. Fatigue strength of the FSB largely depends on the behavior of composite materials. In this study, a new system is applied to the FSB using aramid fiber to improve the fatigue strength of the secondary barrier, with the intention of replacing conventional E-glass fibers. The manufacturing method involved varying the ratio of the aramid fiber to the E-glass fiber for optimum design of the FSB. The fatigue tests results of the secondary barrier using aramid fiber were superior to that using E-glass fiber. The statistical analysis is performed to obtain the fatigue test results and estimate the probability of failure as well as the design guideline of LNGC secondary barriers.

  • The effect of initial ${\alpha}^{\prime}$ in STS 304 Stainless Steel on fatigue resistance, and fatigue crack propagation behavior was studied with using C-T specimens. Higher ${\Delta}K_{th}$ was observed in the specimens with the content of 0% initial ${\alpha}^{\prime}$ than in the contents of 2% and 33% initial ${\alpha}^{\prime}$. The difference of da/dN at the same level of ${\Delta}K$ was distinctive in low and intermediate level of ${\Delta}K$ however became less different as the level of ${\Delta}K$ increased. It is because the formation of strain induced martensite occurred readily in lower ${\alpha}^{\prime}$ at the vicinity of the fatigue crack tip, which causes compressive residual stresses resulting in the enhancement of crack closure. In general fatigue cracks propagated transgranular mode and many segments of ridges were observed on the fracture surfaces. At the higher contents of initial ${\alpha}^{\prime}$ appeared the smaller size of ridge segments. Slips in austenite were blocked more frequently by the martensite colonies formed in austenite.

자동차구조용 $SiC_p/Al-Si$복합재의 피로균열 진전특성에 대한 연구 (Fatigue Crack Growth Characteristics of $SiC_p/Al-Si$ Alloy Composites for Automotive Structures)

  • In order to investigate the behavior of fatigue crack growth of SiC-particulate- reinforced Al-Si alloy composites, fatigue tests using single edge notched tension(SENT) specimens were performed. Composite materials were manufactured by using both permanent die casting and extrusion processes with different volume fractions of $10\%\;and\;20\%$. $SiC_p-reinfurced$ Al-Si composites showed the increased levels of threshold stress intensity factor range, ${\Delta}K_{th}$, for the increased volume fractions of SiC particles, which implies the increased fatigue crack growth resistance at the threshold or low ${\Delta}K$ levels, compared to the unreinforced Al-Si alloy. In the Paris region, however, the composites showed the increased rate of crack growth resulting in the unfavorable effects on the fatigue crack growth resistance. Critical stress intensity factor range at unstable crack growth leading to final fracture decreased as the volume fraction of SiC particle increased, because of the reduced fracture toughness of the composites. Extruded materials showed higher threshold and critical values than the cast materials.

STS 304 압연강의 저주기 피로특성에 관한 연구 (A Characteristic Study of Low Cycle Fatigue for Rolled STS 304 Steel)

  • In this study, low cyclic fatigue test was carried out at room temperature condition for rolled STS304 steel. The results of this study show that rolled STS304 steel has excellent static tensile strength and fatigue characteristics. The relationship between plastic strain range and fatigue life was examined using the triangular wave in order to predict the low cycle fatigue life of rolled STS304 steel by Coffin-Manson equation. Cyclic behavior of rolled STS304 steel was characterized by cyclic hardening with increasing number of cycle through the Hysteresis loop analysis and cyclic response of maximum stress versus number of cycles. It is found that the plastic deformation energy consumed per cycle is reduced by calculating the area of the hysteresis loop.

전변형률 에너지밀도를 이용한 고강도 저 합금강의 저주기 피로수명 예측 (Low Cycle Fatigue Life Prediction of HSLA Steel Using Total Strain Energy Density)

  • Low cycle fatigue tests are performed on the HSLA steel that be developed for a submarine material. The relation between strain energy density and numbers of cycles to failure is examined in order to predict the low cycle fatigue life of HSLA steel. The cyclic properties are determined by a least square fit techniques. The life predicted by the strain energy method is found to coincide with experimental data and results obtained from the Coffin-Manson method. Also the cyclic behavior of HSLA steel is characterized by cyclic softening with increasing number of cycle at room temperature. Especially, low cycle fatigue characteristics and microstructural changes of HSLA steel are investigated according to changing tempering temperatures. In the case of HSLA steel, the $\varepsilon$-Cu is farmed in $550^{\circ}C$ of tempering temperature and enhances the low cycle fatigue properties.

Cr - Mo鋼 熔接 後熱處理材 의 勞破壞 에 關한 硏究

  • Post weld heat treatment(PWHT), at more than 600.deg. C, is essential to remove residual stress and hydrogen in weld HAZ and improve fatigue characteristics. However, residual stress during PWHT is responsible for PWHT embitterment and it promotes precipitation of impurities to grain boundary. In this paper, the effect of stress simulated residual stress on fatigue failure was evaluated by fatigue test, microhardness test and fractograph. The obtained results are summarized as follows; (1) The fatigue crack growth rate(da/dN) of parent and heat treated parent was affected by microstructure due to heat treatment and it depended on stress intensity factor (.DELTA.k). (2) The fatigue strength of weld HAZ was dependent on applied stress during PWHT and da/dN after PWHT was slower than as-weld. (3) Softening amount of weld HAZ was bigger than any other due to PWHT. Hardness value of weld HAZ was affected by heat treatment under the applied stress of 10 $kgf/mm^2$, but beyond 20 $kgf/mm^2$ it was increased by the applied stress rather than heat treatment. (4) Beyond the applied stress of 20 $kgf/mm^2$ during PWHT, intergranular fracture surface was observed and its amount was increased with applied stress during PWHT. (5) Effect of applied stress during PWHT on aspect of fracture surface was larger rather than that on fatigue crack growth behavior.
