Beamforming techniques have been successfully utilized for traffic channels in order to solve the interference problem. However, their use for control channels has not been sufficiently investigated. In this paper, a (semi-) centralized beamforming strategy that adaptively changes beam patterns and controls the total transmit power of cells is proposed for the performance enhancement of the common channel in hierarchical cell structure (HCS) networks. In addition, some examples of its practical implementation with low complexity are presented for two-tier HCS networks consisting of macro and pico cells. The performance of the proposed scheme has been evaluated through multi-cell system-level simulations under optimistic and pessimistic interference scenarios. The cumulative distribution function of user geometry or channel quality has been used as a performance metric since in the case of common control channel the number of outage users is more important than the sum rate. Simulation results confirm that the proposed scheme provides a significant gain compared to the random beamforming scheme as well as conventional systems that do not use the proposed algorithm. Finally, the proposed scheme can be applied simultaneously to several adjacent macro and pico cells even if it is designed primarily for the pico cell within macro cells.
These days, streaming users are using ABR (Adaptive Bitrate) technique services by requesting the most adequate video rate selectively based on their own channel states. Most ABR related video rate adaptation techniques are only focused on real-time bitrate adaptations based on their own channel state, and misses energy limited characteristics that come from a mobile device's battery dependence. In other words, the mobile device's important characteristics and accompanying energy consumption are not being considered and causes dissatisfaction over streaming services. In this paper, we propose energy efficient prefetching based dynamic adaptive video streaming techniques, which saves unnecessary consumed energy while providing video rates of the same performance. Our scheme continuously turns off energy modules with enough streaming in the buffer and turns on in case of the opposite situation to save energy. Through the performance evaluation, this study's proposed scheme is 60% better than the previous work at global average mobile download speed.

In general, because error rate of wireless link is higher than that of wired link, DLC layer protocol for wired network with low error rate is not proper for wireless environments. In addition, the conventional DLC layer protocol for wireless network is optimized for the low-speed data service, so it is difficult to use conventional DLC protocol in the current mobile communication environments handing high-speed and multimedia services. Therefore, a DLC layer protocol that is suitable to current wireless communication environments is required. In this paper, we propose a novel error control scheme that supports a variety of traffic attribute and is applicable to high-speed and multimedia data service in WATM. The proposed scheme provides enhanced throughput performance for real-time traffic by using modified ASR ARQ without ACK and reduces loss rate by using FEC in the case of high error condition. Also, for non real-time traffic, the use of ASR ARQ without ACK enhances throughput performance and delay time is decreased by using FEC in the case of high error rate channel. As a result of simulation, the proposed scheme has better performance than conventional ASR ARQ protocol in view of delay and throughput.

Recently, the use of wireless body area networks (WBAN) has been increasing rapidly in medical healthcare applications. WBANs consist of smart nodes that can be used to sense and transmit vital data such as heart rate, temperature and ECG from a human body to a medical centre. WBANs depend on limited resources such as energy and bandwidth. In order to utilise these resources efficiently, a very well organized medium access control (MAC) protocol must be considered. In this paper, a new, adaptive and energy-efficient MAC protocol, entitled isMAC, is proposed for WBANs. The proposed MAC is based on multi-channel communication and aims to prolong the network lifetime by effectively employing (i) a collision prevention mechanism, (ii) a coordinator node (WCN) selection algorithm and (iii) a transmission power adjustment approach. The isMAC protocol has been developed and modelled, by using OPNET Modeler simulation software. It is based on a networking scenario that requires especially high data rates such as ECG, for performance evaluation purposes. Packet delay, network throughput and energy consumption have been chosen as performance metrics. The comparison between the simulation results of isMAC and classical IEEE 802.15.4 (ZigBee) protocol shows that isMAC significantly outperforms IEEE 802.15.4 in terms of packet delay, throughput and energy consumption.
In this paper, the dynamic buffering based smart OTT platform was proposed, and analyzed for adaptive bit-rate video delivery with the optimization of HLS (HTTP Live Streaming). This platform consists of the software platform between sever and client which detects the bandwidth capacity, and adjusts the quality of the streaming for multiple bit-rates resolutions. In order to apply adaptive buffering, two buffers are added to the basic HLS player, and each buffer is responsible for constantly buffering a previous and the next channels relative to the current channel. This adaptive transmitting with smart OTT platform is superior to delivering a static video file at a single buffering, because the video stream of adaptive double buffers can be switched streaming according to client's available network speed. As a result, this proposed smart OTT can be cooperated to the application of HLS server with segmented H.265 MPEG-2 TS video & m3u8 files with its information based on the optimized transmission channel state of live and VOD, and applied to PLC transmission, too.
Rain attenuation and intercell interference are two crucial factors in the performance of broadband wireless access networks such as local multipoint distribution systems (LMDS) operating at frequencies above 20 GHz. Power control can enhance the performance of downlink CDMA-based LMDS systems by reducing intercell interference under clear sky conditions; however, it may damage system performance under rainy conditions. To ensure robust operation under both clear sky and rainy conditions, we propose a novel power-control scheme which applies an adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system (ANFIS) for downlink CDMA-based LMDS systems. In the proposed system, the rain rate and the number of users are two inputs of the fuzzy inference system, and output is defined as channel quality, which is applied in the power control scheme to adjust the power control region. Moreover, ITU-R P.530 is employed to estimate the rain attenuation. The influence of the rain rate and the number of users on the distance-based power control (DBPC) scheme is included in the simulation model as the training database. Simulation results indicate that the proposed scheme improves the throughput of the DBPC scheme.

This paper introduces a design for real time wireless headset using ANC (active noise control) system based on NFxLMS adaptive filter algorithm. The training time of the proposed system is significantly reduced by using the RMS delay spread of a channel as an error correction parameter, and convergence rate of the FxLMS filter has been improved with updating the coefficients of the NFxLMS filter, which we have got during the training process. Our system has shorter training time and better convergence rate at the same noise reduction level than the conventional system under real noisy environment.
This paper described adaptive ANC (Active Noise Control) systems for noise canacelling in multiple inputs and multiple outputs channel. Until this time, it was reported that the study of AMC for the multiple inputs and the multiple outputs had no correlation between input signals of adaptive filters. In fact, it is difficult independently to check the noise source signals and insufficient about this study. In this paper we proposed to use the adaptive filter for eliminating the correlation between input signals. The simulation results showed that the convergence rate improved about two times with this filter than that one without this filter at the rate $b_{12}=0.95$.

In this paper, we analyze functional requirements of the IEEE 802.22 WRAN, and propose a downlink 프레임 structure satisfying the requirements. The proposed downlink 프레임 structure maximizes e transmission efficiency by adopting the cognative radio to assign the sub-channel by reflecting the channel environment of WRAN. We also calculate the signalling overhead for both downlink and uplink, and analyze the performances of time synchronization, frequency synchronization and cell identification based on the 프리앰블 in downlink and suggest the channel estimation method tough 프리앰블 or pilot. As a final result, e stationary beamforming (SBF) algorithm with dynamic channel allocation(DCA) is proposed. The proposed OFDMA downlink 프레임 structure with channel adaptive sub-channel allocation for cognitive radio applications is verified to meet the requirements of IEEE 802.22 WRAN, by computer simulations.

In this paper, adaptive equalizer receiver for a turbo code direct sequence code division multiple access (DSCDMA) by using least mean square (LMS) adaptive algorithm is presented. The proposed adaptive equalizer is using soft output of decision feedback adaptive equalizer (DFE) to examines the output of the equalizer and the Log- maximum a posteriori (Log-MAP) algorithm for the turbo decoding process of the system. The objective of the proposed equalizer is to minimize the bit error rate (BER) of the data due to the disturbances of noise and intersymbol interference (ISI)phenomenon on the channel of the DS-CDMA digital communication system. The computer program simulation results shown that the proposed soft output decision feedback adaptive equalizer provides a good BER than the others one such as conventional adaptive equalizer, infinite impulse response adaptive equalizer.
