16-state and 320state multidimensional PSK trellis coding scheme using M-ary orthogonal modulation with a frequency-recuse technique (주파수 재 사용 기술을 이용한 M-ary 직교 16-State 및 32-State 다차원 PSK 트렐리스코딩)

  • The 16- and 32-state Trellis-coded M-ary 4-dimensional (4-D) orthogonal modulation scheme with a frequency-reuse technique have been investigated. Here, 5 coded bits form a rate 4/5 convolutional encoder provide 32 possible symbols. Then the signals are mapped by a M-ary 4-D orthogonal modulator, where each signal has equal energy and is PSK modulated. In the M-ary 4-D modulator, we have employed the vectors which is derived by the optimization technique of signal waveforms in a 4-D sphere. This technique is usedin maximizing the minimum Euclidean distance between a set of signal poits on a multidimensional sphere. By combinig trellis coding with M-ary 4-D modulation and proper set-partitioning, we have obtained a considerable impeovement in the free minimum distance of the system over an AWGN channel. The 16-state scheme obtains coding gains up to 5.5 dB over the uncoded two-independent QPSK scheme and 2.5 dB over the two-independent 2-D TCM scheme. And, the 32-state scheme obtains coding gains up to 6.4 dB over the uncoded two-independent QPSK schemeand 3.4 dB over the two-independent 2-D TCM scheme.

Photodissocaition Dynamics of Propiolic Acid at 212 nm: The OH Production Channel

  • Photodissociation dynamics of propiolic acid ($HC{\equiv}C-COOH$) at 212 nm in the gas phase was investigated by measuring rotationally resolved laser-induced fluorescence spectra of OH ($^2{\Pi}$) radicals exclusively produced in the ground electronic state. From the spectra, internal energies of OH and total translational energy of products were determined. The electronic transition at 212 nm responsible for OH dissociation was assigned as the ${\pi}_{C{\equiv}C}{\rightarrow}{\pi}^*{_{C=O}}$ transition by time-dependent density functional theory calculations. Potential energy surfaces of both the ground and electronically excited states were obtained employing quantum chemical calculations. It was suggested that the dissociation of OH from propiolic acid excited at 212 nm should take place along the $S_1/T_1$ potential energy surfaces after internal conversion and/or intersystem crossing from the initially populated $S_2$ state based upon the potential energy calculations and model calculations for energy partitioning of the available energy among products.

  • In this paper we propose a technique of implementing the reconfigurable network protocol stack that allows for partitioning network protocol functions into software and hardware tasks on a SoC (System on Chip) platform. Additionally, we present a method that guarantees the deadline of both an individual task and messages exchanging among tasks in order to meet the deadline of real-time multimedia and networking services. The proposed real-time message exchange method guarantees the deadline of messages generated by multimedia services that are required to meet the real-time properties of multimedia applications. After implementing the networking functions of TCP/IP protocol suite into hardware and software tasks, we verify and validate their performance on the SoC platform. Experimental results indicate that the proposed technique improves the performance of TCP/IP protocol suit as well as application service satisfaction in application-specific real-time.

Heuristics for Selecting Nodes on Cable TV Network (케이블 TV 망에서 노드 선택을 위한 휴리스틱 연구)

  • The cable TV network has delivered downward broadcasting signals from distribution centers to subscribers. Since the traditional coaxial cable has been upgraded by the Hybrid Fiber Coaxial(HFC) cable, the upward channels has expanded broadband services such as Internet. This upward channel is vulnerable to ingress noises. When the noises from the children nodes accumulated in an amplifier exceeds a certain level, that node has to be cut off to prevent the noise propagation. The node selection problem(NSP) is defined to select nodes so that the noise in each node does not exceed the given threshold value and the sum of Profits of selected nodes can be maximized. The NSP has shown to be NP-hard. In this paper, we have proposed heuristics to find the near-optimal solution for NSP. The experimental results show that interval partitioning is better than greedy approach. Our heuristics can be used by the HFC network management system to provide privileged services to the premium subscribers on HFC networks.

  • In this paper, a trellis-coded 3-dimensional (3-D) orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) system is presented and its performance is analyzed. Here, a set-partitioning technique for trellis coding with respect to a 3-D signal constellation is also presented. We show theoretically that the proposed system, which exploits a trellis coding scheme with recursive systematic convolutional codes (RSC) of code rate R = 1/3 and 2/3, can improve symbol error rate (SER) up to 7.8 dB as compared with the uncoded OFDM system in an additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) channel. Computer simulation confirms that the theoretical analysis of the proposed system is very accurate. It is, therefore, considered that the proposed trellis-coded 3-D OFDM system is well suited for the high quality digital transmission system without increase in the available bandwidth.

  • In this paper, a method of MPEG-2 Transport Stream (TS) multiplexing for Ultra HDTV (UHDTV) and its design and implementation as a SW tool is described. In practice, UHD video may be divided into several HD videos and each video is encoded in parallel. Therefore, it is necessary to synchronize and multiplex multiple bitstreams encoding each HD video for transmitting and storing UHD video. In this paper, it is assumed that 4 HD videos partitioning a UHD spatially are encoded as H.264/AVC and two 5.0 channel audios are encoded by AC-3. Therefore, 4 H.264/AVC elementary streams (ESs) and 2 AC-3 ESs is mainly considered in the TS multiplexing of UHD. For the carriage of H.264/AVC and AC-3 over MPEG-2 TS, PES packetization and TS multiplexing are designed and implemented based on the extended specification of the MPEG-2 Systems and ATSC (Digital audio compressed standard), respectively. The implemented UHD TS multiplexing tool emulates real time HW operation in the time unit corresponding to the duration of one TS packet transmission in a given TS rate. In particular, in order to satisfy the timing model, the buffers defined in the TS System Target Decoder (T-STD) are monitored and their statuses are considered in the scheduling of TS multiplexing. For UHD multiplexing, two kinds of multiplexing structures, which are UHD re-multiplexing and UHD program multiplexing, are implemented and their strength and weakness are investigated. The developed UHD TS multiplexing tool is tested and verified in terms of the syntax and semantics conformance and functionalities by using a commercial analyzer and real-time presentation tools.

  • The flow of a universal system-level design methodology consists of system specification, system-level hardware/software partitioning, co-design, co-verification using virtual or physical prototype, and system integration. In the developing process of a hardware component in system, the design phase has been regarded as a phase consuming lots of time and cost. However, the verification phase in which functionality of the designed component is verified has recently been considered as a much important phase. In this paper, the implementation of a verification environment which is based on SystemC infrastructure and verifies the functionality of a hardware component is described. The proposed verification system uses SystemC user-defined channel as communication interface between variables of SystemC module and registers of Verilog module. The functional verification of an UART is performed on the proposed verification system. SystemC provides class library for hardware modeling and has an advantage of being able to design a system consisting hardware and software in higher abstraction level than register transfer level. Source codes of SystemC modules are reusable with a minor adaptation on verifying functionality of another hardware component.
