  • Closed-loop transmit diversity is considered an important technique for improving the link budget in the third generation and future wireless communication standards. This paper proposes several transmit diversity algorithms suitable for small wireless terminals and presents performance assessment in terms of average signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and outage improvement, convergence, and complexity of operations. The algorithms presented herein are verified using data from measured indoor channels with variable antenna spacing and the results explained using measured radiation patterns for a two-element array. It is shown that for a two-element array, the best among the proposed techniques provides SNR improvement of about 3 dB in a tightly spaced array (inter-element spacing of 0.1 wavelength at 2 GHz) typical of small wireless devices. Additionally, these techniques are shown to perform significantly better than a single antenna device in an indoor channel considering realistic values of latency and propagation errors.

  • In this paper an adaptive channel estimator is proposed and investigated which improves the receiving performance for the DVB-T system. A conventional estimator for the system consists of a two-dimensional Wiener filter which is implemented as a cascade of one-dimensional filters, and the filter is operating with the filter coefficients set which is selected from the four different sets according to the channel environment. Our proposed estimator uses the filter coefficients which is interpolated by the two closest coefficients sets. The proposed scheme shows an improvement of 5 to 10dB in SNR compared to the conventional scheme.

  • The thermalehydraulic characteristics for the CANadian Deuterium Uranium Flexible (CANFLEX)-burnable poison (BP) fuel channel, which is loaded with a BP at the center ring based on the CANFLEX-RU (recycled uranium) fuel channel, are evaluated and compared with that of standard 37-element and CANFLEX-NU (natural uranium) fuel channels. The distributions of fuel temperature and critical channel power for the CANFLEX-BP fuel channel are calculated using the NUclear Heat Transport CIRcuit Thermohydraulics Analysis Code (NUCIRC) code for various creep rate and burnup. CANFLEX-BP fuel channel has been revealed to have a lower fuel temperature compared with that of a standard 37-element fuel channel, especially for high power channels. The critical channel power of CANFLEX-BP fuel channel has increased by about 10%, relative to that of a standard 37-element fuel channel for 380 channels in a core, and has higher value relative to that of the CANFLEX-NU fuel channel except the channels in the outer core. This study has shown that the use of a BP is feasible to enhance the thermal performance by the axial heat flux distribution, as well as the improvement of the reactor physical safety characteristics, and thus the reactor safety can be improved by the use of BP in a CANDU reactor.

  • In order to improve and manage rationally for Youngdam creek in Haman-gun, the channel change, water quality and ecological adaptation etc. were evaluated by monitoring during three years. The distinct differences of channel characteristics appeared in the extents of bed excavation and the revetment methods because overall reconstruction was occurred intense disturbance of width expansion and levee construction etc. The scour and deposition were caused according to channel characteristics of ripple and pool, and the adaptation of vegetation was distinguished from each revetment methods clearly. Water quality was maintained first class on the basis of BOD as 0.5~1.5mg/${\ell}$. The vegetation appeared in 380 species close-to-nature river improvement before, but 64 species it after one year, 159 species it after two year and 158 species it after three year. The animal life appeared in 123 species of close-to-nature river improvement before, but 103 species it after one year, 116 species it after two year and 119 species it after three year.

  • In this paper, we analyzed the error rate Performance of convolution coded 16 QAM signal with Optimum Threshold Detection with selective combining diversity in Rician Fading Environments. The performance of 16-QAM signal with CTD (conventional threshold detection) which employs convolution coding technique was analyzed and the performance improvement of convolution coded 16-QAM signal with OTD (optimum threshold detection) which is varied according to fading parameter "K" and AWGN in Rician Fading channel was simulated. As a result of analysis, it was shown the effect of performance improvement to overcome the environment of mobile radio data communication channel.

  • To implement satellite B-ISDN/ATM network, it needs to gurantee reliable transport via satelite in the poor BER environment. So, it requires to use channel coding (FEC:Forward Error Correction) schemes for improvement of BER performance, but these coding effects evoke burst errors and degradation of the QoS. Therefore we have to investigate new algorithm that compensates these weaknesses. We consider convolutional coding and concatenated coding among FEC schemes as FEC for satellite transmission and choose different compensational algorithm by the error characteristics of the using type of FEC. In using concatenated coding, this paper proposes the satellite system structure for interconnection to the terrestrial network and proposes the channel coding algorithm for improvement of transmission performances. We execute performance evaluation of the proposed algorithm by computer simulation. In detail, we propose 4 types of application ATM cell to the block coding(Reed-Solomon) and propose the new 55 byte ATM cell that enforces the error correction capability of cell header by the BCH coding. Then we propose the outer interleaverand the cell unit interleaver that evoke maximum coding effect of BCH code.

  • In this paper, we study single-user receiver, which applicable to DS-CDMA downlink. DS-CDMA downlink mainly use wallsh code, its orthogonality may be lost by the multiple access interference(MAI) caused by the multipath channel. In this paper, we use linear channel equalizer to eliminate the interference due to multipath channel and then to recover orthogonalit and use code-matched filter to detect transmitted data. Unlike existing research, which mainly assumed ideal channel information, we use pilot channel to estimate the channel coefficients. Especially we use guard symbols which are inserted periodically to estimate channel coefficients exactly without interference from user signal, and we accept an approximately ideal. The results show that improvement can be achieved using proposed detectors compared with that of that conventional RAKE receiver, especially when the user population is high we accepts excellent performance improvement.

  • An Improvement of channel structure for sound fish habitat suitability enhancement is investigated. The restoration target species of Zacco Koreanus which is represented a sound aquatic ecosystem is selected by investigating results of the fish fauna and the river environments. The changes of lower channel width for enhancing suitability indices for water velocity and depth result in habitat suitability enhancement in general by PHABSIM simulation. The habitat suitability enhancement is not guaranteed consistently by the changes of lower channel is confirmed. The optimal lower channel widths at each reach are presented by genetic algorithm of optimization which is considering the enhancement of suitability indices for water velocity and depth with given instream flows. The suggested plan of the lower channel modification will contribute to the various projects for the environmental improvement of aquatic system.

  • In natural river, river-bed change is greatly influenced by the various factors such as river improvement, change of watershed land use, construction of dam and reservoir, gravel mining, and so on. The knowledge about river-bed change in the river is essential in the river modification, wetlands plan, and maintaining stable alluvial rivers. In this study, river-bed change in the future was predicted by investigating river channel characteristics which play dominant role in the formation of channel and based on the numerical model through river survey and the grain size analysis. The Proposed investigation and model was applied to the Geum river and the Miho stream which have been experienced river degradation due to river aggregate dredging and now seams to be stable. The result of potential river-bed change which was estimated by investigating channel characteristic including slope of channel, friction velocity, and so on is similar to that which was estimated based on the numerical model. It was found that the Geum river and the Miho stream will be stable. In the future, if considering the characteristics of river channel which is estimated by the river-bed scour, sediment, and so on, it is possible that river improvement and wetland restoration plan are established stably and naturally.

  • This study aims at improving the channel of Pudo-sudo in Chinhae-Man according to the development project of the port of Masan, by investigating the design criteria of harbour facilities for the maximum sized ship. The new deep-water route was proposed and according to it the present separation scheme was adjusted appropriately. The width of the deep-water route is suggested to be 350m and would be wide enough for the 30,000 DWT container ship to go through However, the proposed channel will be tested and validated by the shiphandling simulator.
