  • In this paper, the parameters of the RTT (Radio Transmission Techniques) for SANET (Ship Ad-hoc NETwork), which is considered for the next generation maritime communication systems, are set up. A channel model has been analyzed based on the practical measured maritime wireless channel in VHF (Very-High Frequency) for SANET system. Also, by considering the frame structure including preamble, guard time and pilots for both single and multi-carrier systems, the BER (Bit Error Rate) performances are evaluated and analyzed in the aspects of channel compensation and channel coding techniques. Based on the simulation results, optimal modulation & coding schemes are suggested for SANET. That is, in single-carrier system by using differential modulation schemes, channel compensation is not necessary. However, channel coding is helpful to achieve additional gain. On the other hand, when 16-QAM modulation is employed in multi-carrier system, the implementation of both channel compensation and channel coding techniques show huge performance gain for various of K values, which are related to different maritime environments, and the rolling effects of wave.

  • Blind channel identification and equalization attempt to identify the communication channel and to remove the inter-symbol interference caused by a communication channel without using any known trainning sequences. In this paper, we propose a blind adaptive channel identification and equalization algorithm with phase offset compensation for single-input multiple-output (SIMO) channel. It is based on the one-step forward multichannel linear prediction error method and can be implemented by an RLS algorithm. Phase offset problem, we use a blind adaptive algorithm called the constant modulus derotator (CMD) algorithm based on condtant modulus algorithm (CMA). Moreover, unlike many known subspace (SS) methods or cross relation (CR) methods, our proposed algorithms do not require channel order estimation. Therefore, our algorithms are robust to channel order mismatch.

  • As a preliminary study for improving recognition performance of the connected digit telephone speech, we investigate feature parameters as well as channel compensation methods of telephone speech. The CMN and RTCN are examined for telephone channel compensation, and the MFCC, DWFBA, SSC and their delta-features are examined as feature parameters. Recognition experiments with database we collected show that in feature level DWFBA is better than MFCC and for channel compensation RTCN is better than CMN. The DWFBA+Delta_ Mel-SSC feature shows the highest recognition rate.

  • A radio over fiber (RoF) system is a kind of analog optical transmission system and considered as a strong candidate for the next-generation fronthaul link in the future mobile network. In RoF systems, nonlinearity compensation is essential to increase the link capacity. In this paper, we propose a nonlinearity detection and compensation scheme using a monitoring channel in RoF systems. A monitoring channel is added at the transmitter site and used for transmitting a reference signal in an RoF transmission. The nonlinearity in the RoF transmission is detected by comparing the received monitoring signal and the original reference signal at the receiver site. Finally, the nonlinearity is compensated at the receiver by giving the reverse function of the detected nonlinearity. Our results show that the proposed scheme can almost remove the error vector magnitude degradation induced by the nonlinearity in the RoF system.

  • Cepstral Mean Subtraction (CMS) makes effectively compensation for a channel distortion, but there are some shortcomings such as distortions of feature parameters, waiting for the whole speech sentence. By assuming that the silence parts have the channel characteristics, we consider the channel normalization using subtraction of cepstral means which are only obtained in the silence areas. If the considered techniques are successfully used for the channel compensation, the proposed method can be used for real time processing environments or time important areas. In the experiment result, however, the performance of our method is not good as CMS technique. From the analysis of the results, we found potentiality of the proposed method and will try to find the technique reducing the gap between CMS and ours method.

  • We study how to determine backorder cost at the warehouse in a one-warehouse/N-retailer distribution system such that channel efficiency (minimizing total system costs) is improved. We define backorder costs as compensation that the warehouse pays to the retailer for the number or orders delayed due to stockout at the warehouse. We answer two questions : (1) "Should the warehouse compensate for his backorder\ulcorner" and (2) "Is there any equilibrium for both the warehouse and retailer while they are seeking for their own profits\ulcorner" We show that : (1) "The warehouse should pay backorder costs for the sake of channel efficiency." and (2) "There exists an equilibrium that is infiuenced by the amount of compensation." First, we prove the existence of a mutually acceptable equilibrium for both the warehouse and the retailer, which is different from Nash equilibrium because they independently maximize their respective profits with incomplete information about each other. Second, we prove that the equilibrium moves to a point such that channel efficiency is improved if the warehouse compensates the retailers for his backorders. We show the existence of an optimal compensation that minimizes total system costs. Third, we show that the amount of optimal compensation increases as the ratio of mean lead time for the warehouse to that for the retailer increases.ouse to that for the retailer increases.

  • In this paper, we propose an approach which constructs classifier ensembles of various channel compensation and feature enhancement methods. CMN and CMVN are used as channel compensation methods. PCA, kernel PCA, greedy kernel PCA, and kernel multimodal discriminant analysis are used as feature enhancement methods. The proposed ensemble system is constructed with the combination of 15 classifiers which include three channel compensation methods (including 'without compensation') and five feature enhancement methods (including 'without enhancement'). Experimental results show that the proposed ensemble system gives highest average speaker identification rate in various environments (channels, noises, and sessions).

  • The diversity reception and the equal gain combining technique are applied to the compensation of the distortion of channel, which occurs in transmission of data at rapid speed. DSSS BPSK system which has the receiving structure with the compensation algorithm is formed on the diversity branch, and the characteristics of the system are evaluated at the view point of the average bit error rate due to the SNR. In addition, the multi-tap update algorithm which is superior for the data compensation is suggested. Moreover, using the American Joint Technical Committee PCS RF channel characterization and system deployment model standard, the suggested multi-tap update algorithm is compared and analyzed with the view-point of the average bit error rate and convergence speed for evaluating the realistic efficiency of the system.

  • In this paper, we investigated the degree of compensation for distorted optical pulse of wavelength division multiplexed(WDM) channel with initial frequency chirp generated in optical transmitter. The WDM channel signal distortion is due to chromatic dispersion, self phase modulation(SPM) and cross phase modulation(XPM) in fiber. The considered system is 3 ${\times}$ 40 Gbps intensity modulation direct detection(IM/DD) WDM transmission systems, which adopted mid-span spectral inversion(MSSI) as compensation method. We confirmed that the effect of initial frequency chirp on compensation for signal distortion due to a SPM is gradually decreased as a dispersion coefficient of fiber becomes gradually small. But, in the aspect of a compensation for signal distortion due to both SPM and XPM, the effect of initial frequency chirp on compensation is gradually decreased as a dispersion coefficient of fiber becomes gradually large.

  • The effects of linear acoustic channels have been analyzed and compensated at mel-frequency feature domain. Unlike popular RASTA filtering our approach incorporates separate filters for each mel-frequency band, which results in better recognition performance for heavy-reverberated speeches.
