The study is to suggest the roles of school library professionals upon changes of school libraries according to the 7th Korean Educational Curriculum. With this purpose, it investigates the policies and current status of allocations of school library professionals, and the interview of non-regular librarian about works. The study also compares job understanding of teacher-librarians, teachers managing school libraries and that of non-regular librarians in school libraries. It suggested the desirable roles of school library professionals.

This paper tries to interpret the processes of establishing the public libraries in Changwon City and its changing sociological roles. The roles of the public libraries are changing according to the aspects of the communities. Thus roles of the libraries in Changwon have also changed with the various changes in Korean society. The periods are divided into three: before the declaration June 29(1980-1987); the appearances of civil libraries and local community libraries(1988-1998); the maeul (which means small community) libraries that the citizens have established and participated. By the three periods this paper interprets the processes of establishing the libraries and their changing in Changwon City.

Through the UN 2030 Agenda adopted by the United Nations, sustainable development is bringing about many changes around the world. While discussions continue on the roles of libraries in supporting sustainable development in library communities, specific discussions on this have not been made enough. This study reconsidered the roles and functions of libraries to support sustainable development and discussed approaches to which libraries can perform in terms of informational, social, cultural, and environmental aspects. It also proposed a plan to allow libraries and librarians to lay the groundwork for supporting the sustainable development of society by reconsidering the roles of librarians as the core of all library activities to support sustainable development.

This paper tries to interpret the processes of small libraries changing sociological role and its direction of movement in Masan City. The roles of small libraries are changing according to the aspects of the communities. Thus the roles of the small libraries in Masan have also changed with the various changes in Korean society. The periods are divided into three : 1980's : the appearances of civil libraries, 1990's : maeul libraries that the citizens have established and participated, 2000's : small libraries that have established from cooperation of government and private. Public libraries have been well adapted for the changes in lifestyle and socio-cultural environments brought by the rapid advancement of information technology, the development of mass communities, and the increase in leisure activities. Government and local communities demand public libraries to take in charge of providing lifelong education for the Public. Many Public libraries have worked as a center for life-long education, while carrying out various functions and services in close relation with the life of community members. Public libraries are in a very poor condition, lacking the facilities, professional workforce, budgets, and so on, which are sufficient to strengthen their role as a center for life-long education. In this study, the roles of public libraries in developing life-long education are examined as follows : First, the concepts and directions of life-long education are discussed : second, the roles of public libraries in facilitating life-long education are examined and third, the categories of life-long education programs of public libraries are suggested.

The roles of librarians have been changing with the paradigm shift of libraries. The paradigm of libraries has shifted from a traditional information management-centered way to a hybrid approach emphasizing a balance between collection and access. This study analyzed the internal and external changes of libraries to create Blue Ocean of special libraries by using the SWOT analysis. and adopted ERCR analysis for the reasonable management of libraries. The findings of this study indicate that the scope of role played by librarians belonging to special libraries shall be diversified from their traditional library activities in order to adapt themselves to changes in time. The Blue Ocean Strategy can be successfully developed only if the activities of libraries have been changed so that they are closely related to those activities for which such affiliate organizations are expected to carry out.

Following the rapid development and change of information technologies and sociocultural environments, public libraries are recently facing demand for various changes regarding their traditional functions and roles. They need to make efforts to understand accurately the changing factors of their surrounding environments and their resulting job changes so that they can make active responses to the changes of the times. The purposes of this study are to diagnose changing situations in the current surrounding environments and job content of public libraries and propose a basic direction for them to figure out and react to the causes of their core change content. For these purposes, the study 1) examined literature and previous studies on the surrounding environments and job factors of public libraries, 2) reviewed current job states and change cases in major criteria and standards, legislations, institutions, and policies about public libraries, and finally 3) identified the factors of their surrounding environments and job changes, tested their validity in the delphi method.

This paper shows that digital libraries can be understood through STIN models which emphasize interactions among components in networks. The enrollment strategies in the American Memory make human and non-human factors interact. Specifically, this paper articulates that the relationships between users and collections, between users and staff, and between users and users are closely linked through the strategies . Observing the linkages among these components ,this paper found that the enrollment processes not only draw users to the American Memory, but also alter roles of components and creates new roles and players for them. The alterations of roles and the resulting changes of relationships among components mean that digital libraries lead to transform the grounding of knowledge works in a society.

The purpose of this article is to discuss both management philosophy and development strategies that Korean university libraries should have and follow for a healthy and steady development in such a rapid and dynamic digital environment. To the end, the substance of the undergoing ‘environmental change’was identified, and the needed new roles and functions of university libraries were also analyzed. Also discussed is the intrinsic limitations of university libraries which might have negative impacts on the libraries'active effort to cope with such changes. Finally, this article suggests that both philosophical and practical strategies and methods in order for the university libraries to overcome such limitations and to prosper in the near future.

This study aims to analyze the trend of library use according to the expansion of public library infrastructure in Korea, and to search for new roles and services of libraries based on the results of the study. Using the statistical analysis, literature review and partially interview method, the number of borrowers and loans from 2009 to 2019 were analyzed. The result of the survey reveals that the number of public libraries increased by 61.3% during the survey period, while the number of borrowers decreased by 57.5%, and the number of book loans increased only by 18.2%. The result of the analysis claims that the causes of the decrease in the number of materials borrowers were an error in the process of inputting statistics and manipulating the number of book loans by the local library. The population of children and young adults decreased during the survey period, which led to a decrease in the number of children and young adult borrowers. The result of the study reveals that the increase in the use of public libraries in Korea, like other advanced countries, is stagnant. The following new roles and services are suggested for the development of public libraries: Libraries expand non-face-to-face services and electronic resources, and promote their use. Libraries expand cultural and lifelong learning programs further.
