  • To study the effect of a disc creep on the cauda-equina occlusion, 3D-viscoelastic FE model including dura mater was developed. The model was analyzed according to various loading conditions and studied the contact between cauda-equina and nearby elements with time. With this contact the volume of the cauda-equina was changed. The contact and change of the volume were happened most highly in extension with time. By this result, it was concluded that the extension is the most fatal motion to cauda-equina in lumbar spine in all time region.

  • Visual tracking is a challenging task that needs learning an effective model to handle the changes of target appearance caused by factors such as pose variation, illumination change, occlusion and motion blur. In this paper, a novel tracking algorithm based on weighted local sub-space reconstruction error is presented. First, accounting for the appearance changes in the tracking process, a generative weight calculation method based on structural reconstruction error is proposed. Furthermore, a template update scheme of occlusion-aware is introduced, in which we reconstruct a new template instead of simply exploiting the best observation for template update. The effectiveness and feasibility of the proposed algorithm are verified by comparing it with some state-of-the-art algorithms quantitatively and qualitatively.

  • In this study, a minimum amount of the vertical occlusion was secured differently in each type of mandibular advance devices snoring and Class I malocclusion patients wore these devices. This study analyzes, after the use of devices, a different amount of the vertical occlusion results in a change of the area of upper airway by additional changes such as mandibular position, muscle changes, tongue position. The higher the vertical amount, the area of the upper airway was shown smaller, And if the patient's tongues was prevented from the distal movement, the area of the upper airway had increased, To reduce snoring, doctors should accurately diagnose patients' occlusal relationships and select a MAD snoring that is appropriate for the occlusion. The dental technician who builds the selected device should also consider design settings such as the amount of vertical occlusion, the finish lines, and the thickness of the device to increase the effectiveness of the device.

  • The collapse of the posterior occlusion destroys the normal occlusal plane and causes excessive wear reducing the vertical dimension. Reduced vertical dimension of occlusion causes not only aesthetic and functional problems but also overloading on the temporomandibular joints and abnormalities of muscle nerve system. In order to improve the collapsed occlusal relationship, it is necessary to consider the change of the vertical dimension. It is necessary to make a precise diagnosis and analysis before the treatment and to evaluate the adaption of patient to the new vertical dimension of occlusion. A patient with excessive overbite often has occlusal problems of tooth wear and tooth eruption. Considering these considerations, overall prosthodontic restoration is required to solve the problem. A patient of 68 year old man in this case who suffered major tooth wear and maxillary posterior teeth loss was treated with elevation of vertical dimension of occlusion by maxillary removable dental prosthesis and mandibular fixed prosthesis.

  • The purpose of this study was to evaluate the compensatory changes of occlusal plane angle in relation to skeletal factors. Lateral cephalograms of 61 adults with normal occlusion and 92 adults with skeletal malocclusions were traced and measured to analyze skeletal factors and occlusal plane angles. In terms of horizontal relationships, the normal occlusion group and malocclusion group were classified Into subgroups of skeletal Classes I, II, and III, while in terms of vertical relationships, each group was also classified into horizontal , average, and vertical subgroups. Some measurements were evaluated statistically by ANOVA and Post Hoc, and the others were reviewed by Paired t-tests. In this study, only the occlusal plane angle to AB plane did not show a significant difference between the normal occlusion group and malocclusion group. After treatment, the occlusal plane angle to the AB plane of the malocclusion group was approximated to that of normal occlusion group. The LOP to AB plane angle of the normal occlusion group was 91.7 in skeletal Class I, 88.8 in skeletal Class II, and 93.5 in skeletal Class III. This study was done to assess the treatment changes of the occlusal plane in the malocclusion group, and to draw a comparison with the normal occlusion group in order to present a reference to establish a new occlusal plane inclination.

  • Lowering observers' view-height may increase the amount of occlusion across objects in a visual scene and prevent the accurate identification of the objects in the scene. Based on this possibility, memory stimuli in relation to their expected views from different heights were displayed in this study. Thereafter, visual short-term memory (VSTM) performance for the stimuli was measured. In Experiment 1, the memory stimuli were presented on a grid-background drawn according to linear perspectives, which varied across observers' three different view-heights (high, middle, and low). This allowed the participants to remember both the color and position of each memory stimulus. The results revealed that testing participants' VSTM performance for the stimuli under a different memory load of two set-sizes (3 vs. 6) demonstrated an evident drop of performance in the lowest view-height condition. In Experiment 2, the performance for six stimuli with or without the grid-background was tested. A similar pattern of performance drop in the lowest condition as in Experiment 1 was found. These results indicated that different view-heights of an observer can change the amount of occlusion across objects in the visual field, and the sensory interference driven by the occlusion may further influence VSTM performance for those objects.

  • The understanding the nature of occlusal tooth contacts of natural dentition is important for correct diagnosis and treatment of diseases developed in stomatognatic system. Several investigator have studied the distribution of tooth contacts in maximum intercuspation and have repored contact locations with respect to the tooth position. However, there are few report the variation of the occlusal contact point with change in each head position. This study analysed the number of occlusal contact point with change in each head position. 30 subject(male 17, female 13), who ahad natural occlusion and no symptoms of temporomandibular disorder, were selected. The numbers and patterns of tooth contact were recorded by silicone bite registration on stone model at four different head positions with head anguration gauge(from the supine to the upright position). The results obtained were as follows : 1. The numbers of total occlusal contact point on teeth increased to average 25, 29, 35, 42 points as head angulation was changed from the supine to the upright position against the ala-tragus line, and there was significant difference(P<0.05). 2. In the 19 subject(65%)of total 30 subject, the perforated point of the silicone bite indicated that the locus for the prime contact point moved mesially as the head angulation was changed from the supine to the upright position. 3. On the basis of the fact that the anterior occlusal contact point increase as head angulation changed from the supine to the upright position, we could find that the mandibular position is moved anteriorly.
