The Experimental Estimation of the Effect on the Body Heat by the Artemisia-Lotion Pad

  • This paper is performed to find the effects on body heat by stimulating the skin with the heat of a moxibustion cauterizer and the Artemisia-lotion which cause the extension of the blood vessel. The Artemisia-lotion is made by extracting the vasodilator and antioxidant compounds from the $Artemisia-CH_2Cl_2$ fraction. The moxibustion cauterizer is constructed with a DC power supply and 3 heating electrodes with PTC(Positive Temperature Coefficients) thermistor. The stimulation temperature level of the moxibustion cauterizer is $45^{\circ}C\;-48^{\circ}C$. We gave the subjects the following stimulating conditions; only heat stimulation, only Artemisia -lotion stimulation, and both stimulations. The measurement of body heat was performed with a infrared thermography system . Finally we could estimate the effects of a betterment of circulation of the blood from $Artemisia-CH_2Cl_2$ fraction.

  • 청말 중서의회통파인 장석순의 의학사상을 "의학충중참서록"를 중심으로 정리하였다. 고전을 철처히 이해하여 동양의학의 이론을 바탕으로 서양의학을 접목시켜 장점을 취하고 단점을 보완하려고 노력하였다. 그의 의학적인 이론으로는 대기론, 기화론, 간병론, 화어법 등이 있고, 상한론과 온병학의 통합을 주장하고 내과병증에 다양한 방법을 제시하였다.

Arthrobacter subterraneus sp. nov., Isolated from Deep Subsurface Water of the South Coast of Korea

  • Strain $CH7^T$, a pale yellow-pigmented bacterium and new isolate from deep subsurface water of the South Coast of Korea, was subjected to a polyphasic taxonomic study. $CH7^T$ grew between 5 and $37^{\circ}C$, pH 5.3-10.5, and tolerated up to 13% NaCl. A phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA gene sequences showed that strain $CH7^T$ was associated with the genus Arthrobacter and phylogenetically closely related to the type strains Arthrobacter tumbae (99.4%) and Arthrobacter parietis (99.1%). However, DNA-DNA hybridization experiments revealed 2.1% and 12% between strain $CH7^T$ and Arthrobacter tumbae and Arthrobacter parietis, respectively. Thus, the phenotypic and phylogenetic differences suggested that $CH7^T$ should be placed in the genus Arthrobacter as a novel species, for which the name Arthrobacter subterraneus sp. novo is proposed. In addition, the type strain for the new species is $CH7^T$ ($=KCTC\;9997^T=DSM\;17585^T$).

Synthesis and Characterization of New Mono-N-functionalized Tetraaza Macrocyclic Nickel(II) and Copper(II) Complexes

  • The reaction of bromoacetonitrile with 3,14-dimethyl-2,6,13,17-tetraazatetracyclo[$16.4.1^{2.6}.0^{1.18}.0^{7.12}$]tricosane ($L^{10}$) containing a N-$CH_2$-N linkage produces 17-cyanomethyl-3,14-dimethyl-2,6,13,17-tetraazatetracyclo-[$16.4.1^{2.6}.0^{1.18}.0^{7.12}$]tricosane ($L^{11}$). The mono-N-functionalized macrocyclic complexes $[ML^2]^{2+}$ (M = Ni(II) or Cu(II); $L^2$ = 2-cyanomethyl-5,16-dimethyl-2,6,13,17-tetraazatricyclo[$16.4.0.0^{7.12}$]docosane) can be prepared by the reaction of $L^{11}$ with nickel(II) or copper(II) ion in acetonitrile. The N-$CH_2CN$ group attached to $[ML^2]^{2+}$ readily reacts with water or methanol to yield the corresponding complexes of $HL^3$ bearing one N-$CH_2CONH_2$ pendant arm or $L^4$ bearing one $N-CH_2C(=NH)OCH_3$ group. The $N-CH_2CONH_2$ or $N-CH_2C(=NH)OCH_3$ group of each complex is coordinated to the central metal ion. Both $[NiL^4(H_2O)]^{2+}$ and $[CuL^4]^{2+}$ are quite stable in acidic aqueous solutions, but undergo hydrolysis to yield $[Ni(HL^3)(H_2O)]^{2+}$ or $[Cu(HL^3)]^{2+}$ in basic aqueous solutions. In contrast to $[Cu(HL^3)]^{2+}$, $[Ni(HL^3) (H_2O)]^{2+}$ is readily deprotonated to form $[NiL^3 (H_2O)]^+$ ($L^3$ = a deprotonated form of $HL^3$) in basic aqueous solutions.

  • Ginseng saponins have been known as main active principles and analyzed as the index components in ginseng and its products for quality control. But it is generally difficult to analyze the saponins in crude drug preparations. Saponins, Prosapogenins and sapogenins of crude drug preparation were identified by TLC and determined quantitatively by HPLC. $Prosapogemins-Rg_3\;-Rg_2\;and\;{\Delta}^{20}-prosapogenin$ were extracted with ethyl acetate from $50\%$ acetic acid hydrolyzates of saponin fractions and identified by TLC with lower phase of $CHCl_3/MeOH/H_2$ O\65:35:10. v/v)on silica gel plate, and quantified by HPLC on $Lichrosorb-NH_2$ column with $CH_3CN/H_2O(90:10,\;v/v).$ Sapogenins. panaxadiol and panaxatriol. were extracted with ethyl ether from $7\%-sulfuric$ acid hydrolyzates of saponin fractions and identified by TLC with chloroform/acetone(1 : 1 v/v) on silica gel plate. and quantified by HPLC on u - Bondapak $C^{18}$ column with $CH_3CN/MeOH/CHCl_3(83:10:7.\;v/v).$ These analyses of prosapogenins and sapogenins are more useful for quality control than those of saponins in crude drug preparations such as So - Shi - Ho - Tang(소시호탕), Sa - Kun - Ja - Tang(사군자탕), Yook - Kun - Ja - Tang(육군자탕), and In - Sam -Tang(인삼탕)

Theoretical Studies on the Gas-Phase Pyrolysis of Esters The effect of ${\alpha}$- and ${\beta}$-methylation of Ethyl Formates

  • The gas-phase thermolysis reactions of ${\alpha}$- and ${\beta}$-methylated ethyl formates, Y = $CH-X-CHR_1CH_2R_2$ where X = Y = O or S and $R_1\;=\;R_2$ = H or $CH_3$, are investigated theoretically using the AM1 method. The experimental reactivity order is reproduced correctly by AM1 in all cases. The thermolysis proceeds through a six-membered cyclic transition state conforming to a retro-ene reaction, which can be conveniently interpreted using the frontier orbital theory of three-species interactions. The methyl group substituted at $C_{\alpha}\;or\;C_{\beta}$ is shown to elevate the ${\pi}$-HOMO of the donor fragment (Y = C) and depress the ${\sigma}^{\ast}$-LUMO of the acceptor fragment ($C_{\beta}$-H), increasing the nucleophilicity of Y toward ${\beta}$-hydrogen which in turn increases the reactivity. The two bond breaking processes of the $C_{\alpha}$-X and $C_{\beta}$-H bonds are concerted but not synchronous so that the reaction takes place in two stages as Taylor suggested. The initial cleavage of $C_{\alpha}$-X is of little importance but the subsequent scission of $C_{\beta}$-H occurs in a rate determining stage.

백굴채(白屈菜) 추출물의 피지생성 억제효과 (Inhibitory Effect of Extract of Chelidonii Harba on Sebum Synthesis)

  • Sebum is secreted due to the effect of androgen, which start to be secreted at puberty. Androgens have profound effects on the physiology of the sebaceous gland, Using the human sebocyte cell line SZ95, we investigated the inhibitory effect of Chelidonii Harba (CH) on the subum production. Our results showed that numerous cytoplasmic lipid droplets were examined by Oil red staining and lipid droplets were increased markedly by testosterone. Cell viability was dose-dependently decreased by CH as compared with untreated cells, while total lipid content and cholesterol slightly were increased by CH. Testosterone significantly stimulated the synthesis of total lipid and the synthesis of specific sebaceous lipids such as cholesterol and triglyceride. Combined treatment with CH and testosterone resulted in a lower lipid synthesis than with testosterone alone. Especially cholesteol content was reduced by combined treatment with CH and testosterone. These results indicate that CH inhibits the testosterone-induced lipid synthesis in SZ95 cells and acts antagonistically to androgen at the cellular level.

  • This work shows that both L2 and L3 bearing two and four N-$(CH_2)_2OCH_3$ groups, respectively, can be prepared selectively by the reaction of $L^1$ with 1-bromo-2-methoxyethane. The di-N-substituted macrocycle $L^2$ readily forms its copper(II) and nickel(II) complexes. The N-$(CH_2)_2OCH_3$ groups in $[CuL^2]^{2+}$ are coordinated to the metal ion, whereas those in $[NiL^2]^{2+}$ are not involved in coordination. Interestingly, $L^3$ reacts with $Cu^{2+}$ ion to form $[Cu(HL^3)]^{3+}$, in which one tertiary amino group is not involved in coordination.

  • Fusobacterium nucleatum는 그람 음성이면서, 절대 혐기성 및 막대 또는 가는 섬유 모양의 세균이다. F. nucleatum는 사람의 구강 내 정상세균총의 하나이고, 치주질환의 원인인자이면서 다양한 전신질환과도 연관성이 있다. F. nucleatum KCOM 1323 (= ChDC F317) 균주가 사람 치주질환 병소의 치은연하치면세균막에서 분리되었다. F. nucleatum KCOM 1323 균주 유전체 염기서열을 해독하여 보고한다.

레티노익 산의 형태와 구조-활성 관계 -레티노벤조익 산- (Conformation of Retinoic Acid and Structure-Activity Relationships -Retinobenzoic Acid-)

  • The structure-activity relationships of (E)-chalcone-4-carboxylic acids, flavone-4'-carboxylic acids, two types of aromatic amides, terephthalic monoanilides, and (arylcarboxamido)benzoic acids, which were made by Shudo group, are discussed by conformation analysis(AM1) of retinoic acid and those compounds. Conformer of each compound is superimposed on the conformationally restricted compound, 4-(6,7,8,9-tetrahydro-6,6,9,9-tetramethyl-4H-4-oxonaphto[ 2,3-b]pyran-2-yl) benzoic acid(Fv80), possessing the strongest differentiation-inducing activity on human promyelocytic leukemia cells HL-60. The results indicated that the lengths between the carboxylic carbon and the two 6, 9 carbons binding to dimethyl, 1.20 nm and 1.09 nm, as well as the planarity of molecule are very important factors for the activity, especially 1.20 nm. In the case of the recently synthesized azulenic retinoic acids by Sato, et al. in 1993, the distance probably is also important, resulted from superimposing them on a Ch55 conformer and Fv80. The distance 1.0 nm is also important in Ch55. Several conformers of all-trans retinoic acid (RA) are well superimposed on the almost non-flexible Fv80, RA, 9-cis RA, and, specifically s-10,12 cis RA. And a simple hexangular model of RA is suggested to draw RA conformers easily without computer drawing model or molecular model.
