  • 1. For the prophylaxis of ceroidosis Vitamin E and C supplemented diet(POV 90.4mEg/kg) was used for flounder culture during 80 days. 2. The supplementation of Vitamin E and C with our tested concentrations on the high POV diet supported almost normal growth of flounder. It is very much comparable with the abnormal growth of flounder fed the diet of high POV. 3. The best prophylactic effect were appeared the high POV diet supplemented with Vitamin E 1mg/g diet and Vitamin C 2IU/g diet. These results were analyzed by histological observation of tissues.

  • Nutritional ceroidosis accompanied with histopathological changes such as myopathy and visceral ceroidosis, was experimentally induced by feeding the oxidized feed with the peroxide value of 98meq/kg, to common carp resulting in some motalities of carp. To see the effect of treacetment survivors of the above fish were orally administered by feeding diets containing daily doses of 3mg and 6mg of glutathione per kg fish for 10 days or 20 days. While control and 3mg dosage group retained viscerral ceroidosis and showed evidence myopathy histo pathologically, the fish treated with 6mg of glutathione for 20days showed obvious reduction of macrophages of ceroid in the viscera.

  • 1. By feeding on high Peroxidation Value(POV : 90.4mEq/kg) diets for 180 days, the cultured flounder were induced ceroidosis antificially. 2. The supplementation of glutathione to the diets having POV of 15.5mEq/kg improved the growth of the flounder that had shown depressed by the previous high POV diets(90.4mEq/kg). However, we found very much the same degree of improvement on growth by the supplemented diets of glutathione from 10mg/kg/day to 40mg/kg/day. 3. After 7 days, the flounder fed on the diets supplemented with 10, 30mg/kg/day glufthione start the recover from the accumulated ceroid and damaged tissues. These treated flounders with glutathione showed completely normal histlogical signo after 21 days. The effect of glutathione treatment with high concentration(30mg/kg/day) was better than that of low concentration(10mg/kg/day).

  • 1. For the induction of ceroidosis, the flounders were fed on the different Peroxidation Value(POV) diets for 6 months from April 1 to September 27, 1991. The growth of the flounder fed on the high POV diets, 90.4mEq/kg and 36.9mEq/kg, were markedly decreased after 3 months and 4 months respectively, compared to those fed on the two different low POV diets, 15.5mEq/kg or 15.2mEq/kg. 2. Histologically, it was hard to observe any pathological signs in the tissues of the control group with normal diets(POV 10.5mEq/kg). With the increasing of POV values of diets, severe ceroid accumulation and parenchymal degenerative lesions were found in the liver, spleen and kindeny. However, any abmormalities were not observed in muscle and intestine been in high POV diets fed flounder.

  • Tilapia, Oreochromis niloticus, weighing 100g on average was fed on the oxidized pellet diets in peroxide value (POV) 102 meq/kg, with or without the vitamin mixture of C and E for 67 days. After administration of vitamin mixture for 67 days, the fish fed them displayed better growth than the fish fed oxidized pellet only. The fish fed low level of the vitamin mixture or the oxidized pellet retained visceral ceroidosis but did not show myopathy. But the fish administered high level of the vitamin mixture lossed macrophages disposing of ceroid in the viscera. Based on the results, the administration of vitamin mixture at high level was effective as prophylaxis for ceroidosis.

  • In order to investigate the effects of glutathione against ceroidosis on flounder, Paralichthys olivaceus, a serial experiment was carried out at indoor tanks in Cheju province, the southern island of R.O.Korea, from October 1 to November 4 of 1991. The choosed group of flounder for this experiment, ranged from 92 to 122g in body weight, already showed a distinct histological ceroidosis in liver, spleen, kidney about six months before this experiment. They were fed on formulated diets supplemented with glutathione of 0mg, 1mg, 2mg, 5mg, 10mg per kg of diet per day. Some flounders were fed on the decomposed diet as a control continuosuly. Two individuals fed on the experimental diets were cought at an interval 7 days for 35 days and analyzed the values of blood indexs. 1. While the values of RBC, Hb, Ht, MCHC, MCV of flounder fed on the decomposed diet and the glutathione non-supplemented diet were not changed compared with the beginning levels of experiment, those fed on the glutathione supplemented diets, showed markedly increased values from 7th day of experiment and from 21th day of experiment reached to the values of healthy flounder. 2. The variation of TP, Glu, Alp, BUN, TG, T-cho, GOT and GPT were not observed in the groups fed on the control diet and glutathione non-supplemented diet. In contrast, those values in the groups fed on the glutathione supplemented diets were markedly decreased from 7th day and become constant from 21th day. 3. The effect of glutathione supplementation with high concentration in diets showed much better improvements of symptoms concequently, compared with those of low concentration diets.
