Consolidation of Powders by magnetic pulsed compaction (자기펄스 가압 성형장치를 이용한 분말성형)

  • In this research, we introduce a new process for the consolidation of different types of powders such as metal and ceramic powders by using a magnetic pulsed compaction (MPC). The successful consolidation of many kinds of powers including nanopowder by MPC has been presented. A wide range of experimental studies were carried out for characterizing mechanical properties and microstructure of the MPCed materials. It was found that effective properties of high strength and full density maintaining nanoscal microstructure were achieved. finally, optimization of the compaction parameters and sintering conditions could lead to the good consolidation of powders (metal, ceramic, nano-powder) with higher density, and even further enhanced mechanical properties.

Characteristics of Large Green and Sintered Alumina Ceramics by Filter Pressing (필터 프레싱으로 제조한 대형 알루미나 세라믹스 성형체 및 소결체의 특성)

  • The size of various alumina ceramics used in semiconductor and display industry is also required to increase with increase in wafer and panel size. In this research, large alumina ceramics was fabricated by filter pressing of alumina slurry using commercial powder and thereafter sintering at $1600^{\circ}C$ in gas furnace. The characteristics of large alumina ceramics thereby were compared to those of small alumina ceramics prepared by pressure forming such as uniaxial pressing and CIP. Careful control of properties of alumina slurry and filter pressing made the fabrication of large alumina ceramics possible, and its characteristics were equivalent to those of small alumina ceramics. The large alumina ceramics, prepared by sintering the green body of 63% relative density at $1600^{\circ}C$, exhibited both dense microstructure corresponding to 98.5% of relative density and 99.8% of high purity as in starting powder.

Effect of NiO on Microstructure and Properties of PMN-PT-BT Ceramics Prepared by Mixed Oxide Method

  • Effects of NiO were studied in aspects of dielectric properties and microstructure of $0.96(0.91Pb(Mg_{1/3}Nb_{2/3})O_3-0.09PbTiO_3)­0.04BaTiO_3$ (PMN-PT-BT, PBT). The PBT was prepared by a conventional mixed oxide method using $(MgCO_3)_4{\cdot}Mg(OH)_2$ instead of MgO through Lewis acid-base interaction. NiO was added in the range of 0.5 to $3.0\;wt\%$ as thermally decomposable $2NiCO_3{\cdot}3Ni(OH)_2$ and it seemed to enhance densification to a large extent below $1000^{\circ}C$. But all the systems gave rise to ceramics with almost same relative sintered density of 96% by sintering at $1000^{\circ}C$ for 2 h. But it turned out that the addition of NiO was detrimental to dielectric constant but beneficial to the loss of dielectric constant.

  • NiO/YSZ(70 wt%NiO) composite powders were prepared by ball-milling of 8YSZ and NiO precursors, dried and then followed by calcination. The approach was to combine acidic $Ni(NO_3)_2{\cdot}6H_2O$ and basic $2NiCO_3{\cdot}3Ni(OH)_2{\cdot}4H_2O$ via acid-base reaction as a mixed NiO precursor. Their effects were studied in the aspects of DSC, microstructure, porosity, and electrical conductivity. Ni/YSZ composite of 1N9C (1 mole NiO from the nitrate and 9 moles of NiO from the carbonate) was prepared by consolidation at $1400^{\circ}C$ for 3 h, and then followed by reduction at $1000^{\circ}C$ for 3 h under flowing of 6% $H_2/N_2$. It showed a homogeneous microstructure with ${\sim}20%$ porosity and 1880 S/cm at $1000^{\circ}C$.

  • Microstructure and electrical properties of ZnO-doped (0-5 mol%) 0.05 Pb(Mn1/3Sb2/3)O3-0.95 PZT ceramics were investigated. Sintering temperature was decreased to 100$0^{\circ}C$ due to eutetic reaction between PbO and ZnO. Grain-size increased up to adding 1mol% ZnO and then decreased. Compositions of grain and grain-boundary were investigated by WDS. Lattice parameter was decreased with ZnO addition. Density increased with ZnO addition and reached to the maximum of 7.84(g/cm2) at 2 mol% ZnO. The effect of ZnO on electrical properties of PMS-PZT was investigated. At 3mol% ZnO addition electromechanical coupling factor(kp) was about 50% and relative dielectric constant($\varepsilon$33/$\varepsilon$0) was 997 Mechanical quality factor(Qm) decreased with ZnO addition. Lattice parameters and tetragonality(c/a) were measured to investigate relationship between the electric properties and substitution of Zn2+. At 3 mol% ZnO tetragonality was maximiged at c/a=1.0035 Curie temperature (Tc) decreased slightly with ZnO addition.

Influence of PVP Content and Drying Condition on Microstructure of SrZrO3 Thin Films (SrZrO3 박막 미세조직에 미치는 PVP 결합제 첨가량 및 건조조건 영향)

  • SrZrO$_3$ resistive oxides on Ag tapes were prepared by the sol-gel and dip coating method to investigate the effect of PVP content and drying condition on microstructure of the films. Although the film thickness increased with the addition of PVP, the amount of PVP and heat treatment were not effective to reduction of formation of microcracks at the films. However, lower drying temperature and longer drying time were beneficial to control the microcracks of the SrZrO$_3$ films, indicating that the microcracking of the films was governed primarily by the drying condition.

  • The microstructure, electrical and dielectric characteristics of ZnO varistors were investigated at various metal oxide (NiO, MgO, and Cr$_2$O$_3$) additives. The average grain size was increased with addition of NiO while that was decreased with addition of Cr$_2$O$_3$-Thereby, the varistor voltage was higher in Cr$_2$O$_3$-added composition. Among varistors, the varistor added with Cr$_2$O$_3$ exhibited the highest nonlinearity, with 40.5 in the nonlinear exponent and 2.7 ${\mu}$A in the leakage current and its dielectric dissipation factor was relatively low value of 0.0589.

Analysis of Element distribution and Degradation Characteristics in the grain boundary of ZnO Ceramic Varistors with EPMA (EPMA를 이용한 ZnO 세라믹 바리스터 입계의 원소분포와 열화특성 분석)

  • Element distribution analysis and degradation characteristics of the ZnO varistors fabricated at the ambient sintering-process is investigated in this study. ZnO varistors made of Matsuoka's composition were fabricated by standard ceramic techniques. The ambient sintering-process is performed at the special electrical-furnace which is equipped with the vacuum system. The Gases of injection at sintering- process were oxygen, air, nitrogen and argon respectively. Element and quantitative analysis in the microstructure of ZnO varistors made use of EPMA equipment. Degradation characteristics were showed by DC degradation tests at $115{\pm}2\;^{\circ}C$ for period up to 13 h. From above analysis, it is found that at the DC degradation test the ZnO varistor sintered in oxygen atmosphere showed the excellent prop properties among them and these results could be explain by element and quantitative analysis in ZnO microstructure.
