  • Ready mixed mortar has been originated from lime industry of Germany and is being used widely in the world at present. In recent years, the studies of mortar with new faculty have been progressed. In this study, we used elvan instead of using sand in order to make cement mortar and investigated characteristics of elvan and mortar that used elvan. The major compositions of elvan were $SiO_2$ and $Al_2O_3$. The crystal phases of elvan were composed of quartz and sillimanite. Elvan had a lot of pore and absorption ratio was 2.09%. The compressive strength of mortar that used elvan satisfied korean industrial standards under 1:3 (mixing ratio) and water retentivity increased according to increase of elvan contents. Far infrared radiation and deodorization ratio increased and thermal conductivity decreased according to increase of elvan contents.

  • CMP(Chemical Mechanical Polishing) Processes have been used to improve the planarization of the wafers in the semiconductor manufacturing industry. Polishing performance of CMP Process is determined by the chemical reaction of the liquid sol containing abrasive, pressure of the head portion and rotational speed of the polishing pad. However, frictional heat generated during the CMP process causes agglomeration of the particles and the liquidity degradation, resulting in a non-uniform of surface roughness and surface scratch. To overcome this chronic problem, herein, we introduced NaCl salt as an additive into silica sol for elimination the generation of frictional heat. The added NaCl reduced the zata potential of silica sol and increased the contact surface of silica particles onto the sapphire wafer, resulting in increase of the removal rate up to 17 %. Additionally, it seems that the silica particles adsorbed on the polishing pad decreased the contact area between the sapphire water and polishing pad, which suppressed the generation of frictional heat.

  • Recently, porous ceramic materials with anti-static performance are urgently needed for semiconductor and OLED/LCD display manufacturing industry. In this work, we fabricated porous titanium manganese oxide ceramics having the surface resistivity of $10^8-10^{10}$ ohm and enhanced mechanical strength by partial sintering method using nanosized titanium oxide. By addition of nano-sized titanium oxide in the matrix, neck formation between grains was strengthened, which remarkably increased flexural strength up to 170 MPa (@porosity: 15 %), 110 MPa (@porosity: 31 %), compared to 80 MPa (@porosity: 26 %) for pristine titanium manganese oxide ceramics. We evaluated the performances of our ceramics as air-floating module for OLED flexible display manufacturing devices.

  • 3D printers, which emerged in the late 20th century, have become a key part of the fourth industrial revolution in the 21st century. Although 3D printers, the key equipment of the maker movement and the starting point of the new cottage industry in the 21st century, still reveal the limitations of mass production with low output speed and limited filament materials, the use of 3D printers by ceramic craftsmen has recently increased exponentially. However, as part of a way to overcome the discord between craftsmanship and the new technology, which has been repeated over and over in the past in craft history, the study focused on the 'plaster mold casting' technique using 3D printers. Therefore, after analyzing casting techniques of Tony Hansen, Webe van Gansbeck, Jade Crompton, and Ryu Hee-do, the potters who actively developed gypsum techniques in the world's ceramic crafts field and applied them to their own designs, I tried to find the point of convergence between 3D printers and ceramic crafts by presenting examples of effective 3D modeling methods and optimal slip casting methods using 3D printers.

  • With the increasing attention to environmental pollution caused by particulate matter globally, the automotive industry has also become increasingly interested in particulate matter, especially particulate matter generated by automobile brake systems. Here, we designed a coating composition and analyzed its mechanical properties to reduce particulate matter generated by brake systems during braking of vehicles. We designed a composition to check the mechanical properties change by adding Cr3C2 and YSZ to the WC-Ni-Cr composite composition. Based on the designed composition, coating samples were manufactured, and the coating properties were analyzed by Vickers hardness and ball-on-disk tests. As a result of the experiments, we found that the hardness and friction coefficient of the coating increased as the amount of Cr3C2 added decreased. Furthermore, we found that the hardness of the coating layer decreased when YSZ was added at 20vol%, but the friction coefficient was higher than the composition with Cr3C2 addition.

  • Active belite cement clinkers were synthsized by using natural raw materials with borax and calcium phosphate ({{{{ {Ca }_{3 }( {PO}_{4}) }}2) In both case {{{{alpha ^、 {C }_{2 }S }} were formed but borax was more efficient. The cement syn-thesized with the addition of borax was hydrated with the addition of anhydrite(5 wt%) and slag(30wt%, 40wt% 50wt%) The addition of 50wt% slag with anhydrite was good for strength development in 7days and the compressive strength was developed to twice than no addition of slag at 28 days strength.

  • Intending to develop a new rubber curing process using only microwave, the both the characteristics of cure and the mechanical properties of rubbers for the tire tread, for which a green styrene-butadiene compounds had been cured with 2.45 GHz microwave, have been compared with those of the custom thermal cured rubber. The unintentional hot spot formation in the compound during the microwave curing has not found where the compound has a microwave absorbing ceramic powders in 4.18 weight percents and the supplying voltage has been adjusted to 90 volts. The new microwave process accomplished preheating to 418K in a quarter of the thermal cure time. The average tensile strength of the microwave-cured rubber indicating $190kg/cm^3$ was compatible to that of the thermal cure. In conclusion, the new microwave cure had approved to be applicable in a commercial plant.

  • Silicon-based non-oxide ceramic carbide fiber is one of the leading candidate ceramic materials for engineering applications because of its excellent mechanical properties at high temperature and good chemical resistance. In this study, polycarbosilane(PCS) and zirconium butoxide were used as a precursor to prepare polyzirconocarbosilane (PZC) fibers. A polymer solution was prepared by dissolving PCS in zirconium butoxide (50/50 wt%). This solution was heated at $250^{\circ}C$ in a nitrogen atmosphere for 2 hour with stirring, and then dried in a vacuum oven for 48 hour. PZC fibers were fabricated using an electrospinning technique. The fibers were irradiated with an electron beam to induce structural crosslinking. Crosslinked PZC fibers were heat treated at $1,300^{\circ}C$ in a nitrogen atmosphere. The microstructures of PZC fibers were examined by SEM. Chemical structures of PZC fibers were examined by FT-IR and XRD. Thermal stability of PZC fibers was investigated by TGA.
