A numerical study was conducted to improve the performance of an impeller of centrifugal compressor. Nine design variables were chosen with constraints. Only meridional contours and blade profile were adjusted. ANN (Artificial Neural Net) was adopted as a main optimization algorithm with PSO (Particle Swarm Optimization) in order to reduce the optimization time. At first, ANN was learned and trained with the design variable sets which were obtained using DOE (Design of Experiment). This ANN was continuously improved its accuracy for each generation of which population was one hundred. New design variable set in each generation was selected using a non-gradient based method of PSO in order to obtain the global optimized result. After $7^{th}$ generation, the prediction difference of efficiency and pressure ratio between ANN and CFD was less than 0.6%. From more than 1,200 design variable sets, a pareto of efficiency versus pressure ratio was obtained and an optimized result was selected based on the multi-objective function. On this optimized impeller, the efficiency and pressure ratio were improved by 1% and 9.3%, respectively.

For various angular velocities of crucible and crystal, the characteristics of melt flows, temperatures and concentrations of oxygen are numerically studied in the Czochralski furnace with a uniform axial magnetic field. Buoyancy effect due to the heating of crucible wall and thermocapillary effect due to the temperature gradient at the free surface, can be differentiably suppressed by the centrifugal forces due to the rotations of the crucible and crystal. The most important factor which yields the centrifugal forces is the rotation velocity of the crucible, that influences the fields of velocities, temperatures and concentrations. In the case that the crucible rotation velocity is not high, the rotations of the crystal gives rise to the centrifugal forces effectively.

The vacuum cleaner motor runs on very high speed for the suction power. Specially, the motive power is provided by the impeller being rotate on very high speed. And centrifugal fan consists of the impeller, the diffuser, and the circular casing. Due to the high rotating speed or the impeller and small gap distance between the impeller and diffuser, the centrifugal fan makes very high noise level at BPF and harmonic frequencies. In order to calculate the sound pressure of centrifugal fan, the unsteady flow data is needed. And Noise cause is dividing to fluid noise by exhaust flow of fan and vibration noise by rotational vibration of vacuum cleaner fan motor. Until now, measuring method has been used to measure vibration by the accelerometer; this method has been not measured for the vibration in some parts of brush and commutator because of motor construction and 3-D vibrating mode. This paper was purposed on the accurate analysis, using laser vibration analyzer,. By using this measured data of noise cause against the difficult part in old times, we would like to use for the design of silent fan motor.
Isothermal transformation behavior of a 10% Cr heat resistant steel fabricated by centrifugal casting process was investigated. Normalized specimen at $1100^{\circ}C$ for 1 hour was isothermally annealed at temperature range between $600^{\circ}C$ and $700^{\circ}C$ with various time. The annealed specimen had eutectoid structure which was generated along austenitic grain boundary during isothermal annealing. Areal fraction of eutectoid structure increased up to 25% after holding at $700^{\circ}C$ for 20 hours. It was observed that austenitic matrix was transformed to ferrite structure and fine $M_{23}C_6$ carbides with increase of annealing time. Time-temperature-transformation diagram of the centrifugally cast 10% Cr steel with 0.18 wt% C was plotted based on the results of isothermal transformation behavior.

The vacuum cleaner motor runs at very high speed for suction power. Specially, motor power is provided by the impeller being rotated at very high speed. The centrifugal fan consists of the impeller, the diffuser, and the circular casing. Due to the high rotating speed of the impeller and small gap distance between the impeller and the diffuser, the level of noise in the centrifugal fan is at BPF(Blade Passage Frequency) and its harmonic frequencies. In order to calculate the sound pressure of centrifugal fan, unsteady flow data are needed. The cause of noise is obtained by dividing the fluid noise by exhaust flow of fan and vibration noise by rotational vibration of vacuum cleaner fan motor. Until now, an accelerometer has been used to measure vibration. However, it can not measure vibration in some parts of brush and commutator because of motor construction and 3-D vibrating mode. This study was conducted to perform accurate analysis of vibration and aerodynamic sound for fan motor in a vacuum cleaner using a laser vibration analyzer. A silent fan motor can be designed using the data measured in this study.
Centrigugal fans are widely used due to their ability to achieve relatively high pressure ratios in a short axial distance compared to axial fans. Because of their widespread use, the noise generated by these machines causes one of serious problems. In general, centrigugal fan noise is often dominated by tones at BPF(blade passage frequency) and its higher harmonics. This is a consequence of the strong interaction between the periodic flow discharged radially from the impeller and the stator blades or the cutoff. But in vacuum cleaner fan the noise is dominated by not only the discrete tones of BPF but also broadband frequencies. In this study we investigate the mechanism of broadband noise and predict for the unsteady flow field and the acoustic pressure field associated with the centrifugal fan. DVM(discrete vortex method) is used to calculates the flow field and the Lowson's method is used to predict the acoustic pressures. From the results we find that the broadband noise of a circular casing centrifugal fan is due to the unsteady force fluctuation around the impeller blades related to the vortex shedding. The unsteady forces associated with the shed vortices at impeller and related to the interactions to the diffuser and the exit.

A numerical study is presented for analysis of three-dimensional incompressible turbulent flows in a multi-blade centrifugal fan. Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes equations with a standard $k-{\espilon}$ turbulence model are discretized with finite volume approximations. The computational area is divided into three blocks; inlet core, impeller and scroll parts, which are linked by a multi-block method. The flow inside of the fan is regarded as steady flow, and the mathematical models for the impeller forces were established from a cascade theory and measured data. Empirical coefficients are obtained comparing between computational and experimental results for the case without scroll, and are employed to simulate the flow through the impeller with scroll. In comparisons with experimental data, the validity of the mathematical models for the impeller forces was examined. The characteristics of the flow in the scroll were also discussed.
The performance of a centrifugal compressor composed of an impeller, tandem diffuser rows and axial guide vanes has been predicted numerically and compared with available experimental results on its design rotational speed. The pitchwise-averaged mixing plane method was employed for the boundaries between rotor and stator to obtain steady state solutions. The overall characteristics showed difference according to the relative positions of tandem diffuser rows while the characteristics of impeller showed almost identical result. The numerical results agree with the measured data in respect of their tendency. It turned out that $0\%$ of relative positions is the worst case in terms of static pressure recovery and efficiency. According to the experimental results, some pressure fluctuations and malfunction of the compressor were observed for $75\%$ case. However, this numerical calculation using mixing plane method did not capture any of those phenomena. Thus, unsteady flow calculation should be performed to investigate the stability of the compressor caused by different diffuser configuration.
In this paper, we identify the noise source and the path of a chiller. This chiller is newly developed for R-l34a refrigerant and 250 RT cooling capacity. The measured overall SPL of the developed turbo-chiller is about 100 dBA. Due to the high rotating speed of the centrifugal impeller, the nun noise source of the chiller is the blade passing frequency and its higher harmonics of the centrifugal impeller. This generated soundpropagates through the duct, and then transmits and radiates to the outer field. From the experiment, it is found that the high frequency noise is mostlytransmitted and radiated through the elbow duct, but the low frequency noise is transmitted and vadiated through the condenser wall. Therefore applying the absorbing material is an effective way of reducing the high and low frequency noise simultaneously. Measurement results show that the application of the sound absorbing material to the elbow duct reduced the overall sound pressure level by 4 dB compared to the 9 dBA reduction for the case of full enclosure. In order to control the generated noise, a dissipativetype silencer is also designed and tested. The silencer reduced the radiated noise about 7.5 dBA.

Earthquake load to design a structure has been calculated from a fixed base SDOF model using amplified surface accelerations along soft soil layers. But the method dose not consider a soil-structure interaction. Centrifugal experiments that were consisted of soil, a shallow foundation and a structure were performed to find the effects of soil-structure interaction. The experiments showed that mass and stiffness of the foundation affected a response of the structure and nonlinear behavior of soil near the foundation. And a rocking displacement caused by overturning moment affected the response and increases a damping effect. In this study, the centrifugal experiment was simulated as a two dimensional finite element model. The finite element model was used for nonlinear time domain analysis of the OpenSees program. The numerical model accurately evaluated the behaviors of soil and the foundation, but the rocking effect and the behavior of structure were not described.
