도로곡선반경에 따른 가변전광표지의 교통안전효과 분석 (An Analysis of Safety Impacts of Variable Message Signage as Functions of Road Curve Radius)

  • PURPOSES: The purpose of this study is to estimate the impact of variable message signage (VMS) on traffic safety as a function of road curve radius using statistical methods. METHODS: In order to analyze the impact of VMS installations on traffic safety, travel speed, lateral distance, and geometric data relating to road curvature in each study area was acquired and analyzed for the impact of providing VMS information on driver performance and traffic safety using statistical methods including student t-test, Mann-Whitney test, and the Anderson-Darling test for estimating traffic safety hazard zone in each lane. RESULTS: As a result of analyzing driver performance characteristics before and after providing VMS information, it was determined that by providing VMS information, mean travel speed is deceased and vehicles are driven with increased precision, following the centerline in the first and second lanes. Also the results of analyzing traffic safety impacts of VMS indicate that traffic safety performance factors in the first lane of the Gapyeong section can, on average, increase in the left and right side of the lane by 19.22% and 68.98%, respectively, and in the case of the second lane, safety impacts, on average, can increase in both sides by 100%. For the Hongcheon section, traffic safety impacts in the first lane, on average, can increase along the left and right sides of the lane by 32.31% and 47.18%, and within the second lane, traffic safety can be increased along the left and right side of the lane by 10.97% and -0.01%, respectively. CONCLUSIONS: Based on the results of this study, the impact on traffic safety obtained by providing VMS information for road sections with smaller curve radii is greater than can be obtained for road sections with larger curve radii.

환경하중에 의한 장스팬 콘크리트 포장 슬래브의 컬링 거동 특성 분석 (Curling Behavior of Long-Span Concrete Pavement Slab under Environmental Loads)

  • 본 연구는 장스팬 콘크리트 포장 슬래브가 환경하중을 받아 컬링 거동을 할 때의 특성을 분석하기 위하여 수행되었다. 먼저 장스팬 포장 슬래브의 유한요소해석 모델을 구성하여 컬링 시 응력분포 특성 및 슬래브 길이, 두께, 하부지지층 강성, 슬래브 단부 구속 등이 컬링 거동에 미치는 영향을 분석하였다. 또한 실제 시공된 장스팬 포장 슬래브를 이용하여 현장에서 환경하중에 의한 거동을 측정함으로써 컬링 거동 특성을 실험적으로도 분석하였다. 연구 결과, 장스팬 포장 슬래브는 단부에서 부터 슬래브 중앙을 따라 어느 정도 안쪽으로 들어오면 컬링에 의한 수직변위가 발생하지 않으며 응력은 이곳에서부터 일정하게 최대치를 보이게 된다. 장스팬 포장 슬래브의 길이 및 하부지지층의 강성은 최대 컬링 응력에 영향을 미치지 않았으며, 슬래브 단부의 구속은 컬링 응력이 단부까지 발생하게 하지만 최대 컬링 응력의 크기에는 거의 영향을 미치지 않았다.

Vision-based Real-time Lane Detection and Tracking for Mobile Robots in a Constrained Track Environment

  • 실생활에서의 모바일 로봇 응용이 증가하면서 저비용의 자율 주행 기능이 요구되고 있다. 본 논문은 모바일 로봇의 실내 주행 여건을 고려한 제한된 트랙을 가정하고, 제한된 트랙에서 모바일 로봇의 자율 주행을 지원하는 비젼 기반 실시간 차선 검출 및 추적 시스템을 제안한다. 다양한 형태의 차선 처리와 동작 파리미터의 사전 조정 등을 고려하여 다중 동작 모드를 가진 시스템 구조와 상태 기계를 설계하였으며, 파라미터 조정 모드에서 차선 두께의 기하학적 특성을 바탕으로 컬러 필터의 임계값을 동적으로 조정하고, 곡선 트랙의 불안정 입력 모드와 직선 트랙의 안정 입력 모드에서 차선의 기하학적 그리고 시간적 특성을 바탕으로 차선 특징 픽셀을 적응적으로 추출하고 최소제곱법으로 차선 모형을 추정한다. 추정된 차선 모형으로 트랙 중앙선을 산출하고 움직임 모형을 단순화시켜 선형 칼만 필터를 통해 추적한다. 주행 실험에서 저성능의 로봇 구성에서도 실시간 처리를 통해 제한된 트랙에서 정상적으로 자율 주행이 이루어짐을 확인하였다.

굽은 형상을 가지는 라이저 주위 유동 특성에 관한 연구 (Numerical Study on Flow Characteristics Around Curved Riser)

  • The flow around a curved riser exposed to the current in various directions was investigated at a Reynolds number of 100 using a numerical simulation. The present study found that the flow features of the curved riser were distinct from those of a straight riser as a result of its large radius of curvature. Namely, there were various wake patterns according to the flow's incident angle. As the incident angle increased from $0^{\circ}$ to $90^{\circ}$, a two-row street of vortices that developed along the centerline of the curved riser became more apparent. However, when the incident angle approached $180^{\circ}$ from $90^{\circ}$, these vortices were completely suppressed by the interaction between the wake and an axial flow induced by the curvature of the riser. To identify this feature, the sectional force coefficients were also considered, and it was found that the force coefficients could be different from those found in a sectional analysis based on the strip theory when investigating vortex-induced vibration. As a result, this kind of study would be important to realistically estimate the riser VIV (vortex-induced vibration) and fatigue life, and a new force coefficient database that includes the three-dimensional effect should be established.

Estimation of drafts and metacentric heights of small fishing vessels according to loading conditions

  • A large percentage of maritime accidents in coastal seas are related to small fishing vessels. In order to investigate causes of maritime accidents, it is often necessary to carry out dynamic simulations for the estimation of trajectories and motions of vessels. Initial conditions of vessels such as main dimensions, loading conditions and hydrostatic properties are required for the accurate simulations. Small fishing vessels usually have few records of hydrostatic properties during their fishing operations. Therefore, in this study, estimation procedures for hydrostatic properties of small fishing vessels are proposed. At first, hull form characteristics of Korean small fishing vessels are investigated. Most of vessels have hard-chines and centerline skegs, they have similar hull forms. Bonjean curves of several small fishing vessels whose gross tonnages are below 10 tons are normalized with vessel breadths and depths. Representative bonjean curves are derived from normalized bonjean curves, and a representative hull plan is obtained as well. If the vessel loading conditions such as total weights and centers of gravity are given, fore and aft drafts can be calculated by using the representative bonjean curves with the constraint that weights and buoyancies are in equilibrium. Metacentric heights are also estimated by using the representative hull plan. Drafts and metacentric heights estimated by proposed iterative estimation procedures are compared with actual vessel data, estimated values are in good agreements with actual values. In addition, normalized fore and aft drafts, metacentric heights of vessels can be formulated as the linear functions of normalized total weights and centers of gravity. Empirical formulas of drafts and metacentric heights are proposed, and it is confirmed that the empirical formulas also provide reasonable results, which are similar to the results by iterative estimation procedures with representative bonjean curves and hull plan.

Neutronic design and evaluation of the solid microencapsulated fuel in LWR

  • Solid Microencapsulated Fuel (SMF) is a type of solid fuel rod design that disperses TRISO coated fuel particles directly into a kind of matrix. SMF is expected to provide improved performance because of the elimination of cladding tube and associated failure mechanisms. This study focused on the neutronics and some of the fuel cycle characteristics of SMF by using OpenMC. Two kinds of SMFs have been designed and evaluated - fuel particles dispersed into a silicon carbide matrix and fuel particles dispersed into a zirconium matrix. A 7×7 fuel assembly with increased rod diameter transformed from the standard NHR200-II 9×9 array was also introduced to increase the heavy metal inventory. A preliminary study of two kinds of burnable poisons (Erbia & Gadolinia) in two forms (BISO and QUADRISO particles) was also included. This study found that SMF requires about 12% enriched UN TRISO particles to match the cycle length of standard fuel when loaded in NHR200-II, which is about 7% for SMF with increased rod diameter. Feedback coefficients are less negative through the life of SMF than the reference. And it is estimated that the average center temperature of fuel kernel at fuel rod centerline is about 60 K below that of reference in this paper.

3D 가상착의를 활용한 40~50대 비만남성 피티드 토르소 패턴 개발 ( Developing a fitted torso pattern for obese males in their forties and fifties utilizing virtual fitting)

  • This study aims to develop a fitted torso pattern suitable for males in their forties and fifties who are obese-a group that accounts for more than fifty percent of men in this age group-using a 3D virtual fitting program. Size Korea's 2022 data for obese males in their forties and fifties is utilized for this study. In terms of the research method, a 3D program (CLO 3D) is used to implement the target group's various body types and to apply fitted torsos that enable verification and evaluation of the pattern's fit and ease. The characteristics of fitted torso patterns for obese bodies are as follows: the front centerline is a profile line; shoulder darts are added by reflecting waist-abdominal protrusion in the front panel; and shoulder, arm, waist, and center-back darts are constructed for the back panel. For obese bodies, the minimum circumference ease amounts should be approximately 6-7cm for the chest, 6cm for the waist, and 6-7cm for the hips. Based on an evaluation of the virtual fit of the developed fitted torso pattern, the data shows that a pattern (foundation) such as this is well suited for obese body types with an average of 4.67/5 points for reverse triangular obesity, an average of 6.67/7 points for log obesity, and an average of 6.69 points for the ease amount.

Investigation of three-dimensional deformation mechanisms of existing tunnels due to nearby basement excavation in soft clay

  • By conducting three-dimensional simulation with consideration of small-strain characteristics of soil stiffness, the effects of excavation geometry and tunnel cover to diameter ratio on deformation mechanisms of an existing tunnel located either at a side of basement or directly underneath the basement were systematically studied. Field measurements were used to verify the numerical model and model parameters. For basement excavated at a side of an existing tunnel, the maximum settlement and horizontal displacement of the tunnel are always observed at the tunnel springline closer to basement and tunnel crown, respectively, regardless of basement geometry. By increasing basement length and width by five times, the maximum movements of tunnel located at the side of basement and directly underneath the basement increase by 450% and 186%, respectively. Obviously, tunnel movements are more sensitive to basement length rather than basement width. For basement excavated at a side of an existing tunnel, tunnel movements at basement centerline become stable when basement length reaches 10 He (i.e., final excavation depth). Moreover, tunnel heaves due to overlying basement excavation become stable when the normalized basement length (L/He) is larger than 8.0. As tunnel cover to diameter ratio varies from 2.5 to 3.0, the maximum heave and tensile strain of tunnel due to overlying basement excavation decrease by up to 41.0% and 44.5%, respectively. If basement length is less than 8 He, the assumption of plane strain condition of basement-tunnel interaction grossly overestimates tunnel movements, and ignores tensile strain of tunnel along its longitudinal direction. Thus, three-dimensional numerical analyses are required to obtain a reasonable estimation of tunnel responses due to adjacent and overlying basement excavations in clay.

충적하천(沖積河川)의 수로양상(水路樣相)에 따른 유사(流砂) 및 흐름특성(特性) (Characteristics of Sediment and Flow with Channel Patterns in Alluvial Rivers)

  • 본 논문은 충적하천에서 수로의 양상조건에 따른 유사 및 흐름특성을 해석함으로써 수로의 변이를 예측할 수 있는 수치모형을 개발하기 위한 연구이다. 하천의 흐름은 하상 및 제방재료 특성과의 상호작용에 의해 복잡한 관계를 이루면서 수로변이를 통하여 형태학적으로 안정적인 형상을 유지하고 흐르기 때문에 대부분의 경우 직선형수로는 드물고 사행 또는 망류상을 이루고 있다. 본 연구에서는 수로변이를 모의할 수 있는 모형을 개발하기 위해 수로중심선 곡률반경 $r_c$값의 양과 음의 부호수에 따라 수로를 구분 즉, $r_c$의 양 또는 음의 값이 하나 만으로 이루어진 단만곡수로(single-bend channel)와 양과 음이 둘 이상의 값을 갖는 복만곡수로(multi-bend channel)로 구분하여 이들 수로에서의 편수위상승, 나선운동, 하상 및 수심평균유속의 불규칙 현상의 영향에 의한 유사이동과 흐름특성을 해석한다. 단만곡수로는 타 _모형의 실험자료와 복만곡수로는 금강의 매포수위관측소를 시점으로하는 연구구간에서 실측치 현장자료와 비교분석함으로써 본 모형의 적용성을 검증하였으며, 그 결과는 대체로 잘 일치하는 것으로 나타났다.

화염법으로 제조된 감마-Al2O3 나노입자의 화염조건에 따른 입자특성 연구 (Particle Characteristics of Flame-Synthesized γ-Al2O3 Nanoparticles)

  • 본 논문은 수소를 연료로 하는 확산화염을 이용하여 알루미나 나노입자를 합성할 때, 합성되는 알루미나 나노입자의 특성에 미치는 화염온도의 영향을 조사하였다. 합성된 나노입자의 특성을 전자현미경 이미지, 결정구조 분석, 비표면적과 기공의 크기 분석, 화염온도 측정 등의 여러 특성분석 방법으로 조사하였다. 사용된 화염의 중심축 최고온도는 산화제의 산소농도가 19, 21, 30, 47%인 각각의 실험조건에서 1507.8K, 1593.8K, 1753.1K, 1998.7K으로 측정되었다. SEM 이미지 분석 및 BET 비표면적 측정을 통해서는 47% 산소농도인 경우에는 50 nm 수준의 독립적인 구형입자가 생성되었음을 확인할 수 있었으며, 19%와 21%의 경우에는 응집된 상태의 20-30 nm 수준의 입자를 볼 수 있었다. XRD 결과에서는 감마(${\gamma}$)-알루미나가 주를 이루는 것으로 판단되었다. 이상의 결과를 바탕으로 촉매 담체로 사용하기 위한 알루미나 나노입자를 연소합성 하기 위한 가장 적절한 조건으로 실험했던 네 경우 중에서는 산화제의 산소농도가 21%인 두 번째 경우를 선택할 수 있었다.
